Six Flags Over Georgia announces Dare Devil Dive roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Dare Devil Dive's mission begins as you're pulled straight up to the sky on a special vertical chain lift, then slowly roll to the top of the tower nearly 100-feet in the air. After an agonizing pause at the crest of the summit, you plummet downward at an angle that is beyond straight down — it actually angles inward at a blistering 52 mph.

The capacity will be fine. Maybe not for the first year but lines will even out.

it's a good addition and will complement the parks coaster and ride selection. The park dose need flat ride, especially in the thrill ride level but hopefully we will see them soon.

A "PAUSE" element? Oh la la! Now that's unprecedented! ;)

Except for the fact that Mystery Mine features a pause element right before its beyond vertical drop. ;)

Oh NOOOO!! Six Flags is going to have to change their stats again! :) I mean ;). lol

"SFOG Facebook: Sorry about that. Again. It's the country's first beyond vertical coaster with a PAUSE element. Before the first vertical drop. That isn't inside a building. And doesn't have a little twisty part on the way down. We're updating our materials to avoid any further confusion. Again. Thanks."

"Georgia's first EuroFighter." :)

Excellent! Gator should work for SF's marketing team!

^I do it right the first time so I don't have to make copy edits. ;)

Well, and now I have to make an edit... ;)

"First lap-bar EuroFighter"! Yes, you read that right...

Kick booty! ;)

This is GREAT news. I haven't cared for the Eurofighters due to the OTSRs so far... so I'm very happy to hear this.

Have you ridden a Eurofighter? Just curious, because I want to know what makes their OTSR's so bad.

Because OTSRs are inherently evil.

Are you new around here? :)

SAW: The Ride is hampered by the OTSRs, the second half of the course is pretty fast and twisted. The elements are taken pretty sharply and that can lead to some head banging.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I've been on the Spongebob, and I really liked it. I didn't find the restraints to be an issue, just some thrashing about in the quick transitions.

^ Yeah, I've only found that on Saw. Speed & Rage were fine.

Wicked at Lagoon is 90-degrees with a lapbar, I imagine it won't be too much different.

Saw was even worse in the front seat than it was in the back, that was totally weird. Honestly, the OTSRs do tend to bang a little (I thought Rage had a jerky turnaround section where I got popped a little) - Speed was just awesomeness, but there was better product....but they're nowhere near as bad as they are on say an Arrow megalooper, or any of the "comapct" SLCs.

Hard to believe I still haven't been on Mystery Mine...some day, LOL.

Mystery Mine's first segment, if you happen to be in the far left seat is close to torture. There are a couple of sudden jerks that can really send your head flying into the OTSR. That said, in any other seat I did not have a problem and its glorious second half makes up for it.

I honestly don't think I could ride a coaster with a vertical lift that didn't have OTSRs. Anyone who has ever ridden one with me knows I cling pretty tightly to those buggers on the way up. Yikes.

Why, Carrie? I've never done a vertical lift so I really don't understand. Do you feel like you're going to tumble upside-down and backwards out of the seat, or what?

Well, the easy answer is that it's because I'm a big chicken. :) But yeah, I get the sensation that I will fall backwards right out of the seat. I literally hug the restraints with ridiculous might. Not my favorite experience.

Haven't been on Fahrenheit, but have you ridden a Toboggan? Vertical lift inside a a claustrophobic car inside a claustrophobic tube. Fun stuff.
