Beast Unsafe?

I know after all of the talk about coasters being unsafe that this is probably the last thing you wanna here. But yesterday 6/8 while I was entering the helix on the Beast my hand actually hit the wood on the track above me, I really don't know how I escaped without being hurt that much (just some swelling), but I am considering myself to be very lucky. Also, one of my friends on the train before mine hit their wrist and it looked really bad. Has this happened to anyone else and do you think that PKI should do something about it ?

Have you considered keeping your hands inside the car? That's where they're supposed to be.

Really. I am tall for my age (6`5 and 16) and I instinctively duck every time I go into the tunnel. I never put my hands up on that ride for that purpose. And I will never again ride Reptar due to me being 1 inch above the height limit and I felt like every turn my feet were about to be cut off.

I am 5'10 and have never had that happen to me before, I know it's close but I thought it was just an illusion to scare you. I thought keep hands inside car at all times meant not to reach out the side of the car.

All those signs about keeping your hands and feet in the car aren't for decoration. A lot of older coasters don't have a lot of extra clearance, so keep your hands in when going into tunnels or low clearances...

Its pure stupidity to put your arms straight up. Safety first...

Last year, I had my hand up and did hit the side of the tunnel. It hurt, and I didnt have my hands up very high. From now on, I keep my hands down and inside the car at all times on the last half of the ride. There is a reason why they have a recording on the lifts saying "Keep your hands down and inside the car at all times. Thank You!"

The main reason you're supposed to keep your hands down is being there are extreme lats and whiplash in the helix and throught the tunnel. And a good reason to keep your hands down is the low clearance as well. It's common sense. There's a sign. If it said "Do not stand up". Would you stand up? It serves a purpose. It sounds like you just didn't know the full meaning of the sign Matt, but beware next time. I've never tried to raise them there or probobly ever will. :(

When i went on that ride in 99' we were entering the helix and my 9 year old brother which was who i was next to had his hands up, so the worrier that i am i told him to keep his hands down because it did look like the tunnel on the helix was low . but wow ! good thing i told him to keep his hands down he could've gotten hit.
But could you imagine if MF's tunnel was that low , Hit your hand on a steel tunnel at about 90 MPH ! ouch !

You notice that all the accidents are peoples own fault. I know it's fun to put your hands up. OMG, the Beast it amazing. I went there last year and it was the greatest ride i had/will ever go on. A LITTLE WORD OF ADVISE: "Keep your hands inside of the car". I hate when people are dumb and they go and Sue the park for a problem they created. It's your own fault. So, Deal with it, don't ruin the fun.

But the fact is that the ride should be deesigned to have enough clearance to allow for people to put their hands up. Its just common sense for THE PARK. people put their hands up, and the parks and designers have to compensate for that.

and yes, YOU CAN touch the sides of the tunnels on the Beast. i am only 5'9" and i can do it very easily.

Although a cool effect, tunnels on coasters always make me a little nervous when I have my hands up. I usually always lower them when going through a tunnel or within a rides structure. The Viper at SFGAm with those headchoppers has me putting my hands up and down about 5 times. Having long arms adds to that fear!!!!

I bet you are the kind of person who would stand up on a rollercoaster if you could. I am really upset you did not lose your hand considering you've lost 95% of your brain cells. By the way PKI has already done something called a lift spiel that says: "CAUTION KEEP YOUR HANDS DOWN AND INSIDE THE CAR". If you are going to post something at least make it SOUND intelligent

Well, when it should be common sense to follow a rule, it's the person's fault if they want to break their hand or whip their back or shoulder out of place. It's a rule the park has to keep he ride with probobly the best and scariest coaster finale anywhere as great as possible. This is one of the few coasters that I'm actually afraid to ride, because of the helix. The headchoppers strike fear in almost anyone that rides(especially 6'1" me). You do want to keep that great effect, right ravenguy? And about designing the ride to put hands up. Maybe PKI should have designed better queue's to make line jumping easier? Both are park rules they expect to be followed. If you don't want to follow, get hurt or get ejected from the park. Whatever floats your boat.

the best head/hand chopper is on the GEMINI, but not the first drop, it's on the 3rd or 4th that is the best head chopper ever. Totally suprising. it looks so close, but there is really like 20ft clearence.

Koaster King:

1. People put their hands up on rollercoasters.
It is a common practice all over the world.

2. Coasters should be designed to allow this, considering that it is common practice.

3. I don't think that the tunnels on the Beast should be made larger, because apparently PKI hasn't had any problems with them, or too many complaints about it. Actually, i bet PKI HAS had complaints about it, but not enough to justify a modification.

4. I find it humorous that you find the Beast "scary."

So you guys are trying to say that its our fault for them building the tunnel that small. Also if we have to keep our hands in the car, below the seat level, what about our heads? Another thing, don't the parks think about stupid people? Finally, if someone tell you not to look at something what is you first instinct, You Look.

Don't get mad at me for saying those things, I think the beast has one of the best endings ever. I mean what other coaster makes you think that you could lose a limb and it literally could happen. That my friend is true fear.

Speaking of stupid people. When I rode the Beast I was near the back and I saw this guy who must of left a lot of room in the bar. It looked as if he was sitting on his knees, I say this because his shouders were level with the headrest. To make it worse he had his hands up.

Think about it. If PKI raised the clearence on the helix, how would they do it? You have the second part of the helix right above your head. If they did redo it, then it would take too much money. I think thats why they havent tunneled the entire helix
