Rollercoaster Tycoon riding to the screen for Sony Pictures Animation

Sony Pictures Animation has pre-emptively picked up rights to the Atari video game “Rollercoaster Tycoon.” Harald Zwart is spearheading the development of the big-screen adaptation as a possible directing project and will executive produce. David Ronn and Jay Scherick, who penned the upcoming Kevin James comedy “The Zookeeper,” are attached to write what will be a live-action/CGI hybrid.

There is absolutely zero story line in the game and there aren't any recognizable characters. How exactly does this lead to making a profitable movie? Now I'm waiting for SimCity to make it to the big screen.

It's just one of the many stupid ideas of toy "franchises" that are being developed for the big screen. Some properties include Stretch Armstrong, Monopoly, and Magic 8 Ball.

But as a coaster enthusiast, and a fan of the game, I hope that it will bring about another RCT game!

I personally cant wait for the scene involving guests going to a fiery doom when the breaks malfunction in the station after colliding at 15mph.

Or the scene where an evil gigantic white arrow grabs a guest who is tired/angry lifts him up by the shirt and drops him in the pond nearby. Then as he drowns to death the arrow pops the balloon he let go of to try and stay alive.

Coaster Number 1's station brakes fail and the trains explode due to Tom Arnold not being able to find the exit because it's not in his assigned work area.

The Whoa Belly (they gotta call it that) over shoots the top of the tower due to a vandal (Russel Crow) attack in which he ups the launch speed just a little too high. This movie could have a high body count. May be rated R

The carousel spins erratiacally when broken down. Agian Tom Arnold's fault.

Snow Cups Number 1 melts on a hot summer day.

Tom Sellek and the rest of the grounds keepers are all mowing grass in the top corner of the park and failing to clean up all the Paris Hilton accumulating outside of Scrambled Eggs Number 2. Why there are 2 Scrambled Eggs rides is a question that will be answered in the sequel.

Guests cannot find the 250 foot tall sky line dominating hyper coaster right next to the entrance/exit to the park which they also cannot find. They decide to knock off Lynsay Lohan's head to allieviate their frustration. Or maybe they just knock her head off becuase she's Lyndsay Lohan and everyone has always just wanted to knock off her head.

The terrorists who sabotaged Whoa Belly is killed by Security Gaurd 1, Bruce Willis who ends the movie with the immortal line, " Yippe Cay Ay Mother F**ker!' The movie is definately rated R

^ See, RCT is all what you make of it. Who was it said there was no story line?

edit: Sno Cups Number 1 wouldn't have melted if you had hired the Lemon Chill guy, you know...just sayin'.

Count me as not completely skeptical. I remember a few years ago, a certain studio decided to create an entire film based around a single theme park attraction.

Cut to five years later, where Pirates of the Caribbean 4 has reportedly been recently greenlighted.

It all depends on the script. I'm a professional screenwriter, and I could easily come up with 105 gripping pages about dog food if they paid me enough.

I'm guessing it'll be something about a boy (or girl) that dreams of the ultimate theme park, and finds a [insert magic portal, dream sequence, inheritance, other] and it becomes a thrilling reality! Add the school bully as the antagonist, and viola

Then again, I had the same first impression of PotC.

Im pretty sure that the likes of Johnny Depp and Gregory Rush will not be tied to RCT though. Until they are, or actors of that quality are, I wont be seeing this.
