Sony Pictures Animation has pre-emptively picked up rights to the Atari video game “Rollercoaster Tycoon.” Harald Zwart is spearheading the development of the big-screen adaptation as a possible directing project and will executive produce. David Ronn and Jay Scherick, who penned the upcoming Kevin James comedy “The Zookeeper,” are attached to write what will be a live-action/CGI hybrid.

Then again, I had the same first impression of PotC.
Not me. There is actually some entertaining IP there regardless of it being based on a ride. I mean, Pirates are cool, and it took Disney to finally come in and make a cool Pirate movie.
Rollercoaster Tycoon is fun as a game, but there isn't much IP there to make a story, IMO.
I thought Sony Pictures was just going to keep making Ice Age sequels for the rest of their existance.
PotC's original movie was potentially stolen from another film, which Disney has kept out of the public eye where it can. I haven't seen the movie in question, but the dates and timeline make for a surprisingly solid case against PotC. I didn't believe it at first, but the amount of possible proof is actually pretty high.
Still, we can only wait and see what comes up for the story for RCT.
It's going to be a ripoff of Tron. PC gamer, while playing the first RCT, somehow gets zapped into the amusement park world he has created and has to work all the jobs in the park. The film sequels will correspond with RCT2 and RCT3-with the third film being the biggest stinker to go along with how they destroyed a good game franchise.

Yep. Has anyone here ever watched a fantastic movie called"Adaptation"? Quite possibly one of the best screenplays of all time, imho.

^Great film, Adaptation. Almost as good as Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind : )
Charlie Kaufman is amazing. He's my personal idol.

as a coaster enthusiast, and a fan of the game, I hope that it will bring about another RCT game!
Yeah, because movie-tie in games always work so well... ;)

Hate to say it, but I had that impression of Avatar. I finally watched it yesterday, only to find that it is an incredible movie.
Personally I enjoyed Avatar the first time I saw it, when Kevin Costner was trying to be an Indian, and the second time I saw it, when Robin Williams was the voice of a schizophrenic due to experiments bat. After awhile the story just gets boring.
Repeating story aside, the sound and visuals are what made it for me.
I got to break in my new subwoofer with it :).
Rumor has it that Avatar will return to the big screen, again in 3-D, sometime this year, with some extended and deleted scenes added in. If this happens, I highly reccommend seeing this in 3-D, on the big screen. Nothing compares to it, moviewise anyways.

Yeah, I've heard August for the Avatar re-release. We've got the DVD (that someone loaned to us), but I just can't bring myself to sit through almost 3 hours of... anything, really. But I'll make it a point (this time) to see it in IMAX 3D.
