Why is Cedar Point such an amazing place?

While many people are indeed "discovering their gayness" at that age, I think it's safe to say that there's also a large number of people who are finding it "safe" to be open about their gayness for the first time. College, or just moving out of home (for the first time?), provides a really convenient place-time in life to reinvent yourself...

It was about that time that I discovered I wasn't gay.

I was not at Cedar Point, however.

Actually, there's quite a bit if you look harder. Downtown, there's the Carousel Museam, wineries out the wazoo (espeaclly Firelands) travel down to Milan and you have Thomas Edison birth place, Norwalk Dragway, Marblehead, bowling...

Yeah, those are all things the average 19-year-old with new found freedom is going to be in to.

Drinking and screwing... survey says?!

Although I really 'humbug' about Cedar Point (and I do have my reasons, which are valid to me) they do many things great. They have great operations - almost everything is run on schedule and everything is clean and maintained well. Don't wanna argue about Mean Streak and the newer coasters' problems - they pretty much consistently take above average care of things.

This is/was in comparison to Six Flags over the years of course. I haven't been to the Point since 2000, and have spent last summer damn near worshiping SF Great America (which is new for me after the place was so poorly run for sooo long...)

It has been a couple of years since I have been to Sandusky/Cp(2001 to be exact), but I remember there was a gay bar in downtown Sandusky proper. Right by the lake with views of the Cp Skyline. The bar (kinda)sucked, but the views were amazing.

I had a rough time at CP as it was in the middle of the summer and raining all day on and off, so had not to many rides and maybe I was let down by the "rave" reviews or awards the park was getting as "best in the World"(which it is not)

It is a "ok" park in my book, nowere "best ever", but certainly a park I would visit again

Actually, I was 24 (and a bit more mature than some) when I worked at CP. Plus that summer I went to Louie's EXACTLY ONCE! Most of my money got blown on gas (for my van) & side trips.

lol Hopman. I've been to Louie's three times, and that's with three seasons under my belt.

I think that the bar in downtown Sandusky was called Club X, when I worked there. They had a short bus that would pick up and drop off customers at off point housing.

I spent a lot of my money on trips too, but I never had the courage to drive all the way to SF in Chicago. I went to Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Hard Rock Cafe a lot, and Kings Island, and Geagua Lake/Six Flags Ohio, and Kennywood. My buddie and I even took a trip to Dorney once, and stopped off at my house in Altoona, PA.

If working at CP makes someone gay, then what does it do to people who are already gay? Does it make them straight? :p

Three words:

Triangular bunny hops.

For Rideman:

Circular bunny hops.

Give me a nice parabolic bunny hill over triangular any day.

Now, you should save up and come to Chicago for Great America ;) It's really much better these days, and you would have a reliable tour guide!

Yes, I remember the bar being called Club X for short or 'Excentricities'.

I don't think anything can make someone gay or more gay. I think the society we live in can make someone act more straight though, and think they are straight. Gay maybe 'in' but nobody really wants to be 'that way'.

CP was a great coming out place for me b/c it's the first place I hung out with people that were out and proud. So it made the waters a little more warm for a scared 18-20 year old.

And I had cool 'hetero' friends there as well. We would all hang together and go to each others' bars. Of course, there was still homophobia and mass amounts of heterosexism, but it was still a safe place in the early 90's.

SFGAm is one of the few SF parks that I would consider giving a shot. That one and SFoG. ...And yes, I would have to give in to my ego and get a Q-Bot if the park was too busy.

I just might have to take you up on that reliable tour guide offer, Billy.

^^You wouldn't need a qbot on the days I go... I rode Mindbender 25 times the last time I was at SFOG. And Great America is pretty awesome until school is out in June. Like ERT on most of the coasters (including the big B&M's which I don't care for, but that's how empty the place is).

^Hush!

Now that it's someone other than me saying it, maybe you'll believe it, LK. :)

You don't need a Q-Bot to make a day of it most of the time.

<--- still thinking the "accepted average" of 10-12% gay is NOT the same inside the enthusiast community....there are a variety of factors at play (income, education, thrillseking, travelling) that make me think the percentage of enthusiasts identifying as GLBT*** is probably about double that of the world at large. Just a friendly challenge to the claim that the gay-ness of enthusiasts is representative of that of the community of non-enthusiasts... :)

Well Gee, this is probably the gayest thread I have read in a while. In the words of Wendy williams, "how u doin'!" :).

When I think about how much I love Cedar Point, I always remember my first road trip in college (2000). Me and 5 of my friends drove from Buffalo to Sandusky one weekend. I was alseep in the back seat and I woke up as we were pulling up on the causeway. I was greeted by the most stunning sight. At the time I didnt even know about Millennium Force. I had chills for minutes!
