Six Flags Great Adventure announces El Toro for 2006

Tallest, Steepest, Fastest...finally sounds like we're gettin into competition here. Six Flags finally stepping up to the plate!

Pretty excited to see all these new woody's pushing the envelope, this one looks somewhat shorter than the voyage, or the new beach bend coaster, but will still pack quite the punch!

Well, at least Americans will finally get their chance to see if the Intamin milled track really does feel more like a steel coaster than a wood coaster. A lot of Europeans have complained about that with Colossos, especially the wood purists.

I can see that being an issue, simply going by what I know about Intamin's system. And while I am a purist that loves the look, feel and sound of a traditional wood coaster, I am really excited to see what Intamin brings to the table with their milled track. The park couldn't be a better fit- considering how they treat Rolling Thunder like a red-headed stepchild, a low-maintenance (as far as wood coasters go) coaster is clearly the obvious choice for them.

This is another great decision at Great Adventure. The park is getting a total facelift across the board. That ride was much needed for the guests who do not want to be looped. Mexican food is a winner. I just hope they build nice big restrooms in the area.

I am starting to think that in 2009 the park will look nothing like it did in 2004. Two years and Three rethemed areas. I kind of think they may take season away from rethemeing when the hotel opens but then in 2008 retheme another area with the next rumored coaster.

What's the third rethemed area?

Having ridden Balder, I can say you guys are in for a treat and a half in New Jersey. If you want airtime, you have now gotten it in spades. That first drop will rival every first drop on the planet because Balder's felt truly verticle. The smoothness of the ride is more of a non-factor than people think. It still feels like wood because guess what? IT IS! Granted, you don't get that tossed around feeling that most purists say that love, but in return you get some of the most powerful airtime this side of Expedition G-force.

Guess I'll have to plan another trip to New Jersey...

This "out-and-back hybrid" is the second tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the U.S. with the second longest drop. El Toro breaks the world record for steepest wooden coaster drop at 76 degrees.

Maybe they meant hybrid as in "out and back" and "twister".

Did you all notice the error in the long layout picture shot? Keep looking... YUP! That's right! There are TWO TRAINS running on Rolling Thunder! Now since when have you ever known Six Flags to run both sides of a racing coaster AT TTHE SAME TIME? ;)

I'm sure when SFMM announces their flyer next month, which interacts with the Skytower, they'll be pictures of the Skytower working as well. ;)

I did the POV video and while it looks fun, I came away from it going "that's it?". I think I have anticipointment, or maybe I'm just jaded after seeing how amazing The Voyage looks. I do think the bobsled-esque S curve section (say that 3 times fast) looks unique and could be a really fun part of it. It could use a tunnel or two. As far as the GP goes, I think they'll eat it up.

Yeah it looks sweet, espically that turnaround. But I don't want to go way out west. If I get a season pass to WOF, and go to Dorney Park I will go there.
