Six Flags Great Adventure announces El Toro for 2006

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Six Flags Great Adventure has announced El Toro for 2006. The out-and-back wood coaster will be 181 feet tall with a 176-foot drop and top speed of 70 mph.

Read the press release from Six Flags.

OMG, This thing is going to be a huge hit with the GP. That drop looks amazing! I can't wait till next year. Kinda Ka, Medusa, Nitro, Batman: The ride, Batman&Robin: The Chiller, Superman: Ulitmate Flight, & El Toro? What more could you ask for at a park located an hour from NYC!

Keep up the good job Six Flags. It's Playtime!

I havn't been to SFGAdv in about 2 years. In addition to the new coasters, I'm curious as to what areas they've transformed for the 3 rethemed areas. What were they before what they are now or will be next year? Just trying to figure out where everything is in the park and that map isn't helping me.

Looks cool.. I especially like the ground-hugging turns. That first drop is going to be a treat. :)
thrillerman1: You absolutely cannot judge a ride by its POV. Particularly any out-and-back sort of ride. They just don't look interesting, but they tend to ride very nicely.

It looks like a neat ride. I want to see how the trains work, though. :)

It should easily be the best coaster at the park.

Did you all notice the error in the long layout picture shot? Keep looking... YUP! That's right! There are TWO TRAINS running on Rolling Thunder! Now since when have you ever known Six Flags to run both sides of a racing coaster AT TTHE SAME TIME?

I hate to say this escher26, but the laugh is on you. Obviously you people know nothing about Great Adventure. 2005 was obviously their comeback. They cleaned, landscaped, and themed their park (parts of it). They gave some rides paint jobs and guess what? As of the 2005 season ROLLING THUNDER HAS BEEN RACING! It's been racing all season and they plan on keeping it that. Of course sometimes it wont race cuz one side will break down lol. But they dont treat RT like smack either. It will probably recieve a paint job very soon. Plaza del Carnaval will feature El Toro, Rolling Thunder, a Mexican eatery called La Cocina, and a family ride. It's small but every little thing counts. Now we're all hoping that Movie Town will recieve the next face lift. There's many improvements seen around GA so why dont you doubters take a look and see for yourselves at www.amusementpics.com?
/\ Didn't Great Adventure have Rolling Thunder painted just two seasons ago when Superman Ultimate Flight opened?
It is probably getting the new coat of paint just to make it look as new as the newly themed area it sits in.

Well if Rob isn't enough for you Moosh, there's always me! ;)
I'm more than enough for Moosh.
I love where there is a general announcement thread so that we can all come back together as ONE. . .put aside our differences on other issues of the day, and UNITE as one voice. For there is nothing that we can all be more cohesive on than when there is the announcement of a NEW RIDE. . .The excitement, the furor, the anticipation. . .

And to think that we can all share the same space in time. . .at our next ERT session. We can talk laterals, inversions, trick track, and ride times, with impunity. Some of us can even eat decadent and voluminous amounts of funnel cakes, deep-fried cheesecake and cheese-on-a-stick without having to worry about being judged unfairly by others. After all, we wrote the book on fanny packs. . .

But other temptations and joys await as well. . .

The bonding, the comraderie, the notion that maybe, just maybe, one day, I'll be able to get stapled in the back seat, maybe on EL TORO, perhaps while taking a VOYAGE, with the likes of Mamoosh, Tiggerman or Tekno.

I think that, despite our differences, we should all celebrate the joy, the exhiliration, the sheer sensationalism of being a. . .COASTERBUZZER. . .

But, seriously, folks, I'd like to think that this will usher in a whole new era of MONSTROUS WOODEN COASTERS. . .

It looks like it will be a corker of a ride to be sure!!!

Giant Wooden Behemoths. . .With Breath-Snarling First Drops. . .

EL TORO. . .THE BULL. . .TOO KEWL FOR SCHOOL. . .

This new wood is going to be, like, so wonkin' wooooody. . .

Just thinking aloud here....Cedar Point adds Dragster, SFGAdv steals record away.SFGAdv adds El Toro...perhaps that'll be a reason for Cedar Point to build a bigger woodie in 2007? And isn't that the year Kinzle retires?Hmmmmmm! ;)

edit to fix crappy spelling...thanks, Dannerman!

Moosh,

Although SFGAdv did steel the record from CP, I have to ask..

...wood Cedar Point want to tackle the record back, when the park needs more family-friendly attractions?

(sorry.. I'm a sucker for puns and there was no way I could resist :) )

You know, Brett, you could renounce that and just pick up the term Coaster Fanatic.
Yea, there'd still be a loose affiliation there though and I'd still be left thinking "dude, what the F*@#$*?!?".

Dude, we got a challenger to rollergator for most/best usage of puns in a single post! It's a battle royale! Not bad dannerman, a good piece of work.

Although, it won't happen, CP's seen what happened just down the road when you try and break records with a wooden coaster ... not saying they won't get one, just it won't break any major records (although being Cedar Point, they'll find some kooky off the wall record no one cares about [first double-twisting impulse anyone?] so they can market that angle still).

Looks to be anawesome addition to an already awesomepark.

Once I saw the name I was like sweeeeet. Six Flags needs to keep up the good naming of rides. Can't wait.

Has anyone seen or know what the logo will look like?
SFGadv didnt steal the record. So what, CP is the only park allowed to make record breakers? GA is Six Flag's best park by look, profit, etc. They may not have coasters like X but Kingda Ka, Medusa, Chiller, Nitro are all good rides. This is only their beginning. Give them a few good years and we'll see what other improvments and additions they make. Supposedly a Sky Swat from AstroWorld is coming to Gadv since that park is closing for good. They're not trying to be like CP. CP isnt the only coaster park. But they're combining a theme park with a coaster park which sets them slightly off from CP and a little off from BGW, IOA, or Disney.*** This post was edited by fr 9/30/2005 5:30:40 PM ***
