New Cedar Point ride causes frenzy on Internet

With 20 threads on GTTP and much frenzy, it must be hell to keep a lid on all of this. I commend the People Who Know.

I am sure this is all very exciting but I would still like to know what the season pass sales are looking like for next year. The buzz on the net is one thing but I wonder if it is translating to more interest from people's wallets.

Dern it - Playa, I was going to say it but I didn't want to get "banned" or have the jerk ray aimed at me. ;)

Even Cleveland's Fox 8 news ran a snippet of Cedar Point's construction this morning. Although there was no new information about the ride, they basically hinted at a very late announcement. However, they got some cool shots of the construction and the peices of track and supports in the parking lot.

I think that this basically indicates that the height is there... a 400' + coaster, but the length will be disappointingly short. As much as I thought that initial drawing that was on the 'buzz & GTTP gave an idea of the layout... I have a feeling that it's definately going to be no more than an oversized "X-celerator"... same basic layout, but just much larger...

...kind of ashame if it is, just because you'd really like to get a lot of use out of a train that's travelling at 100+ mph!!!

Essentially, it's gonna be Superman: The Escape, but full circuit instead of a shuttle (and with a real train, rather than single cars) aka a 400+ foot, but really short Intamin rocket coaster. Yes, there's still a lot of construction to do, but it still seems pretty obvious to me.

The dissapointment will last right up to the point at which you get to ride it.

Get over yourself Playa... as generally happens in newspapers, my quote was taken out of context. I told the reporter I knew but wouldn't get into specific stats out of respect for my relationship with the park. Same thing I've said here a thousand times. I also said that there was enough there that most people have it figured out.

I enjoyed reading that Xcelerator took 62 seconds to ride....man, I must have caught it on a particularly fast day...;)

Thats a long Xcelerator ride. Maybe it stops on the top hat for a while to let you enjoy the view, then slowly rolls down the other side. ;)

Right...anyway, about the S:TE thing, I have a feeling that it's not gonna be that. It's gotta be more like XCelerator.

I think it's great that it's being kept a secret. Keeping this coaster a secret is making it the most talked about for the 2003 season.

It's obviously an Intamin Rocket Coaster but I doubt it will break 400ft. I would say like 350 or something. No matter what, I'm sure it will be great.

Maybe it won't be 400'+ high. I think the yellow supports are there for the high winds.

With a pullout that large, I at least think it's safe to assume that it will be over 400 feet tall.

The much talked about dissapointment will also most likely be the fact that it's a short ride, maybe even the L-TH-B theory :(

But either way, this is going to be one awesome ride :)
