As Cedar Point's 2003 ride goes unannounced and crosses above the 200-foot threshold in construction, fan hype has dominated Internet fan sites with speculation and analysis of the construction progress.

Derrick Whitsett - I can't comment on Raptor...I haven't ridden it since 2001. The only "rough" moment I recall was the sudden bank-to-straight track leading into the final brake run.
As for CP's 2003 coaster it certainly possible it can be that height and speed...I guess we'll know as soon as the announcement is made.

Guess you have to hit Orochi (the Raptor clone) in Osaka, Japan. That thing is butter smooth, and intense as hell. The treat 'em right in Japan!

Well that moment I was referring to was hardly rough, it was merely the only moment I felt my head hitting the OSTR, but it certainly didn't hurt. But if Derrick rode on a train that was in need of maintenance I can see where he might have experienced a rougher ride.
Moosh - who will never ride Orochi unless Nasai pays for the trip!

Or perhaps they're waiting for IAAPA in mid-November to make the announcement in front of the entire Amusement industry? Makes sense to me!

I have a question:
If CP doesn't consider Superman a coaster, what is the difference between that and Wicked Twister? Which by the way is an excellent ride. Anyways if someone could clarify their stance on this then I would appreciate it very much.
Answer:
Use the search function for a dozen-to-half-million threads on the subject between September '01 and now.
Back to the....fun? (cringe)

A full circuit Superman? Say it aint so!
If this is a 400ft Xcellerator without the long twisting figure 8 track leading to the brake run, what fun is that?
If I have only one complaint about Xcellerator, its not long enough. Added Height, nice, but it really needs to be longer! I sure hope this isn't an up and down trip that would be sad.
-edit-
Oh and Legend? What fun would a 400ft xcelerator be if it didn't have the figure eight? Well, about the same, sincs, as I've been told... the overbanks, while graceful, have been perfectly designed to provide minimum force, so a ride without them wouldn't be missing them much. *** This post was edited by BBSpeed26 on 10/15/2002. ***

I'm betting on 270 degree vertical inline twists instead of the usual 90 found on Top Hats. Why do I say this? The twisted track in the carpark is well, very twisted!
Assuming Xcelerator has a constant launch from 0 to 82mph over 1.8 seconds, that is just over 2Gs. Lets say the new ride has the same rate of acceleration from 0 to 136mph, the time taken to do so is 3 seconds! This equates to a launch track length of 298ft compared to about 100ft for Xcelerator.
0 - 136mph in 3 secs over 298ft, that is insane!
The only thing is, in order for an object to drop from rest to hitting the ground at 136mph, it would need to be dropped from 619ft! Although that's just an operational margin, even if it's shorter than this at 426ft, the train still has to climb the pull-up, through the twist & over the top. That will kill a lot of speed. In fact, Xcelerator tested to 117mph! That means this ride may be tested to maybe 160mph!
Hmm, I'd better check with my physics book when I get home.
For those who are whingeing about the length, get over it! You'll be so thrilled from going over the biggest element in the world to care about the length. Like other said, the track would have to be very long to improve the ride time much. IMO it's a waste to put anything after the TH & would only detract it.
Oh, I wonder what wheels they will use & if they'll have huge diameters like on S:TE to cope with the incredible heat from friction at over 100mph.
We're both right. My point was that a lot of people don't consider S:TE a "real" coaster because it is not full circuit.
CP's 2003 coaster will be "like S:TE" in the sense that it will be approx. 400ft, really fast, launched, and likely just an "up and down" coaster.
Consider it a "2nd generation S:TE"...sorta...well, you get the idea. Anyway, it will definitely be a "real" coaster by everyone's standards, and the specs will be very similar to S:TE.

Now I don't know if YOU have been keeping *abreast* of the news, but you MAY be able to wait for Orochi to follow in Gambit's footsteps, and get to ride it here in the States when it comes in '05 to a smaller SF park as a *new to you* coaster! AstroWorld, perhaps....;)
That's too nice for Astroglide, gator.
chris, wondering if nasai counts M: TR on his track record. I know Bass probably does...
chris - Bass doesn't and Nasai refuses. Perhaps you'd like a ride?

And I always thought that song was a Devo original...;)
and I try, and I try, and I try, baby, try, try, try.....
And I was under the impression those guys were real 'credit whores.'
chris - Who has DEVO's greatest hits in my bag today. Weird.
