And we're absolutely sure it's not open to the public?
In regards to all of the anti-Steel Phantom sentiments...
I've been on the ride many times, and I honestly don't feel that it's a horrible ride or that it "deserves dynamite" or anything like that. It's one of my favorite coasters (#2 on my list), and I don't think it gets the respect it truly deserves.
For the past 9 years, this ride has been the king of thrillseekers who live around here. Towards the end of every school year, my high school has a Kennywood Day (as I'm sure most local school districts do). Like clockwork, around that time, people suddenly become grouped into one of two groups: The group who've been on SP, and the group who hasn't. It really is THE ride around here. We take pride in having it here.
The Steel Phantom really represents Western Pennsylvania in the perfect way. It's not the most beautiful, it's not the smoothest, it's not even the biggest anymore...
But it delivers, and that's all we around here really want.
