Big Dipper to Cedar Point?

I have the answer, Cedar Fair should use whatever rides aren't sold or given to other CF parks as the attractions for the long awaited boardwalk project. You could have big dipper, double loop, and Villian all in 1 area and call it the Lost Ohio Boardwalk...

...or just the Geauga Boardwalk, although those 3 coasters are a tad too many in a single space, especially the footprint it'd create.

Although 70% of the people wouldn't understand, Im sure most Ohians know what Geauga Lake is/was. Brand-name recognition.

Geauga Boardwalk doesn't sound like a bad idea.

It would be a great way to rebrand the park. Even if Cedar Fair had the guts, it could serve as a way to rebrand the company, by developing an entertainment center there, with a select few rides including the Big Dipper. Sort of a Kemah boardwalk. Retail, Restaurants, Rides, water.

Not only could they have the retail outlet on one side, but could also have a portal to Wildwater Kingdom to tie the two together. *** Edited 4/27/2008 11:34:59 AM UTC by Keith2005***

Maybe they could do it off the Marnina side of the peninsula...

Well, if they tied the two together, then that would be a whole park again, wouldn't it? I don't think that worked.

Build all you want on the Marina side. Who needs the parking lot anyway.

As much as I'd love to see Dipper at CP, I am reluctant to get my hopes up. I was sure I heard someone from CP once say they prefer steel over wood due to maintenance issues. Although they've done a bang up job with Blue Streak, Meanstreak is a far cry from what it was when it opened.

Adding a third wooden coaster that requires a lot of maintenance doesn't seem to be a CP thing.

Why does everyone think there is some type of "boardwalk" on the horizon?

Dipper isn't on the auction brochure anymore...

I never said there is, or will be. I said there should be. To be honest, a boardwalk seems like the best idea. And by boardwalk, I'm not talking typical California boardwalk with coasters and flats, I'm just saying save the Dipper, build shops and restaurants right on the lake front, and include a portal to Wildwater Kingdom.

Think of it as a Disney approach to how they tied Disneyland, Downtown Disney, and California's Adventure together. With the recent boom in retail in the area, I think it is a viable option. Is it an option that has been considered? I'm not so sure of that.

To clarify what Spun_Out said: here's the link to the color brochure for the Geauga Lake auction:

Like they said, Big Dipper is not mentioned at all anymore, so that would tend to make me think something actually is up with the ride.

I cross refrenced my lists with the auction brochure. As far as I can tell, the following would be a list of rides that have not already been relocated and are not for sale at the auction. It is possible things have been sold and removed and we just havn't heard about it.

Big Dipper
Beaver Land Mine Ride
Head Spin
Pirate's Flight
Black Squid
June Bug Jump
Tea Party
Star Castle Voyage
Thunder Alley Speedway
El Dorado
Americana
Merry Oldies
Carousel
Dodgems
Thriller Bees
Turbo Bungee

So from this I am guessing that the flats on the waterpark side are being sold as well, right?

I thought those were already offered on a ride brokerage site over the winter?

I've heard from another source that the Black Squid is being relocated to another park in the chain. Who owned Turbo Bungee? Was that a Geauga Lake ride, or was it a concession? With that in mind, who owns the Turbo Bungee now operating at Kings Island? Is that still a concession, or was it moved from Geauga Lake?

Yes

Many rides were listed and are still listed at Intermark Ride Group. Only some of those rides and some of the rides that were never listed are what is for sale at the Auction.

^^I was under the *impression* that the TurboBungy things were all concessionaire-owned - not unlike many other upcharges (except there's probably less training involved in terms of securing riders)...

gator, still wants El Dorado... :)

From PB, via "PhotoNick":

Could this rumor be put to rest?

http://www.nortonauctioneers.com/upcoming.htm : "1926 BIG DIPPER COASTER (not listed in brochure but will be selling at the auction on Tuesday)"

It looks like either Cedar Fair changed their minds (if the rumor ever had any merit) or the rumor is officially disproved.

That's some shoddy journalism. "Some people" have suggested? Who? And which shmucks don't want to be named? That's pretty cowardly. I have some 250 units, do I get a say in what to do with it?
