Big Dipper to Cedar Point?

Yes, I know Sandusky is a city. Now go read some Shakespeare and quit bothering me until you're a teeny bit educated.

If there is any truth to this rumor, the lack of BD on the auction list at some point probably had to do with leaving it onsite at GL and building a lifestyle center around the thing, not moving it to CP. I could see it operating around new restaurants and shops similar to Belmont Park's old prior & church coaster
Except Norton's website now states that it is on the auction list. If it was being withheld, it doesn't look like it now.

The fact that Dipper was left off the brochure may have just been a mistake. It was listed on the Original Flyer. They may still have options on the table for Dipper. They say in the flyer that the sale of the Dipper is subject to the Sellers approval of the Buyer. Who knows what that even means, but maybe if they're unhappy with the plans a buyer might have for Dipper, maybe there's a chance it will still be relocated, or perhaps there was already an offer made and it wasn't what Cedar Fair was hoping for. So, they'll wait and see if they get a better offer. This is all speculation of course.

^Agree completely - CF is probably *still* undecided about the eventual fate of Dipper.

But I will say this much - if the decision is affected in ANY way by what enthusiasts have to say, or information that is "leaked"....then CF is screwed up in a big way, and relocating a classic coaster is the LEAST of their concerns...

Oh look, you posted that within a minute of the last comment. "...Precious Ohio masterpiece of Engineering history..." Hahahahahahahah! Nice one. Yeah, masterpiece if you're about 5'3" and don't mind getting beat up a bit.

Considering the year BD was designed, I wouldn't think that description so far off.

Oh, and I'm 6'2" and only got beat up riding on the wheels toward the back of the train.

5' 9" here...never felt beat up on Big Dipper (but I sure did on Villain and Raging Wolf Bobs).
I thought the ride was rather smooth when I rode it at the final Coaster EXT last season... were you riding the same Dipper, Jeff?

^exactly, considering they didn't have computers or calculators for that matter in 1926, it's a well designed ride.

looks like this flyer can won't need updating afterall:

Villian should be moved to Dorney since their other Dinn is Done - or Valleyfair for that matter. Nice pic of the RWB in that flyer

^I've heard that it could possibly cost more to disassemble, transport and reassemble Villain than it would to just have GCI build a new one from scratch. It wasn't (IMHO) a very good ride anyway, though that could have been because of those blasted "G-trains"

SWOOSH -- MidwestInfoGuide.COM

That all depends how much it sells for and how far it would need to travel - which sucks because CF likely has a sale clause that the prospective bidder must not operate it within a 400-mile radius of any of their parks and considering the proximity of CP, MichAdv, Dorney and PKI, it may need to be a significant distance - hmmm, how far is that proposed Wild Escape park near Wheeling WV?

The cost of steel has gone way up since Ole Villy was built, so to build a new steel structure wooden coaster of that size would likely be a lot more than moving it, even with the cost of deisel fuel now. Besides, Gravity Group seems more likely for such comparison since I don't recall GCI having done steel structure rides ?

Wheeling isn't even close to being 400 miles (I'd guess about 140 miles), IF there would be such a clause and IF that park ever gets built.

CF likely has a sale clause that the prospective bidder must not operate it within a 400-mile radius of any of their parks

Really? It didn't bruise the park an hour-plus away too badly, so why would that be the case? Maybe you know something we don't...and if you do, care to elaborate?

Villian should be moved to...Valleyfair for that matter

Nah. We already have an ACE classic woodie and just got a GCI. But I could think of a couple OTHER GL coasters we coulda used..........and don't think I'm not still bitter.

-'Playa

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Now, now, Playa -- it's no use crying over spilt roller coasters... ;)

My author website: mgrantroberts.com

^^^whoa, that's I good 'guess' - I googlemapped it and it's 135-ish miles

^^I know nothing (obviously from my geography error in mileage judgement) but it's common sense - do you think they would sell Villian to an expanding go-cart FEC park a few miles down the road from MichAdv or Dorney, or Columbus Zoo for that matter !?!

It didn't hurt CP too badly? Why then did they buy it to eliminate their competition? Apparently 'too badly' was anything cutting into their bottom line (case in Point: MichAdv and PKI aquisitions) *** Edited 5/4/2008 6:14:41 AM UTC by Rye.D.Ziner***

Cedar Point retains the right to deny any seller at any time during the auction any of the coasters. Its just plain business. While the Double Looper remains a plain old classic, they do not want to see 3 woodies built at Conneaut Lake, Wyandot Lake, Waldameer, etc.

The thought that Villain or Big Dipper would cause an attendance Cedar Point is hysterical to me. Heck, another coaster in Sandusky would probably improve CP's attendance a little bit.

Keep telling yourself that.
