I really tried to keep quiet, and stick to the topic at hand, but god damn! Your teen aged attitudes never quit in here. *** Edited 4/24/2008 11:14:38 PM UTC by Coasterphan***

Slow down.
Let me get this straight.
Dick Munch is a real person?
I clicked on the thread at the beginning and called shenannigans just because of the name. Turns out, that's the only legitimate thing in the whole damn thread.
I miss Beavis & Butt-head.
Hi
While I do not enjoy the Big Dipper it would be cool to see it in another park. However, if moved, would CF be required to retrofit the ride to meet the current ride safety standards? Once up-fitted, would it lose its historical charm?
I've always thought that ride was rough as hell regardless of where I sat in the train. *** Edited 4/25/2008 2:41:40 AM UTC by MotorCityCoasterFan***

It seems that the financial commitment to move another attraction would be very steep.
Bell's has diassembled and moved the Zingo into storage, presumably with the intent of reassembling it. If a small park like Bell's can afford it, the cost can't be too steep

As far as changing the ride for CP, I believe it's possible to maintain it's integrity as a vintage ride. As I stated way back there, maybe page 2, if they build the ride on piers over the sand along the boardwalk (behind WT) no reprofiling would be necessary. The out portion could remain the same and the return portion could still dip below "ground level", as it were. (Think Indiana Beach) Bents that are salvageable could be re-erected as is and no additional lumber would be necessary. The Dipper underwent a major overhaul a few years back, and when I rode it on the last day of the (last) season it seemed like it was still in pretty good shape.
I happen to love the ride, and it was my favorite at GL. It thrilled me in the early 70's when coasters weren't nearly as big as they are now, and it still packs a punch, especially the return portion. (It would be great if the original double dip before the turnaround could be restored- it was truly a great slam/bang coaster moment.)
As far as safety issues are concerned, the ride ran as it was for decades, and that was through Geauga Lake's, Premier's, Six Flags' and Cedar Fair's ownership. All were concerned for safety, and besides the standard Cedar Point seat belts, I can't imagine additional safety alterations would be required. Rides that are relocated always recieve new tracking, and that may smooth out any perceived roughness. (Now what CP would choose to do with that ride in their park may be a different matter. Hope not.)
I'll say it again. I hope and pray this happens, and if it does, that it's done intelligently with an eye toward history and preservation.

We are so much alike that it's scary. :)

WOW! This has turned into another ACE bashing event. It's BUZZBASH 32.

Maybe you should read it again, because I don't see any ACE bashing, only the actions of one of its members acting (in an unofficial capacity) on behalf of it.
It's ACE bashing, if only because Richard Munch is being bashed for his words and actions while being noted an ACE member. I've never understood the hostility towards ACE, especially around here where the vast majority of Coasterbuzz contributors have never been a member of the club or interacted with someone in a leadership role within the club. It seems to me that most people can recite a story about meeting an overzealous ACE member in line for a coaster that happened to rub them the wrong way, but that's about it.
If this news item is actually news, it is my hope that it would be done right. I see no reason why Big Dipper wouldn't be a popular, crowd-pleasing ride at Cedar Point. The park has a lot of thrill rides and something family-oriented wouldn't hurt. If what a lot of you say is true, no one's going to know (or care) about the ride having been relocated and will just see it as something new to experience. If they like it, they'll keep on riding it. I just hope the park would resist the urge to reprofile the spunk out of the classic John Miller hills and install Gerstlauer trains.

That's rather asinine. You're saying someone can't criticize a person and his/her personal actions without criticizing an organization that person happens to represent? I don't believe I've seen anyone in this thread say anything about ACE specifically. Meanwhile, ACErs are clearly stating that Mr Munch (hehe) was not representing ACE when making the statements in question. So why are we playing the "poor me" game again?

I find it amazing that this has turned into five pages of buffoonery over such a minor topic.
I think everyone needs to put away the switchblades and kiss and make up.
Certain victory.
