At the closing ceremonies of PPP Dick Knoebel announced that they are currently working on desgining a FLYING TURNS. Dick didn't give too many details other then other companies tried to build them Intamin, Mach, and Arrow but they were never that successful and thrilling. Their plans will go back to the original wooden trough design. They are still in the planning and design stage since the train design and building standards have changed since the original designs.

No dates have been given but I think it's safe to say it won't happen for 06.

Cool! Anywhere I could find Pix? I looked up Flying Turns on RCDB, but didn't turn up anything. I must say, I kinda know what they are, but a visual aid would, well, aid me ;).

He was right... All the Mack bobsleds in Europe are pretty boring or/and rough! While the Intamin version has too many brakes and too little capacity...

I typed flying turns roller coaster into Google, and this is what I got: http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/history/early_1900/roar20_3.shtml

Is this what they're talking about? If so, sweet!

I've often wondered from time to time, how to write good poetry- and make it all... Work.

Yeah, I saw those pix, Oncelor. It didn't really help me out, but now I realize what they are. Heck, those are even in RCDB.

Cool. The bobsleds I rode were kinda fun, a good family coaster. I think it would be a good idea for them.

I've always wanted to go to Knoebel's, and if I don't get there next season this will, by all means, get my procrastinating butt over there...looks sweet!

Flying Turns... it kinda looks like a wooden bobsled coaster.

This is good news. I would ride this.

Woah! That's awesome. I hope it works out well.

Wooden trough, eh? Not exactly what I'd expect in the modern day, but if it can be pulled off I'll be very excited.

My dad who actually rode the euclid beach turns says that they were something of a one of a kind type of ride. I have seen video of them in action from some euclid beach video he bought. Those things were actually connected like the picture shows, and those things were something. The end is a bit wierd, as they were kinda like squeezed back into the orgininal track formation, actually some pretty cool stuff, which they should be able to recreate.

The Mack Bobsleds in Europe are actually pretty darn fun! Schweitzer Bobbahn at Europa Park is wonderfully themed and even has a drop! Avalanche at Blackpool is also a fun ride. Both are pretty short, but they are really cool rides that are great for the whole family.

I know you said DK didn't give a lot of details, but did he at all allude to the possibility of ride coming down the side of the hill that the chairlist rides up? I know that most Knoebels' fan think the hill has a lot of future coaster potential.

I remember seeing some footage of a flying turns ride on the Discovery Channel or something a long while back.

The old ones look a lot more thrilling than the newer bobsled coasters. The cars really seemed to fly up the sides of the banking, more like a bobsled actually does. If they decide to do it, I think it will be a big hit.

The rides don't look "thrilling" to me, but they look like massive amounts of fun. Giggle-inducing, pants-peeing, forget what day of the week it is fun.

Age does have its advantage!!

I've ridden both Riverview's and Euclid Beach's Flying Turns. Boring is NOT a word that comes to mind. If Knoebels is able to recreate Miller & Bartlett's designs, it will give them a coaster unlike any other on the planet.

Mack's Bobsled's are similar, but the tubular metal track is just plain wrong.

Leave it to Dick Knoebel to once again try to give us a coaster that is unique, thrilling and historical.

I do kknow I like PKD's Avalanche and it could only be better if it was longer and faster.

I hope this works out well for Dick and Company.

Considering that one of the great "amusement minds" of our time is working on the project (John Fetterman), I don't see this project being a failure.

Nice to see that Pennsylvania will soon be home to practically the entire history of the wood coaster (Schmeck, Miller, Allen, CCI, GCI, both Vettels, a side-friction figure-8 and a flying turns.)
