GD Im Angry! Say what you want about my little home park!

SF's just announced after October Astroworld will be dismantled and the property put up for sale!

It's a sad sad day for me!

The park would have been fine if Premere never came in and ran it down!

There are many more links, but this is just one. I hate to see any park go, even Astroworld.

New to a Six Flags near you! Rides that used to be there before, went to Astroworld and are now back! Isn't that GREAT?!?

When you think about it, it is probably a great move for SF. They can get lots of "new" attractions for different parks and make money in the process. I still hate to see a park go. I wonder how many rides will get transferred and how many will be scrapped.

That's a bummer. I was hoping to get back down there again one day. Is it possible the park (and rides) could be bought and reopened by another investor, or does SFI take all the rides with them?

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!

Oh wow. I guess it's not really a surprising move as this is one of their lowest attended parks, but this place has a lot of history.. Which kept drowning in the history of other parks, so I guess there wasn't much left of its original self anyways. I'm sad to see it go, but it will help SF out and I'm not sure what amusement company would even want to purchase the park if SF sold it as a park. This may leave up to 15 coasters floating around for SF is they get out of NO as well.

Sounds like by the second article, a bunch of the rides will be moved to the nearby waterpark ... wonder if that will be renamed Astroworld? Sort of like the SFEG move?

SFA next?

No I dont think you are right.

First of all the waterpark mentioned is not right next to AW. They are talking about Splashtown!

Second I believe they are talking about water rides.

Bamboo shoot, Diablo falls and such. I do not expect to see large rides moved, and yes I bet several parks will be getting some new/used rides.

Splashtown is land locked. They dont have growth room for the major rides.

It's really a sad day hear in Houston! This is piece of history going down thanks to Premere! *** Edited 9/12/2005 10:38:21 PM UTC by Markieb***

Equipment doesn't necessarily mean rides.

Six Flags Waterworld was the waterpark inside Astroworld and it sounds like some of those rides, attractions, etc. will be going to Splashtown. It's in Houston as well I believe and they're the park that got the Tornado slide (not WW) this season afaik.

The rides will go up for sale, or to other parks, or sold for scrap.

The land will be sold for commercial developement!

Wow, stunning move.

If they kill off either Shwartzkopf then I just hate them.

I wonder if they'll destroy Ultratwister? *** Edited 9/12/2005 11:03:57 PM UTC by thepinkdoomofmonkeys***

wonder if the parking situation was the final nail in the coffin for the park?

The news just said the parking situation did play a role. That is perfectly understandable!

They said the rides moved locally would be from the water park section of the ride!

Hmm, this has me wondering if either Batman The Escape and/or Serial Thriller (maybe as a BTR) were in the plans to move to Great Escape for their flagging (along with other rides here). I'm very interested in what SF plans to do with the coasters, Diablo Falls, and SWAT. Who has room for XLR-8 (SFDL or SFA)? Where would there be interest in Greezed Lightnin' (EV or WL)? Will the Cyclone stay in Texas (FT)?

Wow! This is completely shocking!

I've never been to the park before but it is still sad to hear of any amusement park closing. From what I understand, the park is sort of land-locked, no?

What I find sort of disappointing in the article is that there is no mention of evaluating the park on how to improve its situation and instead they evaluate on what is good for its stock-holders. I'm afraid we are seeing this in other parks as well.

While it may look good to pay off dividends at the end of the year, the expense of simply raising the cost of your product to offset the shrinking attendance may be much more than a business may think. Sure you can make your stock more attractive to buy, but if you don't have the business to do, you're not going to last long. This mentality is causing Six Flags to shrink, not grow.
