Because that's what they're legally bound to do.

Looks like SFABATWING will get a new coaster after all.

This is sad though I would have loved to visist. I was looking at some pics and the park does looke extremely nice.

I wonder if they are doing anything for the Evacuee from NO because the park is right next to the center.

Thanks,
DMC

I understand that they are legally bound to do that. I wouldn't want to invest in a company that doesn't evaluate what is good for the stockholders. Its simply disappointing to see that mentality at the corporate level.

Hmm, this has me wondering if either Batman The Escape and/or Serial Thriller (maybe as a BTR) were in the plans to move to Great Escape for their flagging (along with other rides here). I'm very interested in what SF plans to do with the coasters, Diablo Falls, and SWAT. Who has room for XLR-8 (SFDL or SFA)? Where would there be interest in Greezed Lightnin' (EV or WL)? Will the Cyclone stay in Texas (FT)?

us astroworld fans don't need to hear about that :(

really, we don't need to hear about that
How far is the park from the airport. I think I'm gonna fly down in 2 weeks.

Thanks,
DMC

If a person comes in and buys the company since the whole company is for sale couldnt they stop the sale of the park ?

SFA next?

Sorry I don't see this park going. It's right in Snyder's backyard. Plus its my homepark. I will cringe if this park closes and my new homepark is PKD. I just can't do the 2hr. drive there, even if i wanted to. Plus attendance wise is very well, only 15 miles from Washington, DC.

Anyways its sad to hear a member of the family is leaving. Though I knew that this will happen to any of the low attended SF parks. SFAW will always be missed by enthusiasts, Houston GP, and Six Flags. *** Edited 9/12/2005 11:41:11 PM UTC by SF Critic***

I don't know ALL the Facts!!!!!!
Can we (SFStL) have Dungeon Drop? Please?!?
While I'm sorry to hear the park is closing, I did at least manage to get one visit in on the Zombies trip in 2002. Even though it hurt everytime we passed a closed Taz's Tornado, we still managed to have a good time, and we were there for a day and a half. There's lots of goodies worth having at other parks. I'd love to have XLR-8 at SFA and from I remember reading on a SFAW site, it's meant to travel. Batman the Escape is a great standup coaster––if they could fix the headrest restraints which are made out of concrete. That would certainly make BatwingFanSFA happy (I think). Viper flat out rocks. The headchopper coming out of the loop woke me up! Mayan Mindmender is a cute little in-the-dark coaster. Certainly not the best of its kind, but again, it's family friendly. But whoever gets Ultra Twister, Texas Cyclone (if possible), or Greezed Lightnin' (sp?) will be very lucky.

In the pure fantasy mode, I would love it we could get rid of Tower of Doom and swap it out for the much higher Dungeon Drop. Maybe Serpent could find a home at Knoebels, since it's a coaster that seems right up their alley.

Whatever happens, I'd love to see if someone buys the Chance Yo-Yo with the guns intact!

SFA's land value has been mentioned for YEARS as being a much bigger guarenteed value than the park sitting there on it. Now throw in the crime level that seems to come from that area, and that it drags from an area that is already quite saturated with large parks (Hershey, SFGAdv, PKD, BGW) and it seems to me to be just as ripe a candidate for sale as SFAW.

Sorry dude, but when your arguments all basically come off of driving distance for a possible bidder (note possible) and yourself, it doesn't lend much credibility to you. Come back and try again when you can come up with something better than high land values, high crime and market saturation.

..................:( :( :( good bye astroworld
I'm shocked.
Anything can happen at this point, but the next logical step would be for SF's to introduce very low cost (Dismantle, move, and assembly) new rides at ailing parks in need of new rides. SFFT and Denver come to mind! Take the few good rides we do have and move them to enhance smaller parks. *** Edited 9/13/2005 12:12:17 AM UTC by Markieb***
I'm putting my vote in that Viper comes back to SFSTL as the Jet Scream again. :) (one can only wish)

I wouldn't be so sure. Do you know the value of the land SFA sits on?

However, I, like I-Fan, would welcome XLR-8.

Overall this doesn't surprise me. The nail in the coffin was being forced to close Labor Day weekend. So, instead of one park being closed Labor Day weekend (SFNO), SFAW was closed as well. Bottom line, SFI lost a bunch of revenue Labor Day weekend in addition to the expense of having to recover a water logged park.

My question? Could the rides as SFAW be moving to SFNO? *** Edited 9/13/2005 12:15:00 AM UTC by coasterguts***

A day at the park is what you make it!
