WORLD'S GREATEST FIRST DROP

What wooden and steel coaster has the world's greatest first drop? On wood, I believe that nothing compares to the Riverside Cyclone (now just Cyclone) at Six Flags New England. That double banked drop is the most intense and awesome first drop that is unmatched by any wooden coater in existance. As for steel, I'm sure Millennium Force is a hands-down winner, but since I've never ridden it ('til September!) I gotta give best steel first drop to The Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The experience of diving 165 feet in a sharp left twist, while standing up! is incredable. Because of the fact that you're standing up and facing straight at the ground, it looks and feels like you're freefalling! If you've ridden this record breaking stand-up ride (and haven't been on MF yet) you'd probably agree with me.

So what do you think? Best first drop on a steel and wooden coaster.

Superman at SFDL and SFA have the best steel drops of all. The feeling of flying down the drop is beyond belief. As for a wooden drop, the first one of Roar at SFA is the best as it is hard to beat the over 90 degree twist to the right straight into the turnaround off the top.

Gonna have to say Magnum.. Even after 11 years its still a crazy insane drop. i think its something about the windy surrondings and the slow lift hill that builds up adrenaline!!!

Wooden id have to say(out of what ive been on... not too many) is Villian. right now its stickin out in my mind the most cause i just rode it a couple weels ago. Also the Jack Rabbit at kwood has got the double dip!!!

I have to go with the GREAT WHITE at Morey's Piers in New Jersey. That drop is so fast and smooth! Especially when you mix it with the incredible ocean view.

Hands up, best drop right now is Millennium Force. 80 degrees, bay-bee!

Wood, the Beast at night- plunging into either the dark tunnel first or though the helix on the second- pitch black!

For wood, I love the beast at night, although I haven't ridden some of the ones listed. For steel, MF wins. I would say Magnum was my favorite before I rode the MF. Now, all the other drops seem like anthills.

I have to agree with roadkill above. Just got off Millenium Force Twice and it is clearly the greatest first drop on any steel coaster.

Although, I think wood coasters are more difficult to compare, the greatest drop I have been on is the beast an King's Island. All around, a great wooden coaster.

I think the Mean Streak's first drop rules. Althought the rest of the ride isn't the greatest, the first drop is outta control.

Actually in my opinion the first drop on Mean Streak is OVERcontrolled :-) That trim break on it just kills it (although sometimes it results in hangtime, which is interesting)

Millennium Force easily has the best first Steel drop. Thunderbolt has the best first drop in the woodie department -- right out of the station. It's not that large, but it's just so cool to have that being the very first thing the coaster does :)

Millennium Force all the way. The drop is INSANE. For wood there is something about Shivering Timber's drop that I love.

39 laps on MF and 1st hill got me EVERY single time-hands down-my personal favorite!!

Hands down (or should I say hands up) IMHO The American Eagle at SFGAm has the most awesome first drop I have experienced. It literly takes your breath away. Every time I ride, I start to scream, but about a thrid of the way down the scream gets caught in my throat and doesnt resurface until we hit the bunny hills b4 the turnaround. The rest of the ride is just mediocre (blasted brakes!) I'll holla.

Im personally not about the first drop but my favorite is Colossus at Magic Mountain. I dont know what it is about it, but it seems to pack more of a punch than most. Heck I personally dont even care for the ride except at night.

Raptor has an amazing first drop, not so much scary or intense as it is exhilerating. the view of the midway it provides is cool too. for wood, it probably be Beast, or Gemini if you consider it wood. I haven't rode many woodies outside the Ohio/Kentucky area, though. Before they installed the trim breaks, (first season) MS would have been my pick.

The best first drop is Kraken, because the view is incredible! Also, you get plenty of airtime and weightlessness!

The Legend at Holiday World has the greatest wood drop in the back seat. You get air on the way down then as it turns to the left into the tunnel still dropping it pulls you to the right in the seat.
As for best steel Apollo's Chariot in the back is the winner. It just rips you out of the seat and to hang on the restraint untill the bottom of the hill!

I'm going to have to go with Millenium Force. Falling nearly straight down and a blistering 92 mph. Easily the best part of the ride, and the greatest first drop.

I have never been on, but Oblivion at Alton Towers in England looks great. Going straight down!

Although alot of pepole seem to want to take a gas can and a lighter to it, I really like the first drop on the Psyclone at SFMM. It starts off steep and about a third of the way down it gets steeper! (dont know the exact angles) I always feel like putting my hands down and grabbing onto my lap bar for dear life. (*note* feel like, I keep 'em up)

It may not be my "world's best" but it gets me every time. As for the rest of the ride... pretty ho-hum, I still vote to keep it around, despite other opinions.

I like Steel Force for best steel drop. It is steep, smooth, and Mind-Blowing! I love that ride and I believe it is much better than its Mid-Western counterparts ( Mamba and Wild Thing).

For wood, I woul say The twisting drop on Lightning Racer.
