I am a big fan of suspunded coasters, of course if they are made right. My opinion listed most favorite to least favorite, from what i have ridden:

Vortex (PCW) - Very intense, its first hill is about 90 feet and second about 70 feet, the rest of the coaster is low, making for great speed, and lots of swinging, over a creek also!

BBW (BGW) - first part fo the ride is releaxing, swinging through the village, then the swwop by the river makes it all worthwhile. Its an especially good nightrider!

Top Gun (PKI) - This ride is okay, but dosent do a lot for me.

Iron Dragon (CP) - Even worse than top gun! I am surprised the trains even make it around those helixes at the end of the ride. Families love this attraction.

XLR - 8 (SFAW) - Now that half of the train runs backwards, I still wouldnt even waste my time. To many straight portions of the track, and no real drops!

Coaster Trivia! It is rumored that, at one time, an Arrow suspended roller coaster was slated for installation at Carowinds. What name was given to the proposed ride?

Before TTD, MF, and Mantis were built, ID was a great coaster. I still get a good ride out of it, but the scenery isn't so great anymore. It was awesome when it wrapped through that grove of trees.

TG and Vortex are clones so I dont understand the disparity between the two. As for ID in the trees, riding it in 87 there were even fewer trees then there are now. They do grow you know

Well, I know there were less trees in 1987, but the in the "golden years" to follow through 1996.

Wow, I didn't realize they were clones. Are you sure? They're similar, maybe I just didn't see the connection. I think I probably enjoyed Top Gun more because I smacked my head pretty hard on the harness when I rode Vortex, and ever since I've been not-so-happy with that ride. ;) Plus I like TG's color scheme better. (Not that that's what you should base a coaster on, but it adds to the effect. ;))

Yeah. What I said in the old topic you linked too was what I thought of the ride last season, but having been on it again this year now that many of the problems I mentioned have gone, I like the new trains but they will never beat the old ones.

TG and Vortex Clones! Thinking about it I Guess they could be, havent paid much attention, I thought that TG had a perfect helix, whereas vortex didnt have any real symmetry to its lower track! For some reason though I always found the Vortex to be more intense, clones with TG or not!

Vortex is more intense in my opinion also, do the trains' design have to do with that? It seems to me that Vortex's trains are much sleeker.

It seems to me like the suspended coaster was a good idea more or less abandoned too quickly by theme park operators. I have enjoyed BBW every time I have been on it and I would love to see what could be done with the concept. It might also be more fun if the cabins didn't have those OTSR's.

Vortex and Top Gun are almost the same, but not quite. According to RCDB, Top Gun is 78' tall, where Vortex is 91' with an 85' drop, so it is also faster. Top Gun also has one more car per train.
Besides that, I'm pretty sure they're the same, although never having ridden Top Gun I'm not certain.

Vortex is built on a fake mountain and Top Gun is built on a hill. I believe this is the disparity in height.

Seems like you people loved this idea. I haven't ridden one yet , so I can't comment. Although S&S Arrow better be reading this.

In any way though are these more fun than any non-Vekoma inverted (B&M)?

Top Gun is really good, just stay away from the maintence trucks :p

Scooby High Score: 1830 as of May 3!

Actually BBW is Schwartzkopfs layout. The company went bankrupt after a lot of supports were built. Arrow was brought in to finish the project.
