Every first ride on an anticipated coaster is memorable, but The Force was special for me as well.
Simply put, I grew up with that coaster. I was never away from it for more than a month at a time during its construction. I was there for footers, the construction of the transfer table, track hanging, the pull through... really everything other than the first run.
So when Longaberger had their buy-out day, and I was in, I was ready. It was hot, and because of that pesky anti-rollback problem, they could only run one train (that and they had only been certified to run two as the blocking still wasn't worked out). We ended up in the second car, which worked out just fine.
By that time, I knew every inch of track, and knew that I was in for about a minute of pure speed. Man did it deliver.
That drop was the stuff of the gods. By the time we hit the high speed turn toward the first tunnel, I was light headed from screaming and the G's that pulled my legs to the floor. Third hill... floater airtime all the way through. Oh yes... this was a ride I could get used to.
Before I knew it, the ride was over and we slid into the magnetic brakes. Despite the heat, the huge crowd was all about that ride, and every train came back loud and excited. That trend lasted right through closing day.
