Mr Freeze

Ive been hearing that it wont open up in 2003 and that there having major problems with the structure. Any more info on this

Which Mr. Freeze are you talking about? SFStL or SFoT?

While we're on the topic of this, could someone please explain, in great detail, how the loading system works on this.

For Mr. Freeze, both of them I think, (I've only ridden SfStL) There are two different loading docks for the ride to cut down line times. When on train is on the cycle for the ride, the other is loading. After the train that is on the cycle gets back, it slides back to it's side. Then the train that was loading while the other one was on the cycle will move to the middle, and then it will go through the cycle. And so on, and so on....

If you can explain any better, go ahead...

The loading station is like one big transfer track with two sliding tracks. The tracks go to the left and to the right to load/unload. The train ready to launch will slide to the center, line up with the track then launch. When the train returns, the track will slide back, then the other will slide over to the center. This just repeats back and forth.

If I aint mistaken there was a rumor during the off season in late 2001, that claimed a stress induced crack was found in the Texas coaster, in late September. This caused the St. Louis one to shut down in early October, never to reopen. The story goes that apparently the problem was found and fixed. I could be wrong but I dod know in the fall of the 2001 season soemthing happened in Texas to cause the shut down of both rides.

Um, pretty sure I rode Mr. Freeze in October while I was at SFStl. Yeah it closed once during the day but it was operating.

Didn't both rides close once before because of the restraints and a large amount of people complaining about the pain they caused. Now that they have the lap bars it reopened. Though I don't know.

How are the Mr. Freeze coasters anyway? Are they as good as The Chiller?

Everyone I know says Mr. Freeze is better. Hard to believe but if they are even half as good as Chiller they have to be amazing.

St. Louis might have closed for the rest of the 2001 season, but it wasn't "never to reopen". It was operating in the 2002 season, though it would have been nice if they had run both trains when I was there. It was a 45 minute wait in 99 degree head with no shade.

Both sides where running when I went in October. I think its a pretty good ride. I never rode Chiller so I can't compair. The inverted top hat is pretty scary with just a lap bar.

I like freeze better (having ridden both sides of chiller and SFStL's version with lap bars). The top hat has a little more head choppage, and the overbank isn't as brutal/just not fun as chiller's in-lines (which i still don't like). On top of that, the vertical spike is way cooler than the spikes on chiller.

I don't know anything about St Louis, but Arlington is probably not going to run their ride this year.

I thought Mr. Freeze was a decent coaster, but Chiller is fantastic. Chiller (though I only rode Robin) is fast, intense, and forceful. The inline twist on Chiller is nothing short of amazing, while Freeze's overbank is very ho-hum. I actually prefer Chiller's spikes because there's not this odd/awkward "we're slowing, slowing, speeding up, climbing, stoppling, falling" feeling that Freeze has. If the second set of LIMs for Freeze were somewhere else (at the bottom of the spike maybe) it would be a much more solid ride, IMO. Chiller is also much better-presented.

How do you know that and what is wrong with it?

Well, for one thing, SFOT's Mr. Freeze is the only one of their coasters not labeled on the 2003 map. I would think that's a pretty good sign that it's not gonna run.

From reading the different Texas sites, it seems that there are serious stress fractures on the Mr. Freeze at SFOT(both on the ride and in the foundation). I know that their Mr. Freeze was closed for most of September and all of October last year. It needs major work done to it, so it won't run until late in the year(if at all in 2003).

The Mr. Freeze here in St. Louis ran fine all the way through the end of the year. It is probably getting a major off season check-up before a decision is made on it running or not in 2003.

Well, if there are such serious problems with a coaster that is only 6 years old, surely the park would have a case against the manufacturer?

Raptor had serious stress fractures in the cobra roll a few years back. I don't know if any action taken agaisnt B and M or if B and M were the ones who did the repair.
