Mr Freeze

6 years? I'm sure there is some warranty time limit that the manufacturers provide on things like that to fix and redesign.

Now since, no one was hurt and the ride didn't fall over, there is no need for a case against the manufacturer.

Well, I was at SFOT on thier last two operating days of the season. I knew the Freeze would be closed before going as it was the end of the season. However, I was passing by the park on the Monday (Jan 6 or 7th?) after the last day they were open and they had huge craines next to it. 2 if I remember correctly although I may have been seeing one in the background for Superman. Regardless, they had workers in the structure doing something but I assumed it was a normal routine with the lims on the spike and the typical off season work they do.
I am a ride op at St. Louis and I haven't heard any reason or rumor that Freeze won't be open this year. I'm sure that big blue paperweight as we so affectionately call it will be open this season.

Not to sound too self-interested LOL, but as long as the SFStL version is open post-SRM it'll be cool by me....TX is certainly a trip I want to do, but '03 looks to be packed pretty full of trips as is...

But, I've yet to ride Freeze, or Boss...and other than the new Ozark WildCat, those are the two *new-to-me* rides I'm looking forward to...

Well, if there are such serious problems with a coaster that is only 6 years old, surely the park would have a case against the manufacturer?

Not if it wasn't installed where it was originally intended and it was installed on the bank of a creek that caused fondation shifting.

PM....that being the case, it would be *safe to assume* that the Freeze in St Louis is NOT going to have the downtime, correct? Not to be a pest, but I've heard so MANY good things about Freeze...
Well if they're having problems due to foundation shifting then it's certainly a wise choice to keep the ride closed until they can figure out a solution to this problem.

My guess is that perhaps instead of scrapping the coaster all together they'll instead try to relocate it to another section of the park on which a much more solid foundation can be constructed & that's the reason for the removal of the ride from the 03 park maps.

I actually prefer Chiller's spikes because there's not this odd/awkward "we're slowing, slowing, speeding up, climbing, stoppling, falling" feeling that Freeze has. If the second set of LIMs for Freeze were somewhere else (at the bottom of the spike maybe) it would be a much more solid ride, IMO.

The placement of the LIMs is one of my favorite parts of the ride, especially on the front. You are slowing down and you can tell the top of the spike is nearing and the new burst of speed scares you because you think that it going to push you to the very top (though in reality you know it will not you still get the sensation). Placing the LIMs at the bottom would be very ho-hum IMO. However, it seems as if I'm not going to get to experience it at all this season.

However, the foundation problems have caused the structure itself to weather far more wear than is acceptable. The amount of money they will probably have to spend to move/repair would be in the millions. Will they spend that kind of money on a five year old attraction? It's sorta popular, sure, but you come across the same issue SF had with Texas Tornado. If they have to spend that much money to get it working again, might they put it in a different park so they can reap some reward via marketing?
What a shame. Out of 11 people on the Coaster Zombies tour last year, only one person didn't think Freeze was the best (he liked Titan).

I know Great America has been whoring out most of the new coasters from the Six Flags capital expenditures budget, but Mr Freeze would be a sweet addition to the park :) (probably not the best from a business standpoint, there are already two shuttles right now)

Just call me a selfish enthusiass!

Yeah, it's my favorite ride at that park too. Who knows what's going to happen though, that ride has long been Arlington's problem child.

I hear Six Flags is going to remove Mr Freeze from SFOT, put it in storage for a year, and then split it into two shorter shuttles. It will debut in 2004 at SFAW and SFDL as "Mr - The Ride" and "Freeze - The Ride" respectively.

Enigma13: Have you ridden any other shuttles with a vertical spike? There's an awesome amount of airtime/weightlessness combined with freefall that Mr. Freeze doesn't have because of those stupid LIMs. Well, the freefall is still there but you're already back in your seat by then. It'd be like adding a lift to the top of the Intamin impulses or S:UE (though at least it'd make it to the top then! ;) ).

Hey, bring it to SFoG, I wouldn't complain...

To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing wrong with St. Louis' version.
