Positive aspects of an SLC

I've run into three SLC's: Great Nor'Easter (Morey's) and Mind Eraser (SFA and SFDL). The OTSR's on the Nor'Easter seemed to be contoured differently than the other two (if I remember right). IF the OTSR's are contoured like this, I don't have a problem with an SLC... I kind of like them. Really twisted and disorienting for their size.

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

Only been on two, so far-SFWoA's, which is excellent, and SFKK's, which is abysmal.

The first time I rode Serial Thriller at WoA, in my pre-enthusiass days, I got off thinking, "That's a pretty kick ass ride!" I am willing to bet that there are other "closet" SLC fans out there that are afraid to display their love.

I have yet to be graced with the pleasure (or lack there of) of riding one of these beasts. I was next in line at SF Mexico when the OTSR on B:TR stuck and closed the ride for the rest of the day.

Don't forget Vekoma is a Dutch company, their name should therefore be pronounced the Dutch way. :) So that's [vay-koma] indeed.

What's the difference between El Condor (first generation) and I guess uh, the second generations? I've tried looking at pics of El Condor and other SLCs and all that I can find is that the drop of (for instance Serial Thriller at SFAW) seems MUCH steeper than El Condor's. And the sea serpent seems much broader on El Condor, as well as the drop and rise after the half loop seems to go down deeper on El Condor.

I really liked the double barrel roll on T2 at SFKK. It was extremely smooth and maintained speed throughout. Not a bit of headbanging in that element.

Well, let me try and explain the difference between El Condor and for instance Vampire (2nd generation, Six Flags Belgium).

1) The evacuation path besides the lift-hill is different.
2) The first drop of Vampire is deeper than that of El Condor.
3) The supports around the first drop stand closer to the track on El Condor.
4) The butterfly / sea serpent on Vampire is larger.
5) Vampire has an onride photo at the bottom of the sidewinder (not an option on El Condor).
6) The final turn pulls more G's on Vampire.
7) El Condor has bunny hops between the final turn and the brake run, Vampire has swirls.
8) El Condor has a different floor-mechanism, which is much slower than the mechanism on Vampire.
9) El Condor originally had 10 coach trains, Vampire has 8 coach trains.
10) El Condor originally had an exit station as well.
11) El Condor originally had three trains in operation, Vampire only has two.

Quite a list, isn't it. :) El Condor was modified before the opening. The exit-station has never actually been built. The extra two coaches have never been handed over to the park. The third train has never been used, it is only being used to take out spare parts.

Positve things? None are named Batman, no that isn't true. Sporty two across seating as opposed to public transportation style four across. Small footprint. There aren't any in SoCal. Yet.

Ah, but there is one named Batman, in SFM. SFKK's was painted black to be re-named for the parks transformation, but it never went through.

Perhaps that is why I wrote "no that isn't true" Did you just get off an SLC? Maybe your vision is blurred because of it.

I rode the Hangman at Opryland. It was pretty rough, but bearable. I found it smooth enough to ride more than once. Its at SFMW now.

What's funny is that out of the 4 SLCs I've been on, Kong at SFMW is absolutely the smoothest one I've ridden, when I rode it last year. There was almost no roughness on that thing. I couldn't believe it. Still can't. Maybe I just caught it on a really, really, really good day :~)

Just imagine the Cedar Point announcement, "420 feet high at more than 100 mph straight up and straight down with a twist!". "Nah uh, really?" : ) I'm much more patient when I can see exactly what they are building.

I like the layout and the appearance of the ride...and I didnt find it rough....I liked it a lot and i only bashed my head once and it was my fault because i moved my head the opposite way that it was turning....if you lean forward you will have a better ride IMO.

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoyed Serial Thriller at SFWoA.

Very intense with some wicked ass leg choppers (being 6ft 2 in. kind of adds to that) :) I wouldnt mind one of these closer to home.

I enjoy the intensity. Especially the Great Noreaster in NJ. Who cares if they are rough. They are still a coaster, and I'll ride any.
