Positive aspects of an SLC

I love them. Mostly when I'm playing roller coaster tycoon 2, I build a vekoma inverted coaster over B&M. So what if people don't like them. Their good coasters to me and people who go to a parks, spend up to $100, with family and friends and just have a good time for a day or two.

I've only ridden one SLC and that was Serial Thriller at SFWoA. I'd have to admit, I did not extend my legs at all the entire ride. My feet were kept close to the bottom of the seat.

I'd have to say the best aspect of an SLC is the foot choppers.

Line jumping is cause for removal from soceity.

Well, they're compact and the elements are pretty rapid fire. Good visuals, such as the before-mentioned footchoppers. Some people get nauseous and light-headed by the intensity of the other mass produced inverted (B:TR), and Serial Eraser won't do that to them. They also seem pretty popular at the parks which don't have many better rides.

A Vekoma ride is small and cheap, yet the average visitor of any themepark loves them. That's the reason there are so many of them.

On the other hand, a cheaper ride mostly means less durable and less 'smooth'. The trains do not have wheels that are pushed against the track at all times like Intamin for example. So you can get a quite bumpy ride...

Yet, the smoothness of an SLC is provided by the parks. The Limit at Heide-Park for example was built in 1999 but is much more rough than the El Condor at SF Holland, which was built in 1994. Maintenance is important !

I like an SLC for being compact and intense, with fun and unique elements. Like the 'wallride turn' before the sidewinder. And the double spiral.

Don't judge a ride because of it's smoothness, judge it by the overall experience. Starting from queue entrance to the exit of the building, Space Mountain (DLP) is a BRILLIANT ride, yet the coaster is rough as hell...I don't mind. Sure it would be better with a smooth ride, but take the ride how it is and enjoy !
You like rough woodies, why not a little bumpy steel coaster for once ?

I also like the general looks of SLC's. In addition, the Serial Thriller (SFAW) was very smooth and enjoyable. I recall some roughness, but no banging. SFDL's has aged badly, as has SFNE's.
Beligan: Vekomas aren't cheap any more. An SLC costs just about as much as a B&M Batman clone.

A Vekoma SLC costs about 5 million. Anybody out there who knows how much a Batman clone costs?

Dutch Coastin' :: European coasters, thrills and theming!

Stupid question.. What's the difference between an SLC and an inverted?
Also, SLC's give the GP way more excitement than your average coaster enthusiast. For those of us that know that there's B&M's, Intamins, and even a Giovanola inverted out there, it kind of takes away the excitement a bit knowing there's smoother, etc. The GP goes to their local homepark and sees one that hangs under the track and your legs dangle! Coolness! They're also quite compact so even smaller scale parks can have an inverted.

No they don't....they're around $10 Million US dollars:

Those are 4 and 5 years old. Slightly older ones went for around 8 or so. With inflation, I can only assume they cost more now.

Compare to 1997 Batman clone http://rcdb.com/installationdetail489.htm

Well, I have been on a few SLC's, Mind Eraser at SFEG, T2 at SFKK, and Hangman at Opryland. (*sigh*, poor Opryland) Anyways, I don't remember much about the roughness of Hangman, so I think I liked it a lot. lol I even got a souvenir T-shirt of it! As for the other 2, they were pretty rough. But, it's pretty funny going around on one. I mean, it threw me around so much that I was almost laughing. And it is also funny seeing what people think of it the first time they ride it. lol But, I LOVE the layout of the ride. I think it's very interesting to look at.

I hate how batman the ride sends all my blood to my feet, making my legs hurt.

Strange.. the customized Great Nor'Easter was sold for 'only' 5 million.

They got exactly what they paid for ;)

That was one of the first SLCs, they must have gone up. I remember reading prices for the second batch (round 96-97) were more around 7-8 million) and then they continued to go up.

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoyed Serial Thriller at SFWoA.

You're crazy.

Actually, of the three I've been on, Serial Thriller is the most fun.

Other than in spots they are not that rough. They cshould be taken in moderation that is all. Although I rode Mind Eraser at SFDL 8 times in a row and needless to say I haad the worst headache I have ever had that night.

Have you hugged a Beemer today?

Well Chris, you are going to think I am insane because I enjoyed all 3 Vekomas at SFWoA.

X-Flight had some strong G's going into the first turnaround after the flip over from the drop. The loop was definitely an experience.

Mind Eraser to me was fun. Like I have said in other posts, being tall contributes to not having your head feel like its involved in a tennis match.

Heck, all the Vekomas I have experienced were at least... "fun" to me.

2 superheroes in Gurnee next season? Oh the humanity. :)

The only positive thing i can think about SLC's, is that they have a pretty smooth brake run.

Now,ifonlyI couldgetmyspacebarto workright.

My first SLC was T2 at Kentucky Kingdom in 1997. It scared me to pieces as it was quite rough.

But when Geauga Lake added theirs in 1998, I loved it. In SFWoA's case, I think the location helps make it a great ride. I find it intimidating to climb up the lift, especially at night, with nothing under you and the lake on your left.

I like the first drop and the heartline roll right after it.

I have learned that if you keep your head against the right head pad that Serial Thriller can be a smooth coaster.

I rode Kong at SFMW in 2001 and though it was relatively smooth, it seemed the train was going to stall in the inversions.
