How about having titles for members with a lot of posts.
Example:
1-50 posts- Coaster Rider
51-100 posts- Coaster Fan
101-150 posts- Coaster Enthusiest
151-200 posts- Coaster Lover
201 & beyond- Coaster Freak
-Just a hint;)

You probably got this idea from Danimation. I personally think it would be cool but lets see what good old Jeff has to say about it.

That's part of Ultimate Bulletin Board's software. In improving POP Forums, I've been careful about adding new features. Generally speaking I didn't add anything "just because UBB is doing it." A good example is the icons. I tend to find them useless, and rarely used appropriately.

I'll think about it.

I'm thinking that this may lead to an increase in useless posts just so people can "pad" their post count to gain a title. What would happen if a post was deleted? Could someone be "demoted?"

Generally, I don't see much of a point for this.

That really doesn't add anything to the site so I say leave it out. Less is more.

Well since a lot of people have good opinions on the matter. Honestly... do you think that the UBB interface is too cluttered? How does POP Forums compare? Be kind. ;)

Actually I got this idea from metsonline.net(since I am a NY Mets fan). They have names like Mets Rookie, Veteran, All-Star, Hall-of-Famer.
I don't know, it is preaty cool though!

Cluttered? Yep. How do POP Forums compare? See my above post.

Jeff, I think POP Forums is way cleaner(and better), I hate all the dumb features(member's icons etc) of UBB.

Coasterbuzz (and GTTP) are the only forums I visit. That's partly based on the neat uncluttered appearance that makes it easy to read. In my opinion, the only thing that really detracts from this are the signatures. :)

My opinion is that the funny titles tend to cause people to post "Totally Useless Posts" just to get their numbers, and egos built up.

The icons, however, seem to be a good way to put some emotion into your post. Face it, text just doesn't convey emotions very well. Icons could be used with different facial expressions that would help to convey the tone of the post.

One thing I enjoy about POP forums as opposed to UBB is the minimal formatting and special effects features offered. When people start using bold and italics, and different colors and font sizes and styles, and adding images and such, it really slows down reading the forum and can make it annoying or hard to read.

POP version 4 adds the much needed navigational tools and makes it very easy to use.

Content is favorable to looks and special effects.

I think that this kind of forum keeps the discussions more focussed. forums on other sites tend to wander off on a tangent and I think this may have something to do with formatting of the forum.

In this context, everyone is supposed to be commenting on the main topic, and if want to comment on a comment, you can use the quote-reply feature.

what about based on track record.
But you would still have the same problem.

This is touched on in another thread. Enthusiasm isn't measured by your track record, so why give members "titles" accordingly?

Don't add any little cutesy names, it would clutter up the boards with people trying to get their counts up. "I don't want to be a ride designer anymore, I only need 100 more posts to be a super duper ride designer!!"... kinda like another site... rhymes with Canimation... ;)
