I think people will still use the phrase "hyper" for simplicity's sake. It's a more general term. For example, Millennium Force is a hypercoaster but more specifically a gigacoaster.

Being as there's so much speculation on CP going over 400 feet with the new coaster and that number now seems totally reasonable to some people - I thought the replies in this thread from last year were kind of humorous.

Funny how a tidbit of info, some new track pieces and a ton of speculation can make the general opinion change in 12 months time.

Did they scrap the plans for Heide Park's Intamin 400' coaster? If they didn't you won't have to wait more than a few months, it's been under construction for two years from what I heard a while ago. Can anybody confirm this?

CP can't be getting the HP coaster, from it's drawing it looks very similar to MF, only taller. Doesn't make sense for CP to get it? Most people are convinced CP is getting a Rocket Coaster. I'm quite sure myself, only it's still rumour. Why a Rocket Coaster? It (might) be something else.

All the values are wrong.10 to the 1st power is 10, to the 2nd 100, to the 3rd 1000, so 10 to the 21st it would be 100000000000000000000 :) Also "kilo" is for 1000 not 100. Just a thought.

I share the same beliefs of many, rollercoasters arn't scary any more and I ( as well as others) would like them to be. But on the other hand I don't think they should have to go exceed normal heights to be scary. I think the design of the coasters need to change and parks need to incorporate more theming into their coasters. Or make the coaster more complex. EX: X-Flight at SFWoA was GREAT, but it could've been so much better if it was faster and taller (without being something like 350 feet) but it also would've been more fun if you flipped from the lying postion to the flying position over water and you were actually close enough to put extend your arm into the water, if your arms were long enough. So to me it's a matter of the layout and theming of a coaster more so than height and speed. I mean who wouldn't think a inverted coaster that dove into a man made tunnel in the water wasn't scary?

I don't think coasters will ever go beyond 400ft - reason: physics.

500 ft tall coaster would have the same max speed as a 400 footer. Or something like that... damn terminal velocity!

I don't understand how this would keep a 500 footer from happening. If it does go the same speed as a 400 footer, just don't take the second hill up any higher. Then you have an extra 100 feet if freefall :)

Haha! Isn't that what they said in the Raptor promo video? Get over to GTTP and Check out the Promo for it. It does say that... I think the closest thing to this was a comment Jeff made on GTTP I think... something to the effect of, "This new ride will make the world stand up and take notice.... again...." Maybe you confused them?
