The problem with going taller and faster isn't technology any more, really. It's space and money. The biggest problem with coasters that big is how long they have to be. Face it, a 100mph coaster has to be twice as long as a 50mph coaster to have the same duration. And because of the speeds and the forces, turns and hills have to be MUCH bigger, using tons more space. You just can't have a compact 500ft coaster, and having a 100mph coaster that lasts more than a minute is tough. My main complaint with Millenium Force has to do with these trade-offs... it's too short, even though it has, what, a mile of track? So you start getting into problems of space, of money, and eventually of capacity.
I agree with you bat rider 100%
A fun ride over a "most" ride any day. Look at the beastie compared to the son of beast.

I don't ride coasters to be scared, i ride them to have fun. Nobody ever talks about the funnest coasters.
Interesting because my wife and I were just talking about this. I haven't been "scared" on a coaster for years. I really miss that feeling of anxiety slowly climbing the lift him, the white knuckles from holding on, the fear in general. After you ride so many coasters (I'm only up to 101) that fear is gone and it just becomes "fun". I used to ride coasters to be scared, now I just enjoy riding them.
I miss that fear.

But parks also choose from the available technologies that the company provides....otherwise all rollercoasters today would be non-inverting, wooden creations.
I don't think SFMM knew about X 8 years ago....
In my opinion, we will see a tera coaster very soon, in the form of an Intamin Rocket. As far as chained, non-launch coasters go, I would be very surprised if we saw one in even 5 years. We didn't see the first giga until 1997 (STE) and the first chained came in 2000 (MF). But, before the giga generation, hypers popped up all over the place, and still are. Yet, we have less than 10 gigas in the world as it is. The only reason we will see a tera soon is because some parks are crazy enough to do it, and want the record (I. E. Cedar Point). If we reach 400 without a chain lift, why build one with a chain lift (or cable)? The gigacoaster is still no more than a myth in some areas, so it will be a long time before we need the tera. Probably, all of you are thinking cedar point will build a tera and then they'll start popping up all over the place, but it won't happen. Most parks have a height restriction, and it's just too expensive. The hyper is still very tall, and most parks would kill to get one, and for the bigger parks, there's the gigacoaster. But tera? that's just too high, and too costly.
