Holiday World Steel?

Could you imagine a steel coaster at Holiday World not a little one though. I have never been there so I dont know how it would destry the atmosphere. Also do they own anymore land other than what they have built on. Would they have room for another coaster? I was thinking that they might be able to get a small floorless or standup by B&M.

I have no been there either, but would imagine a large steel would ruin the atmosphere. HW strikes me as a small, family run park. So pretty much woodies. Which is what it is, right Paula?

Honestly I don't think they really need one, but if they did put one in, it would probably be a smaller one, not a hypercoaster..... not sure about the land situation though

If they would get anything, I bet it would be more like a wild mouse, or something that size/intensity.

Personally, I don't care if they ever do. The park is AMAZING right now. Of course, more wood wouldn't hurt.... :)

I don't know how much land Holiday World actually owns (Paula?), but their location is rural enough that I would think that additional land would be available cheaply. Of course they would still have to talk the farmer next door into selling.

I agree with Peabody though that the only steel coasters that would fit would be a mouse or maybe a mine train. I also suspect that Holiday World's capital budget wouldn't support a large steel coaster.

Many do say that Wildfire fits at SDC.

I always thought a B&M invert flying through that forest would just be too awesome. Even if it didn't have big inversions, or any inversions at all for that matter. Just the visuals of dodging the trees and the sensation of hugging the terrain at blazing speeds would be an incredible experience. A flyer wouldn't have the same effect since all you see is ground and sky, so an invert would be the best type of steel coaster to give the sensation of flying through that forest. Night rides would be out of this world!

It's nice to dream, but I doubt Holiday World could make that large of an investment to build a B&M. Even A cheap one would be around $10 mil.

That's right.....they are doing great at the moment. The "Giga kids" won't be impressed anytime soon, and there's a reason for that. Sure I could see a mouse or small looper in the next 5 years, but not a zillion-dollar B&M. HW isn't a record breaking park....even though ZOOMbabwe is quite impressive. Right now I have more than enough thrills there to keep me busy!

Model coasters and rides

I would like to see them build a runaway mine train tipe ride running through the woods.

The only steel that would fit perfectly into HW is B&M.

Raging Bull, Don't Fight It, Ride It

A new arrow mwgalooper would be pretty great, like Tennesee Tornado, it would provide some great visuals, a great ride, and not cost anywhere near what a Beemer does. To tell ya the truth I am getting tired of Beemers anyway and would love to see more arrow megaloopers around anyway.

Does CCI know how to make a bad coaster?

I used to think only wood would fit there, but I've since reconsidered. If Holiday World *were* to get some kind of steel coaster I'd place my money they'd build a winner.

2002 - the year of LoCoSuMo!!

I also think a nice runaway mine train kind of like Cedar Creek Mine Ride or Thunderation would look nice for Holiday World taking a journey through the woods also I would like to see another CCI since they already have to 2 good ones ;) than in a few years get a B&M inverted coaster.

I'd LOVE to see them get a kick-ass steel coaster! The more and more I look at Intamin's Goliath, the more I see that being PERFECT for a smaller park. It's not the tallest, longest, etc, but it packs a punch and is just a lot of fun! And with the parks that are installing some of these Intamin rides, I can only assume they are at least reasonable in price. I wonder how much an Intamin "Goliath" costs in comparison to an SLC even?

Yes, the Kochs own quite a bit of land. Currently, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari are on about 100 acres. That's about a third of the total land available.

Will's grandfather and father sure did think ahead!

It's my understanding that parks are either "big" or "small" ... in which case we're "small." I asked Tim O'Brien of Amusement Business where the cut-off is between the two sizes and he said one million in annual attendance.

But I still think of us as "medium." :)

Hey thanks for the replies. I have never been to Holiday World yet and probably going this year. What do you think will be expanding first Splashin Safari or Holiday world. Also are you going to try to expand all the way to the edge quickly or keep it fairly small and add on very little. I was also just thinking that a CCI dark ride like Lost coaster of superstition mountain would fit in there and could have a theme to any part of the park. And I see nothing wrong with small rides I love them as much as other coasters that are bigger and longer. I was just wondering if steel would ruin the atmosphere. I was thinking that maybe a small beemer like the early standups or a small floorless like batman the dark knight. I dont think it would ruin the atmoshphere if it was shrouded by woods and the only thing appearing was the lift hill and the first inversion.

I think if Holiday World were to go steel, a good mine train would be perfect. (Think CCMR or Trailblazer on steriods :) )
