SFA 2002?
Hey i was just wondering if anyone had any update on what sfa has plans for in 2002. I know they are probally getting lapbars for jokers jinx. Also last i heard they were getting a B@M stand up for 2002 because they did not get it in 2001 because of batwing. I am not sure if that is true,so please let me know if you guys got any info. Thanks.
There is no stand-up coaster anymore (unless they substitute it for another ride again). It was replaced by Batwing in the masterplan (see list at Screamscape), which must be approved by the local government. Repeat outloud. Last years announcement was made in February (did I mention I knew in October?). If there's anything big needing approval, it will probably be this month sometime. Keep your ears to the ground.

From what I've heard we should expect an announcement sometime in late January.Alot of sources have claimed to have spotted B&M track at or near the park but I havn't heard much lately what with all the news about X ,SFNE's new coaster etc.it seems that is all everyone is talking about these days but I'm sure we should have some news soon.After hearing about the problems down at SFM with all the trouble they are having getting approval of their proposed hyper I'm sure SFA has already gotten approval for whatever they plan to build otherwise they wouldn't have started clearing land.
To be honest, I would like to see some more themeing and a lot more shade landscape. For some reason I've spent sweltering summers at PKD and not been as horribly uncomfortable at the same or lesser temps at SFA. I don't know why. It would be nice to have more water fountains and some better food places as well. I'd like some nice landscaping in Gotham city as Joker's Jinx looks like it was stuck up in the middle of a field. And finally, it would be nice to get a small work horse kind of coaster, one that isn't so glamorous but fun and glitch free.

That's exactly what I'm thinking because from S:ROS Python 's station track does have that B&M look. so whoever posted that most likely is mistaking Python's track for a new ride.However other sources claim to have spotted green B&M track about 3 miles out from the park and we all know PKD isn't getting a B&M this year so SFA is the only logical place for it to go.
Maybe SFA recieved the track last year and of course hasn't built it yet.Batwing's track was stored in the employee parking lot which is unusual because usually coaster track is delivered and stored adjacent to the construction area.Remember the plans for 01 were changed after the stand up was designed so maybe SFA ordered the B&M and had the track stored out of site in the back of the park which is why Batwing's track was stored in the employee parking lot.SFA's 20th anniversary is this year and their website reads check back for information on our exciting 2002 season.I don't hardly find a ferris wheel all that exciting so my guess is for a new coaster.We will find out for sure on or around January 20th.
Actually I think the 2003 season will be SFA 20th anniversary. The park originally opened in 1973 as a drive through in your own auto safari park. That incarnation lasted only a few years before the park closed and reopened in 1980 as Wild World water park. I also don't think a Ferris Wheel is all that exciting either. What I would like to see are some more flat rides and a rest room down by Batwing/S:ROS area.
Well Supersonic, the reason temperatures feel so bad at SFA is because of Maryland's notorius humidity during the summer. If you've never heard a Marylander's favorite summer phrase, it's "It's not the heat, it's the humidity". When the air is moist, sweat can't evaporate off your body making you very uncomfortable. I second your request for a workhorse coaster, but that's what Roar, Wild One, and Mind Eraser are for right now.

Batwing Fan SFA, You are correct, Wild World did in fact open in 1982. I stand corrected. I had seen some shirts and jackets in one of the gift shops last season (2001) that had "SFA- Established 1973" on them. I inquired about this with one of the park managers and she told me that was to reflect when the property was actually developed into an amusment/themed area. Hard to believe its been 20 years since Wild World opened and almost 30 since there has been a theme park on that site. I guess time really does fly when you're having fun. Happy New Year all!

2) County approval of new rides or any major construction at SFA is a pretty public process. I doubt that anything has been approved without word getting out.
3) SFA public relations has said that any announcements would be made after the start of 2002.
4) Historically the date of county approval and the date of announcement are very close together.
5) SFA is located very near the major north south traffic attery on the east coast. It is also located near two major ports. Seeing track on a road nearby probably doesn't mean much.
Based on this I think that we can expect to hear late this month or in February what is coming. I will personally be surprised if it is a large coaster.
While it's expensive and doesn't do much in the advertisements, I'd sure like that new bathroom near Batwing and Superman.
