Most Overrated/Underrated coaster
I would like to hear everybody's opinions on what they think are the most overrated and most underrated coasters. For overrated I would have to go with Montu of busch Gardens Tampa, for some reason that ride just seemed boring to me, many people make it out to be an outstanding ride, but I strongly disagree. As for underrated, Vortex of Paramounts Kings island. The first drop is surprisingly breathtaking, and the rest of the ride includes 6 inversions which tickle the nerves of even the most daring coaster riders. And for some reason there is never any line for this ride and I never hear anyone talking about it.
I also agree about Vortex. The drops are great, especially towards the back, where there is actually airtime. The loops pull good G's, the corkscrews literally make my legs rise out of my seat like I'm about to go head over heels, and the same thing on the boomerang.
For overrated, I'll go back to 1990 when Disaster Transport had and hour wait all season long!

Overrated? High Roller at Stratosphere Tower, Las Vegas Nevada. I can have fun without being really high. That's the only good part about the ride is being high. I can't stand the side affects, it feels like the building is spinning.
Underrated? Woodstock's Express at Cedar Point, Sandusky Ohio. That ride doesn't take you up really high. It's in essence, the perfect roller coaster. It pleases the non coaster rider while giving a thrill to the enthusiasts. It also can accommodate kids.

Underrated? Woodstock's Express at Cedar Point, Sandusky Ohio. That ride doesn't take you up really high. It's in essence, the perfect roller coaster. It pleases the non coaster rider while giving a thrill to the enthusiasts. It also can accommodate kids.

Overrated: Thunderbolt and kennywood. Yeah, it's a good coaster, but the fact that it hits #1 on the coaster polls is rediculous...it's just not that good.
Underrated: dunno. I do have to agree with Woodstock. I rode that just so I could have all 14 coasters at CP, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was. Obviously, it's not up to the standards of the bigger rides, but for a "family coaster" it's pretty good. I haven't ridden Vortex in about 8 years, but when I did, I really, really liked it.

As far as being Overrated I would personally have to go with GOLIATH. I was so stoked about riding this coaster after I rode MF. What a HUGE disapointment. I wouldn't even put this coaster in my top 15 steel.

It has begun to gain some respect, but that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Raging BULL. RIDDLER'S REVENGE is the best standup coaster around. All those that scream MANTIS mustn't have made a trip to SFMM yet. IMOP this is SFMM best coaster.

Underrated would most definitely be the following two coasters VIPER (SFGAM) and RIDDLER'S REVENGE (SFMM). VIPER is an awesome woodie. The airtime achieved is great. It has begun to gain some respect, but that wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for Raging BULL. RIDDLER'S REVENGE is the best standup coaster around. All those that scream MANTIS mustn't have made a trip to SFMM yet. IMOP this is SFMM best coaster.

BMCOASTER, I have a feeling you are in the minority with your views on Goliath, but that's your opinion.
Overrated: Here I will agree with BMCOASTER slightly, and say Mantis as being overrated. The trim on first the drop really starts this thing out on the wrong foot. It (the trim) hits even harder than I expected. I would much rather feel 100% of a 125 foot drop than a trimmed drop of 137. I also lost my sunglasses due to roughness of the second half of the ride, no such problem with Riddler's.
Underrated: Well, this is not underrated, but it is definately underridden. Shivering Timbers. Only 37 members include the Timbers in their track record, compared to 306 for the Mean Streak. I know that CP is a mega-park, and MA is hard to get to, but more people NEED to ride this near perfect coaster.

Millennium Force, I dont see what is so great about this coaster. Shore it has a big huge drop but thats about it. Other coasters that are overated include Raptor, Magnum, Kumba, and Gwazi.

I could ride it for hours with out getting bored. Amazing airfilled intense drops (the second to last is my favorite, it just throws you our of your seat), best lateralls on any coaster, no seat dividers, lapbars dont go down to your lap :), and the Steel Phantom going through it's track doesnt hurt either. It is no doublty the king of coasters.

Overrated: Millennium Force Ok it's the biggest (oops second biggest) and has overbanked turns. I think that ROS at SFNE has a much better layout. Yes I've ridden both)
Overrated: Thunderbolt Sure its a good ride but #1. Compared to other coasters out there it's good but not superb.
Underrated: Cyclone at SFNE. This is one woodie to be reconed with (especially in the back seat). I thought this is one of the best wooden coaster I've ridden. The first drop rips you from the seat. Then it leads to a nasty fan turn ripping you from the seat again. The laterals slam you arond the car and your riding partner. It's just a true Out Of Control ride! :)

Overrated: Both OL:FOFs. One ride on each was enough for me.
Underrated: Zeus at Big Chief. This was my first CCI, and it did not disappoint! It's not very long, but it sure rips through the woods and has a great turnaround. And not a trim bake anywhere! Definitely one of my favorite wooden coasters and one that isn't talked about a lot.
I also think Exterminator is underrated. Here's another one that isn't the tallest/fastest anything, but it's a blast to ride!!

Overrated: Definetly Thunderbolt at Kennywood. "Shore", its fun, but not nearly a top ten woodie when compared to CCI's monsters. Also, im my opinion, MF has to be the one coaster that is impossible to overrate.

Underated: SFMW has a couple of great coasters by the names of Medusa and Roar. Both rides are so much fun. I also don't here a lot of talk about Stealth. Another not the highest or fastest but very fun!
Overrated: Not much I can think of. Thunderbold at KW SOUNDS overrated. I can think of a bunch of different coasters that look more fun than that.

Smoother than most Arrow's and certainly has some great inverted time over water.
Underriden: Shivering Timbers
Soggy is absolutely right to point out that this is one of the most unbelievable rides that most of you have not been on. I finally got on it this year at TimbersFest, and I just wish it could be closer to everyone.
