Worst Coaster Crash?

A girl was thrown from the Timber Wolf at World's of Fun. It was definitely rider error though. The girl was apparently climbing from seat to seat when she was thrown out.

I remember when this happened. My biggest question is this: What the hell was that girl doing that for in the first place? Did she not think that "hey, I might not oughta do this, it could be dangerous" or was her mind in "fog-mode" and she was just being a major dingle-berry? Sometimes I just sit back and shake my head at it all. :)

Am I the only one who remembers when SFGAm's Demon was stuck upside down for over 4 hours?!

There was once a great site somewhere on the net detailing just about every amusement park accident over the past 100 years or so. It had 2 lists, coasters and non-coasters. I hope it's still around; it's been over a year since I checked it out and I don't remember the address (I have looked for the site before but to no avail). Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'd love to be able to go back there; it had some great stuff on it...maybe I'm just really messed up or something, but I thought some of the listings were more funny than anything else...

I think what you're thinking of is Rides911 (http://members.aol.com/rides911/accidents.htm)

It's also listed in the "sites" section of Coasterbuzz.

The Giant Drop accident was at PGA, not SFGAm. A small child slipped out of the harness as the ride dropped, and died on impact. My friend was workin at the park the day it happened, he said it was one of the most terrible things he had ever seen.

Ya that's right staciman00. It was a 12 year old boy. Also juveniles were operating the ride. It said they escaped from juvenile detention center. They didn't check his harness.

Ghettocoaster....

The shooting at PC is indeed true. I remember the girl's name, age, and the articles in the newspaper. It happened on the first or second year that the waterpark was open. What I remember was that it was a firing range approximately a mile away and the stray bullet actually went through her and injured a younger boy as well. It was really sad. Just, FYI

A mother and daughter were killed on a crazy mouse ride in Wildwood a few years ago..

A girl died back in the 80's when she was thrown from the Lightning Loops at SFGAD. My sister's friend was dating the girl so it hit home rather hard since my sister knew her.

"I remember someone died on the Whizzer at PGA. The engine failed on the spiral part going up, and the train ended up going backwards while the other car was coming up the spiral.

Now this may be a stupid rumor, but I have heard people saying that PGA refuses to build on the site where the Whizzer once stood because it is haunted. That is the most prime, logical stretch of land in the park, and they have never used it again. Makes you wonder, huh? Hmm..."

Didn't they build a water ride where whizzer was?

The Lightnin Loops death was 8/16/81. The accidnet was well documented. The woman was thrown from the train. It is believed that her restraint may have not been properly latched.

It was VERY well documented. She stepped in and bent over to pull the harness up, or sat down and was ready to pull the harness up and over her, when they launched the train out. I think she and her boyfriend were like 19. A couple of the reports (tv/newspaper) I heard even said how she was screaming for her boyfriend, and how he tried to grab for her. She was somehow ran over and fell to the groud. It was the "top" lightning loop. I wonder what ever happened to the ride ops. But yeah, that's exactly where all our orange lap bars and harnesses come from.

Regarding the Mindbender accident...I remember reading that the trains utilized special wheels in order to cut down on the noise since the ride is in doors. I believe they were of a softer material than conventional Schwarz wheels, and that was found to be a factor in why the wheel assembly sheared off.

Didn't somebody die on The Giant Drop in SFGAm a long time ago? Could be an urban legend. God I hope it is.

Wasn't Giant Drop, and no one died. A kid broke his arm or something like that on The Edge.

This all makes me very grateful that we live in a time when safety is a top priority for new coasters!! It's just so sad that people try to look past guidelines(ie. height restrictions and such) in order to get on a ride...really sad indeed!

Moonshine, Penguins, and Coasters...my three favorite things!! *not necessarily in that order*

Im so glad I live in a safe place for coasters. As far as I know, Cedar Point only really had one death, and that was of an old guy having a hard attack or something after he got off the Magnum. I looked at that Mindbender picture and whoever said it gave them chills, it did me too. Thats really horrifying to know and it sound like the worst accident I've heard of, along with that one ride that most people died on the train, that happened in Iran or something. Does anyone have anymore info on that one?
Aside from most of the incidents everyone all ready mentioned, I can only remember (by virtue of age) the Wild Mouse stories in the 60's. There were so many of those, one about the Bob-Lo Wild Mouse in particular....

Regarding SFGAm two people did die on the Edge. The car came off the track. I was there that day. That was about 15 years ago.

No one died in that Edge accident.
