Worlds Largest Amusement Park - thoughts

Yeah.. that's what they need.. some bad ADR work.. hehehe

The P&D part was cut for time. They also cut the part about the graphics department.. I imagine the copy you can buy from Discovery Channel will have everything in it.

Including the pile of rolled up blueprints in P&D that the cameraman tugs at.. hehehe

now that they've done SFMM in the west and CP in the midwest it's time for some east coast action.I e-mailed discovery about it regarding the fact that nearly every program they have done is on CP or SFMM.how are other parks gonna get any attention if they keep showing the same two all the time?I thought that making of a coaster was pretty cool though.I also sent in a request that they create a discovery amusement channel(in response to an earlier topic)I'm still waiting for a reply from them.both shows were good enough to tapeso I don't have to wait for reruns.
I started watching the show about 15 minutes into it, but it still was really good! I'm with everyone else who thought the kid-at-the-end-of-the-Force-line bit was hilarious. I was totally amazed at how long that line was. Is that normal on most days? Man, would it ever suck to be at the end of that line. Knowing me I would see the line and think, "It's probably for a burger and fries" and continue walking to the Millennium Force entrance and then realize that the line started way back at the "Fry Line".

In conclusion, Cedar Point is a whole lot bigger than my park.

I loved the "Making a Coaster" show, but WLAP wasn't really good at all imo. Honestly, it was like a 1 hour commercial for Cedar Point, and people that are deciding whether or not to go there don't really care about the employee washing machines, or the parks high quality restrooms, or how many garbage cans they have. Who is thinking, "Hmm, SFWoA has less garbage cans than Cedar Point, I think I'll go to the Point!" No one is, and thats why I think they should've focused more on the rides/shows/eating areas.
Regarding the "3-hours to Millennium Force"...

Judging by how quickly people were marching through the maze, my guess is that it was shot as the ride was opening up in the morning. Notice that the line did not extend through the temporary queues behind the lockers, for instance. That guy probably had about a 70-minute wait if the ride was running all three trains.

But the ride did have 3.5-hour waits on Opening Day last season, and that does make for better television than to point out that the line stretches all the way back to Frontiertown only because the queue was just opened a few minutes earlier.

LOL,

My letter to Discovery was nice. I thought both shows we're great, and I told them this. The little trivia facts at the bottom of the screen during the Cedar Point show we're cool, and that bit with the kid who had to wait 3.5 hours for MF was the best. For those who didn't see it, the camera walked from the front entrance of MF where the wait was currently 1 hour, they wern't using the whole queue, it must have been the morning. So they walk all the way down Frontier Trail writing in how long the wait is from this point. They went under the tunnel and kept going until they reached the end of the line and this little kid who was last. They put an arrow on him and wrote 3.5 hour wait, LOL.

Now, what many of you fail to realize in me asking for a front seat POV is that it's not the only footage of the ride you would get. They often show the ride many times with the people on it before going for a full ride. It is during this full ride that I want a front seat POV, or to have split screens. Hey, if they split the screen into 4 sections with a front, person screaming, back, and a helmet cam, then everyone will be happy.

They're going to need a helmet cam for X.

I watched 10 minutes of the show. It was 10 minutes of completely worthless time, truth be told, I want coasters, not daily operation.

Steel Force+ me= floating airtime!
Finally, somebody on a coaster show gave props to Mamba.

Then go ride one! ;)

It was a really cool show. Very well put together. I can't wait to go.

As for the inspection part, I think that they don't actually inspect every square inch of the ride every day. I think there are things they inspect daily, weekly, and monthly.

Hey, was that Jeff at the end? Anyone?

Yeeee Haaawwww!
Will this be re-airing anytime soon? I was out, and based on (most) people's opinions it was a great show, I'd really like to see it.
I liked how they showed the bugs hitting that ride op in the face when he was riding Millennium Force. :)

Did you guys catch the Fascination building? I forgot how it looked, but seeing it again was pretty cool! It looks like something you would see in Las Vegas.

Looking at the control panel on Millenium Force...
It has the same touch screen panel that exists on Imax Ridefilm Simulators control panels. I thought that was amazing since Ive used that before.

"ok everyone go ahead and pull down on your shoulder restraint so you feel nice and stuck!"
Also Vegas is less flashy than you think. Most casinos have gotten rid of lighting like that. It sux to live here!

Oh, I know...I'm just saying, the first thing that came to mind was Vegas.

That's a bit contradictory. On one hand you're saying it's a commercial, then you're saying it isn't doing anything to sell the park. No one ever said the show was supposed to sell the park. While the rides are certainly diverse and many of them are outstanding, it's still an amusement park and people know what to expect: rides, shows, food, etc. Concentrating only on those things would have made it a commercial. That would have been a pretty bad show.

Straigh-through POV isn't good TV because long periods of time without new shots are dull. If you've ever watched a home movie of anything, you know what I'm talking about. It's the reason that news anchors change cameras between stories. In the case of POV, switching to the reverse angle gives you a better appreciation of what the riders are feeling (since you can't feel it), indicated by both their expressions and the relation of the car to the passing scenery.

Um, just for the record, I cared about the employee washing machines, the high quality restroms, and how much garbage cans they have!

Someone had to say it.

I totally agree with you. SFWoA: take note!

Exactly. When our group did the "Running of the Bulls" thing (although we were about a half and hour behind the real running, so we just walked anyway), we ended up much farther down the trail and still had about a 70-minute wait.

But hey. "This kid has to wait 3 1/2 hours!" is much funnier than "This kid has to wait 70 minutes!" ;)

Thank goodness! I really really really want to ride it...but I really really really don't want to wait that long.

Yah...this documentary could have easily been 2-3 hours long. They could have talked about landscaping, sound department (neat stuff if you've ever been inside one), games, HVAC, HR, board meeting, painting, costumed folks, etc...

So hey, am I crazy or was that Jeff at the end?
