Why did PKI do this?

I say that Millennium Force and Son of Beast will both be ridden a lot as well as talked about. Personally, I like CP and PKI the same. it all depends on what mood I'm in. If I have a craving for The Beast or the Outer Limits, I go to PKI. If I want to go on something that will leave my linens a little more soiled like the Magnum or the Raptor, I go to CP. They are both awesome.
Just go to the park that has the type of coasters that you want to ride. Follow the craving!!!

Coast on-- coasterbuff--jc :)
I think they said this mabey, because if it would of came out, before mf. It would of actually been a documented record. If only for a few weeks it still is. Hers a sorta the same point. Goliath is now the highest fastest coaster in the US. And is named that for now, even on adds it has. Intill It feels the Force. Which means Goliath wont hold the records for long either. *** This post was edited by Ice838 on 4/20/2000. ***
TO ME JUST BEING AT PKI MAKES ME HAPPY .

It is amazing to me that PKI keeps finding it necessary to even try to "compete" against CP for records. They are 2 completely different parks-
different "themes"-I definitely do not think of a thrill park when I think of PKI. I too have emailed PKI on several occasions and have recieved no reply.
I will definitely be going to PKI this year to check out SOB-
but would not if it wasnt for that
PKI is clean and fun
but boring-have gone there over 100x in 20 years.
PKI is 56 minutes one way for me
CP is 2.75 one way for me
I went to CP 15x last year
PKI-none
I just prefer CP!!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight?
Here we go again. I understand the need to compare parks. But like you said, the parks offer two completeley difference experiences. So it gets a little silly comparing apples and oranges, it's all a matter of taste.
It sounds like the Cedar Point peeps are worried about the competition:).
The two parks do compete for the same markets in central Ohio and bring comparisions on themselves. I just think one park does a better overall job. A much better one at that. Reguardless of what they are trying to offer.
Just like Riverbeast said, the people in Ohio are spoiled. You have so many parks in that state it is actually ridiculous. There are some states in this country who dont have any. Think about that the next time you start bashing parks in your homestate of Ohio. Also, you have bragging rights right now but in the future that will change. What comes around goes around.
I have to agree with Riverbeast. The 2 parks offer completely different experiences. I spend the day at CP riding rides. I spend the the day at PKI watching them from the queue lines. I have not been to PKI in 2 years. I am hoping to go this year and ride SOB, however I also know that I will be standing in line the whole day for 1 ride.

Yes, our amusement parks are exactly the reason I haven't moved somewhere better like Portland, Oregon!

When I was PKI last year, I found the lines pretty managable. My family and I went on a Monday and Tuesday in June. Monday, we arrived at the park after 4 to take advantage of the day and a half pass. The lines were a breeze! The longest wait was for Face/Off which was an hour and a half. That's not bad for a ride that is brand new and only runs one train. Granted this year, it'd best be a lot shorter, or I won't wait. The last half hour of the day was fast and furious as my brother and I tackled 4 coasters: The Beast, Vortex, Top Gun, The Racer, and OL: FoF. Not to damn bad for only having 1/2 hour to traverse the entire park. hehe Tuesday was a different story though. We went early in the day and the lines were longer, but still nothing more than 20 minutes (save for Face/Off of course). Again at the end of the night, we did our 4 coaster run through and had a blast. Sure there are no instant walk-on's like Corkscrew or Gemini at CP, but overall, I felt that a 20 minute wait for most rides is more than adequate and acceptable.
Now can someone please tell me why it took 1/2 hour to get a frickin burger and fries?! Good Lord the service people are slow! hehee
JJ
Amen, to that burger comment!

In the last 10 years, I have been to 16 different Parks (that's probably not a lot in most of your books, but...). Busch Gardens (both), SFGA, Magic Mountain, Astroworld, Geauga (SFOH), Disney, PKI, Great America (Gurnee, ILL) etc...but they do not compare to CP, not in the least. The staff pushes you through lines (they are hungover college students with smiles), it's cleaner and the rides and atmosphere is impecable. There is no comparison, no mood to follow, no competition...just the POINT! That's it! If you had $200 to spend and one day to do it at any amusement park in the world, ask yourself, where would you do it at???
Spoiled, not really...jealous maybe (Riverbeast)...
What do you spend $200 dollars on?? Im lucky if I spend $50 bucks, including the ticket to get in.

I guess I must have gone to a different Cedar Point than the Woodster. I went to the one where Raptor is broken down and when it finally works you wait an hour and a half. Please tell me where I can find the Cedar Point you talked about.

2368.9 miles from Cedar Point
This guy talks like he's stating fact. Yours is just an opinion just like everyone else. Acually, I'm jealous of those who live near IOA, that's where my $200 would go...

When I road trip to a park that I can't get in to with my existing Cedar Fair, Six Flags or Paramount passes, it's not unusual for me to drop $200 for my fiancee and I. Keep in mind that I have the no holds barred approach to vacationing and the disposable income to do it. On average, you're looking at $70 or more for two admissions, $40 for food (if you're careful), $40 for souveniers, $5 or more for parking, $20 to $40 in gas (more if you're flying), rental car if you're flying, food to and from the park, a hotel if you're staying overnight. I'm planning to visit PKD and BGW in June and have budgeted about $600 for that trip from Cleveland (flying in to Baltimore, Washington, Richmond or something, depending on flight prices).

Okay trip expenses I understand, Hotels can be pricey thats why I camped near CP. See, I maybe buy a hot dog and a souvenir cup and thats it. By the way the Power Tower cup is cool but not enough drink in it.

Ok,OK, here I go. As a Ohio resident and coaster freak, I am very glad I live here. I visited PKI last summer for my first visit that I remember. The coasters sucked!(sorry) I mean really they were terribly rough and bumpy. King Cobra, Outter Limits, Face/Off and many other rides were closed down most of the day but me(determined) I kept watching and got on while they were open. I have been to Cedar Point many times and have not once seen a ride shut down(excluding rain delays). They are both very clean parks but I don't understand how there is any compettition in the rides. Now about this we have 14 they have 13, they lied bussiness. Lets take a look:
#1. Racer-forward (wood)
#2. Racer-backward (wood)
#3. Vortex (steel)
#4. King Cobra (steel)
#5. Outter Limits: Flight of Fear (steel)
#6. Beast (wood)
#7. Beastie (kiddie-wood)
#8. Son of Beast (wood)
#9. Top Gun (steel)
#10. Scooby's Ghoaster Coaster (kiddie-steel
#11. Adventure Express (wood)
#12. Face/Off (steel)
#13. Top Cat's Taxi Jam (kiddie-steel)

I understand counting the Racer as 2. It is 2 different rides. But then shouldnt Cedar Point count Power Tower as 2? I think those kiddie coasters and half coasters(face/off) shouldnt even count, CP in my mind has 12 coasters PKI has 9 maybe 9 1/2. I have e-mailed PKI about the tie rollercoaster thing. Yes it is misleading but I do recall that on either their site or a brochure, in small print it says as of a date before MF was announced. Warning for anyone going to PKI i heard they expect a 6hr. wait for SOB. So everyone is entitled to their favorite park, and yes we are very lucky to have so many great ones around, but I love Cedar Point!
HOW ABOUT THAT I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY IDID NOT KNOW POWER TOWER WAS A COASTER. MAYBE IT IS AT CP
