Who voted no to a B&M flyer at their park?

Now, would I *mind* a B&M flyer @ SFA (assuming that it doesnt take away from other possible additions)? No I wouldnt mind one. I wouldnt *mind* if someone gave me a Hyundai Accent, but I damn sure dont *want* one.

Jeremy, that's probably the funniest thing (and perhaps most intelligent thing) I have read here in awhile... just thought I'd point that out!

-Rob, who is going against most of the thinking in this topic and is stating that he would love to see a B&M flyer in NJ or PA

Well considering the first US installation is going into a "Six Flags" park, that very much increases the chance of one being built near me, which is why I voted yes. We may not have a choice one way or another. ;)

My other car is now an Arrow X4D!

LOL!

This post was made just to spark arguements...what a surprise :P

BTW....I think I know why the B&Ms are so repetitive...its a proven design that the general public enjoys. Oonly coaster nuts people that travel all over will complain about stuff like that.

I voted to wait and see what its like....which I think is smarter than saying yes to something that hasnt been ridden yet.

Well, my personal take on the B&M flyer is like most of yours - while I believe the B&M flyer would be superior to Vekoma's (and this is based on pure speculation only), I too find riding in the face-down position to be awkward and *most* uncomfortable. My experience on X-Flight, Six Flag Worlds of Adventure's flying "death trap," as I like to call it, was painful. After getting off the coaster, I spent the next thirty minutes quietly trying to differentiate whether the strange feeling in my abdomen was due to uncomfortable restraints or colitis. Fortunately, it was the former.

Besides the comfort issue, there are plenty of good potential coasters out there. In the CCI interview (which was a pretty good interview), it is clear that you can take a standard laminate wood track, build it sixty feet high, and still dazzle the be-Jesus out of riders. You DONT need a mass of twisted steel to do this, you DONT need the latest in technology to do this, and you DONT need a cookie-cutter rollercoaster that pretty much the same at every blessed park in the country.

So, NO, I defiantly say to you. I don't want a B&M flyer just because somebody else has one. I want something that I can ride, and re-ride, and re-ride twenty years from now with the same joy I experienced the first time.

Rob:

I would love to see a B&M Flyer in PA or NJ. That way it would be close enough for me to try it easily. I just don't want one at SFA since I would rather have something different.

Unlike some other people I don't find the Vekoma flyers uncomfortable, and I have over 30 flights including 25 in 2 days. I've found that being tense the first time you try it can make it uncomfortable, but once you learn to relax it is very comfortable except maybe in the outside seats of the last 2 rows which are slightly less comfortable, but also have a little wilder ride.

Lots of enthusiasts seem to be complaining about a sameness amoung B&Ms. To some extent this is true, but are the Brandenberg Concertos bad because they sound like Bach? I must admit though that I've heard that Claude and Walter are at least a little frustrated that the parks seem to keep wanting the same thing. But from the park's viewpoint they want to follow a successful formula.

Jim: Not that I'm disagreeing with you but it seems a little *weird* that parks would ask for 'similar' rides from B&M when almost all of the Intamin rides are very different (new elements and such). Moreover, it seems to be limited to B&M loopers, as the 3 Stateside hypers are even fairly distinct.

but kumba, medusa (east) and kraken are about 15 ride-seconds away from being identical

I've always wondered why B&M doesn't attempt an Immelman or an Inclined Loop on one of their standard/floorless loopers, or at least mix up the elements with two vertical loops or zero-G rolls.
I love hypocritical coaster "enthusiasts" that bash rides they've never even ridden.

Rob,

Wildfire has an Immelman and that would be a standard looper.

Unless you've ridden one (nobody has) and HATED it, there is no reason to honestly NOT want one.

If no one has ever ridden a B&M flyer, and you say there is no reason one should not want a B&M flyer, then why were there 3 choices, one of them being No?
