When will the GP stop being so "steel"?

i think six flags great america is lucky enough to have 2 good wooden coasters. viper and american eagle. if only the park would maintain the eagle better, it could be one of the top racing coasters in the world.

I think thats horrible chewman, Its downright sick! why would you agree?! Riverside Cyclone is like the Crystal Beach Cyclone 2!!
The GP at CP is pretty bad.  I know that the GP liking steel more than wood is not a serious problem and woodies are here to stay.  Although, I have to say that every single person I have seen at CP hates wooden coasters.  "The Mean Streak snaps my neck and the Blue Streak is too small.  The Gemini is a great wooden coaster though!"  Argh.  This is really no big deal.

On the brighter side, people at King's Island love the Beast and Shivering Timbers, Raven, and the Legend are all very popular rides.  The GP prefers steel, just because of its size, and large manueverability.  Who doesn't like that?

Ever been to kennywood?  3 classic woodies all with lines, but not the lines of a SF park, thankfully.  I've never walked on to a single ride at KW.  I also waited 45min+ to ride viper and Eagle at SFGAm.

When I was at Silverwood last August, I was standing in line to Tremors (their new as of '99 CCI), and the couple in front of me kept making comments like "I wonder why they don't have any looping coasters besides the Corkscrew?  This coaster looks so old."  Now, I know that all the GP aren't as uninformed, however, there does seem to be a prevailing attitude that steel is a newer concept, hence it is more "with it" or "modern."  I guess we should thank God we can ride woodies when we want, with the exception of the really well known ones.  I have unfortunately never been able to walk on a ride like Ghostrider (my favorite) or Shivering Timbers.  Yet, I can go to the Puyallup fair and ride 'Coaster Thrill Ride' all day.  No one can stop me:)

The GP at Kennywood loves the three woodies mostly because of tradition. A back seat night ride on the Racer is ten times better than any ride SP ever gave

I have heard people say that the wooden coasters will fall apart.

Every time I come across a wooden coaster these days, it seems like theres never a line, not that I'm complaining. It just seems that whenever I talk about a good wooden coaster to non enthusiasts, I always get "wooden coasters suck" or "its too small/old".

Funny because whenever i'm over @ KBF, Ghostrider always has a line, most of te time i's over an hour long...

But, the thing is...how many other coasters do people have to ride at Knotts. Not too many...

I went to Knott's on a weekday last October and all but front rides were walk-ons for GR.  Could NOT believe it, that is one of my top 5 woodies - a GREAT ride...they have some steelies - Montezooma is cool for a few spins and Jaguar! is really unique and kinda quirky.  But I probably rode GR about 12-15 times that day...GREAT ride...top 3 woodies?  Look out Beast, he's gaining on you...

Ok, Wooden coasters are really, really fun. I prefer steel, but thats just my opinion, i have waited an hour+ for Viper, American Eagle, but the others have really short lines, now, i haven't gotten any air on Viper, maybe a little bit, but i dont understand the people that say that this ride is bursting with air, its a fun ride, one of my favorites, but after riding many steel coasters with airtime, i cant find any on Viper, if anyone can tell me where too look for it on the ride, and how much the ride has, I'd really appreciate it:)

"Thank you for challenging the Raging Bull. We hope you enjoy the rest of you're day, here at Six Flags Great America."

If you want air on a woddie, ride Villain...thats all I have too say.
I don't know joey, I still think the Big Dipper still holds the airtime title. Maybe just my imagination.

Ive heard that it does, unfortunatly, it was down the day I was there.
Like other people have stated before and from personal experiences...... I think that a lot of the GP thinks that woodies are old and rickety and feel very rough on a person's body. Some of my friends won't ride woodies because they "hurt too much." I disagree but they like the smoother and calmer feeling of a B&M hypercoaster like Apollo's Chariot, which provides a smooth ride with many thrills. Also, many people like to flip and go upside down which is an experience that woodies don't provide. (except SOB) I love both type of coasters- the old fashioned wood and the contemporary steel. They both provide different but equally great experiences. I'm glad a lot of the GP don't like woodies because that leaves shorter lines for people like me.

I dont mind the shorter lines, but that just means that the parks will keep building steel.
Uhh, al little of subject but what does GP stand for?  Anyways while on the subject, I agree that no new wodden rides are being built because of the new steel attractions.  Maybe that'll change after people ride an Intamin woodie>

Air on a woodie = Ghostrider.  I rode it yesterday in the back and I couldnt believe how long I was out of my seat on that drop after the turnaround.  Lap bar was loose....oh man that was great.
When they can figure out how to make wooden coasters not hurt as much as steel coasters, people will ride them more. Sorry, but I havent been on ONE good woodie that didnt involve a certain degree for pain. Contrast that to the dozens of pain-free good steelies I've ridden. I mean come on, compare the feeling of your body when you get off The Legend (my #1 coaster) to how you feel when you get off Raging Bull (my #2 coaster). No contest, woodies hurt.

Personally, I prefer woodies, but I understand the fear of wood. It looks unsafe and since it sways a lot, unsturdy. They are much more bumpier. And seem to just *slam* you around a lot. Whereas steel is graceful, looks secure, and performs aerobatics. Face it, steel is more alluring than wood!
