What's up with these topics?

Well I leave no mystery as to who I am. Just look at my profile.

As for the best one of these posts, how bout the X reopens posts a few days ago.

Talk about misleading.

Jeff...As long as we venting about pet peeves, how about deleting topics such as "what will the crowds be like on...?" I mean come on folks...its summer, we should all know typical crowd patterns and when its best to avoid crowds.

And I hate laziness. How about deleting posts like "What's the best way to get to [insert park here]?" If you can post to Coasterbuzz you have the internet, and there's this wonderful tool called MAPQUEST...check it out. Ya know, come to think of it, the internet can also be used to locate hotels near parks too. Funny, but I find most of the questions asked here can be easily answered in a quick search of the internet of other coaster sites such as rcdb.com.

OK...I feel better now that I've gotten that off my chest...thanks, Jeff ;-)

A very good point Mamoosh, but while you've brought it up, I'd like to see if any other Buzzers have had problems with Mapquest. Well, not necessarily problems, but notice of the fact that Mapquest will tell you it's going to take 11 hours to get somewhere that takes 8. Not just tell you that, but by the directions it gives you, it will make sure it does take that long. Sure, it's great for reference and for the actual maps, but for finding the best way to go somewhere, this thing couldn't even get me to the next town over. Sorry for my little rant there, and maybe Mapquest has just had problems with my specific destinations.

PS: This is not to attempt to disprove Moosh's post. I agree completely with it, but was going off-topic onto a mapquest rant :)

Moosh, I agree that there are readily available map/hotel sites available. However, for example, searches of three map sites for my trip from Columbus to SFGAm revealed three extremely different routes that varied in length from 7 hours to 9 hours. Had I only looked at Yahoo!, my trip would have been considerably longer. Sometimes it's nice to get a perspective from someone who's made the drive before.

Same with hotels. I posted around the time of SRM because I literally could not find a hotel with any availability.

Sometimes it isn't necessary to make these posts, but sometimes it is.

You might find this hard to believe, or perhaps you wouldn't when you consider we've all got lives, but I delete those topics every day, probably a couple dozen every week.

It came to a head on GTTP when this freak show posted a link to his site with his "crowd calendar." We proceeded to slam him like a Shaq dunk for his insanely stupid claim that you needed a calendar to predict such things.

It's simple... look at the hours they're open, consider the day of the week, holidays, weather and if school is in or out. Any idiot can make a reasonable guess based on these factors.

What really pisses me off though is that the people who post these stupid questions are already going to the park anyway, so what difference does it make?

No kidding! And if anyone goes to a major theme park during the summer, especially on a weekend, they have no right to complain about crowds.

I'll add one more to my list of pet peeves [which I assume you also delete]: "Will [insert coaster here] be open on my visit to [insert park here] on [insert date of visit here]?"

Grrrrr!!!

I dissagree about it being bad asking about directions and hotels on this site. I've used Mapquest before, but it doesn't show the construction that is rampant in the midwest this time of year. It is ALWAYS wrong when it gives you the time. I've tried getting directions to a park and then directions to the town the park is in and get two completely different routes and several hours difference in travel time.

Living in Columbus, OH I know that there are several buzzers in my area and that several of them have made road trips similar to ones I want to take. I find nothing wrong with asking their opinions on routes to take, because they've done it before and know the best way to go. Also, I'm sure everybody knows that hotels are available near just about any type of park. But most of the time people are asking for opinions on those hotels. Which are the nicest for the price, that is not something you can find out everywhere. We're asking like-minded people their opinions on places to stay while visiting a park, what's the harm. Is your time so valuable that it causes you great inconvenience to scroll down another inch on the page, get over it.

Here's something to consider for those planning trips: Get out your old Rand-McNally atlas and plan it yourself!

I think this is half the fun of going on a trip. For my trip next week to Hersheypark, I got a detailed gazzetteer from the library and, using only the maps, planned my drives to Hershey, side trips to Fallingwater and Baltimore, and the way back through Pittsburgh. It's pretty easy to estimate times.

That's generally what I do. I love maps and I love figuring out the different routes to take. BUT if I'm going to a completely new place and on a time constraint I'll ask someone who will know about construction or other obstacles that a road map is no help for, just to make sure. If I'm in no hurry I'll always just figure it out on my own and take the bumps in the road as the happen.

I use a combination of maps and mapquest. I know that mapquest estimates and routes can be off. I generally check the park's website for as much information I can gather to avoid any nasty suprises.

Most have hotel information as well, but nothing beats a good recommendation. My favorite story is going to New Jersey for a drag racing event and making a reservation for a Comfort Inn...large chain, never stayed at a bad one. Until that trip. Musty room, moldy bathroom, both mattresses had broken springs, and stained bedding. Not a pleasant thing to have to deal with after driving 14 hours and arriving after 1 am.

I'd rather post for a recommendation if I'm going somewhere I've never been before, especially if I won't be checking into the hotel until late when finding another hotel would be difficult.

Mark, Starcoaster, and Incidenalist:

I didn't mean to piss anyone off. Perhaps I didn't effectively communicate my pet peeve regarding posts asking for directions or hotel opinions. I totally understand that someone who lives near a park or has recently travelled there can give you a unique perspective on where to stay and how to get where you're going. And I totally understand that Mapquest and Yahoo Maps are far from accurate. That's not what bothers me at all.

What bothers me is people who ask questions that can easily be answered by getting up off one's rear and doing some research, or as Jeff said people who ask questions about crowds or ride closures as if we have a crysal ball.

I can easily skip a topic or scroll down past something that bothers me and I don't get as worked up about this as it may seem. Sorry again if I offended anyone ;-)

I understand your point, there are several lazy people around. But when I'm included in someone's pet peeves I get defensive (once I asked for directions). But with some explanations I think clearer heads always prevail. I always do the map work, but when travelling to a new place (especially large cities) I always like a little insider information on the driving situation. Those bright interstate highways that look so good on the maps aren't always the best ways to go.

Ya people should start putting more though into topic titles

Hey Moosh, got my Atlas at Target for $5.29, and it came with $5 of McDonalds gift certificates. Woo-hoo!

If you want great directions to a park join AAA. They did up a TripTik for me on my trip to SFStl and it showed where every construction area was on the way there. It was totally awesome. I plan on getting a TripTik for my CP trip in a few weeks just to get all the construction info. I already know how to get there but it is always nice to know what obstacles are going to be in my way.

So yeah...it's my first time posting on this site, but I like it already! *smiles* I think this is a site I'm going to get addicted to...and fast!! I'm heading to Cedar Point and SF WOA this weekend, and I'm sooooo excited! It makes work really hard to handle until then....

I can make....I know I can!! *winks*

Peace out!

AAA is very helpful. I use Trip Tik almost every time I go somewhere unfamiliar.
