What state has the best rollercoasters?

Being from central illinois I used to make about 2 trips to SFGam, now I make 1 trip there and 1 to Ohio to PKI and CP. The drive, hotel and everything are worth it. I'd have to say Ohio is #1. I want to get to California sometime soon to try the coasters there, I've never been there.
I'm bettin' my vacation this summer that Ohio's the best coaster state.

Hey Coastercrazy... I guess I'm not the only one on this site at 3AM. And I agree with you about CA. I'm seriously thinking of booking a flight in June to Los Angeles for a weekend at SFMM.

11 weeks and counting...
then the Millennium begins for me!
What am I blind? Of course Ohio is the coaster capital of the world. Yes, you guys are lucky. I live here in California which is great(Stealth, Medusa, Goliath, Ghostrider and Riddler's Revenge), but there is a serious shortage of quality wooden coasters, parks here are scared of by the threat of earthquakes. I think we do quite well in the steel department though.

Ohio and Pennnslyvania might have the best coasters now, BUT watch out for Florida!
I guess I would have to rank the states in this order:
1. Ohio
2. Cali
3. PA
4. Texas
5. FL
DISCLAIMER: this is based on pictures and hearsay, I have not visited ALL the parks in ALL these states.

Also, someone mentioned Illinois, IL only has the coasters at SFGAm so I dont think they are really in contention (even though RB and Viper are my #1 steelie and #1 woodie respectively).
PA for wood
Ohio for steel
Alaska for bobsleds

Parks hit for 2000!
PKD,BGW,Knoebels,Dorney,Hershey,PKI,HW,SFKK,SFA, Camden
I just mentioned Illinois because that's where I live. I travel to Ohio for the big thrills.
I live in NY.. there really isn't much in new york unless u drive upstate or out of state.

I guess it hassome strong points because i can reach some parks ina good amount of time.

Darien Lake-6 hours
Great Escape-5hours
Great Adventure-2 hours
Six Flags America=4 hours
kennywood-4 hours
hershey-3 hours

i would def. say NJ,Penn.,and Ohio have the best rollercoasters. Penn. def. has the woody market nailed. Lightning Racer, Wildcat,Comet(also at great escape), jak rabbit, thunderbolt, twister, and phoenix. These are all great woodies. NJ is great because it gets a lot of firsts at Great Adventure. Worlds first inverted coaster, floorless coaster, heartline twister coaster, one of the first big-time LIM coasters. Can't also forget the boardwalks of NJ where you;ll find another great coaster: Great White
Now I'm not going to say SFGAdv isnt a good place, I havent been there but will go sometime this summer (SFA season pass) but they do NOT have the world's first inverted coaster. SFGreat America in IL (former home park =]) has the 1st in Batman: The Ride (1992). SFGAdv only has a clone of the 1st. I think that you were right about every thing else though =)! lata....
about the heartline coaster. we said has the best coasters, not had at one time
Ultra twister was relocated in like 89' to astrowolrd
I have ridden most of the woodies in PA and they are very good. But I truly feel Ohio tops them in that category as well as steel. Ohio can match PA in the woodie dept coaster for coaster. Ohio also still has longer, faster, and larger woodies. And even when it comes to the old fashioned woodie, I feel Ohio prevails. I will take Villain, Racer(PKI), SOB, Beast, Meanstreak and Big Dipper over Thunderbolt, Phoenix, Racer(KW), Jack Rabbit, Thunderhawk, and Leap the Dips any day! I am not saying PA's woodies are bad. I just don't feel they can compare in any category including the old fashioned rough and tumble.
man roller coasters are awsome... i think the best state is ohio closly followed by PA and CAL.
Try Hersheypark's woodies and the Twister at Knoebel's. You missed those Lukedog. Those are the best woodies in the state.

at Hersheypark
I'd have to say overall, Ohio is the winner, I can't think of one American coaster record that's not in the buckeye state. But watch out for Kennywood's new coaster. I have a feeling it's going to put PA a bit higher on everyone's lists.
While there *are* quite a few records the state of Ohio does not hold, I think Ohio and California are probably the two winners with Florida in the running now with IOA. Pennsylvania is nice but I wouldn't give them at top 3 spot in this match. Definitely top 5 though. NJ? Reality check. Now you're just saying things because of proximity. Dumb.

I live in Ohio and I've been to SFO like 30 times (not all this year, but adding up when it was Geauga Lake) and Cedar Point 5 times. I like SFO because it is close and the lines are short. But don't get me wrong, CP is much better than SFO. It has much better coasters and is just better. I think my state, Ohio, is the best roller coaster place in the world. I want to go to PKI this year, but I doubt it.
