What is with the Cedar Fair love?

I enjoy the fact that having a coaster that looks like you threw up blueberries and Cheetohs automatically makes a park not bland. I won't return to Geauga Lake or Michigan's Adventure unless someone gives me a lot of reason to and those are the only two parks anywhere I can think of that I feel that way about. I'm sure a lot of people have a park or two that just was so bad they didn't have any desire to return. No chain is perfect by any means. When's the last time a good thing has been said about Paramount's Great America?

Oh yeah, I do know that Six Flags has taken away Cedar Fair's records... to show that Cedar Fair is not the boss of the amusement park industry. Good work Six Flags. Continue killing Cedar Point!
Oh, get a life. Nobody outside of the local markets (and enthusiasts) care about the records, and somehow more than 3 million people walk through the gates of Cedar Point every year when someone else builds something bigger/faster/taller or whatever. Killing my ass. Use a little common sense. Records don't mean anything. If they did, we wouldn't spend all of our time going to the middle of nowhere to ride Raven and Legend!

Jeff's right. I don't really think records mean anything to enthusiasts. Sure it's cool when a rollercoaster tops 300 feet, or 400 feet, or 500 feet but the excitement wheres off when coasters outdo other coasters in height by 20 or 30 feet.

Tall rides are awesome but I'm not about to go to SFgadv compared to CP just because KK is 40 feet taller than Dragster. It's just not worth it.

But it is worth it to go to SFGAdv and ride 3 of the top 50 coasters in the Amusement Today Golden Tickets... and clones of 2 others, plus some other coasters, flat rides, shows and oh yeah the FREE Safari (if you drive the car you arrived at the park in).

Just go midweek and enjoy your day. Just go with the flow and take in the park.

Of course waiting til next year might be a good idea since they are adding a new woodie. *** Edited 8/31/2005 4:02:50 PM UTC by dragonoffrost***

Enchanted Village/Wild Waves. I must have caught it on a bad day (either for the park or more likely for me) but it was just depressing. I haven't gone out of my way to return to MiA, either, but would make a stop next time I'm near Muskegon with some extra time on my hands.

Dragon, I didn't mean to say SFgadv wasn't a great place to go, but rather Kingda Ka wasn't a big enough reason to go. Overall I believe CP is a better park so a clone of TTD with 40 extra feet of height and a bunny hop isn't going to persuade me to go there.

I'm sure it's great. The zoo looks awesome, they have 4 beemers, the tallest and fastest coaster in the world, as well as awesome flat rides. But KK isn't much different from Dragster.

I agree that Kingda Ka isn't the reason to go to SFGAdv. Then again Dragster isn't the reason to go to CP. The reason to go to both is the same... The overall collection of rides. They each offer to their region the same basic idea. Lots of coasters and other things to do for a fun day. I could spend two consecutive days at each park and not get bored. I also have season passes to both chains and DO plan on renewing them next season since both chains provide the escape from the real world that they are meant to be. Then again I left Dollywood a few weeks ago and said I could park my ass here for a week and still have things to do. I can't say that for either CP or GAdv.

I've always had good experiences at Cedar Point. The staff has always acted professionally and the park is kept clean and well maintained. In my opinion, the best coasters are Magnum, Blue Streak, Raptor and Top Thrill Dragster. I am not overly fond of Millineum Force or the rest of the coasters there. I go every three years or so because it is quite a lot of walking and the lines are usually long. I have been there on slow days, when just about everything (except MF & TTD) was a walk on. It definatly made a big difference in my enjoying the park. I wouldn't say the park is overrated, maybe the coasters.

For a family, especially with teenaged children, it is the park I always recomend along with Busch Gardens Williamsburg to those who ask my opinion.

Knotts has always been a class act whenever I have visited.

Nice on Gonch. But, then, who really pays Kraxaxelridah any attention any more? It is the same old thing, reworded. 'Second Verse, same as the first'.

Haha. Same old thing, reworded? What same old thing? Please tell me. I've never ever made a single post bad mouthing Knott's before, so why don't you learn to think ahead first before you make personal insults.

Cedar Fair love? Comes from the shareholders! ;)

Chains all have their best parks, and their not-so-great parks....similarly, parks have great rides, and not-so-great rides. Seems silly to me to lump Cedar Fair into any one *category*, since their parks vary SO widely...

Personally, I thought WoF was the most *friendly* of the CF parks...and I loved that! CP has the best collection of steel in the chain, but typically I think I'd rather be at Knott's. MiA, well, the less said the better. But my point is that "grouping them all together" is something best left to the boardroom...;)

once people visit parks like holiday world, we get a perception of "wow, parks really can be run a lot better"... they kind of raise the bar at what we can "expect" IMO, and a lot of us wish all the parks we visit could be as great :)

As for cedar point, as many others have said, i do agree they have gone downhill as of late; I felt dorney was an OK park however (the 3 hours i speant on the hottest day of the year on the weekend -- but no lines 'cause everyone was in the waterpark)

-- alan j

sure cedar point isnt what it once was....but to say it is only a coaster park? dont look now, but CP is prolly the best rounded park behind PKI. Shows, kid areas, water rides, family rides, major flat rides, minor flat rides

and i dont know how we can put all CF parks together. Unlike SF or Buch, each CF park is in no way connected to any other parks. If Dorney has a good year, Knott's isnt going to get a coaster. The guy in charge of parking at Knotts proably knows no more about parking at CP than the guy in charge of it there

I don't know, I don't "love" Cedar Fair, but I did have good experiences at every one of their parks [except Geauga Lake, which I didn't hate but didn't find particularly good]. I've also been to PKI, PKD, and PCW. While I thought PKD could've been better, and PKI I didn't overly enjoy, I love PCW. However, I wouldn't say that the chain sucks because two of the three parks I've been to weren't overly great. I've only been to Six Flags Darien Lake [which I didn't like at all], however judging the rest of Six Flags based on that is stupid. Problem is, I tend to actually do that [well, coupled with all the terrible reviews I've read about the parks], and I'm a lot more skeptical about going to a Six Flags park now. However, that may be a blessing in disguise, since I have no expectations and then maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

But yeah, I like this topic, it has some stupid points to laugh at and then some good ones to think about. *** Edited 8/31/2005 11:07:02 PM UTC by grind your soul***

I'm pretty mad with myself for having read this entire thread. It's the same tired SF v. CF debate, with the same players.

The next time we do this, can somebody at least be inflammatory? or intelligent? or, I don't know, use proper spelling and puncuation? Just once?

Gracias.

Ew you didn't prove ANYTHING besides showcasing your inability to read something, comprehend it, and make an intelligent response to it. And help yourself really, and stop replying to me and talking about me like like you know me. I love how you pick me out and generalize me with the likes of BatwingSFA when I don't ever side with any of the Six Flags or Cedar Fair fannys. I gave my viewpoint and opinion about Knott's as a park under Cedar Fair's management has changed and you pull an immature act because you think I'm doing my "usual" whining or ranting. I made a well though out post about my opinions and you provoke a flame war with your witty personal remarks that contribute nothing to the thread. Get over yourself! :)

Not really. This thread started off with someone voicing his opinion about a park or two and made the poor choice, accidentally or not to generalize the whole park chain as a result. It's a select few of the members that decided to turn into a versus debate between Six Flags and Cedar Fair, God only knows how it happened again.

But does anybody else see the irony in this? Member posts opinionated thread about Six Flags parks being crap and generalizes the entire chain due to a few negative experiences. He doesn't get bagged on. On the flipside, Member does the same thing, except with Cedar Fair and he's stoned on and told he's being whiny and generalizing.

You know in 1999 on a visit to Coney Island I remarked that Disney could buy the amusement district there, not change a thing, and it would be a huge money maker due to the fact that there are so many Disney Fans(atics) that feel Disney could do no wrong...

Following the posts on this site, the same could be said of Cedar Fair!

Buzz Comments after the purchase:

"And I just loved the falling apart/needs major work theming of the park..."

Matthew, I completely and whole-heartedly agree with you about Knott's Berry Farm. But Cedar Point, you really have to visit, it's unlike anything you've experienced.

Not knowing "Matthew" I highly doubt that its unlike anything he's ever experienced.

Better then Love? Better then Sex? Better then Graduating College?

If you answered yes to any of the above replies, your either lying or in serious need of therapy.

With that said, Cedar Point has 3 kickass coasters, thats It, but a park like Kennywood has 7.

-Just the way i see it

/\ I'm sorry if I didn't specifiy that it's unlike any other PARK he has or will experience. But that's just the way I see it. :)

You read it way too literally and that wasn't the context I intended with that phrase. So I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.

Not a big deal, seriously though, Cedar Point isnt the end all be all of Amusement Parks.

For you maybe, and thats great.. but Id say its average at best. :) *** Edited 9/1/2005 3:17:04 AM UTC by SavageNation316***
