What is up with the IAAPA news ?

Jeff, thanks for taking your time (and I'm sure spending some $) to go there and provide us with those excellent interviews and info.  Many of us do realize that there wasn't much new at all there, and it's certainly not your fault.  I just thought you might want to know that there are plenty of us here that appreciate and recognize what you do for us and this site!

Jeff, you truly dissapoint me.  All friggin year you were hyping up IAAPA saying "You guys won't beleive what we have in store for you this year!  It's gonna be the best!"  But what the hell is this crap?!  Barely any photos!  That is pure bull!

And if YOU can produce the quality of interviews that Jeff came back with, at ANY other site, then go there. Anyone? Anyone?

There just wasn't that much new to see, and what was new, Jeff got. You want better pictures, pony up the cash and go yourself. What's that, you're barely 16 and can't? Then shut up and quit complaining -- you certainly can't do any better.

Thanks for all the coverage Jeff, there is just a small minority that think they somehow deserved more than they got, from a free site, nonetheless.

I guess some of you just don't seem to comprehend what "the same as last year" means. Taking the same pictures as last year would be rather trivial and a waste of bandwidth, don't you think so? I guess you can make asses of yourselves all you want but that's your choice.

Jeff,

Thanks for the coverage you were able to provide. I'm embarrassed by the attitude of some others here. A lack of new items to cover is in no way the fault of the reporter. We should all be appreciative of the time and money spent to bring us any coverage of anything here on Coasterbuzz.

SFGadv Please I'm begging for the Gyro Drop tower.

Looks like it's finally time for me to come out of my cave and make a post.

I really didn't follow CB's IAAPA coverage last year, so I don't really know how this year's compares to last year's, but I must say that I was quite impressed with the interviews Jeff got. Big deal if there weren't that many photos, especially if there wasn't that much new this year. I hope nobody interpreted "complete coverage" as Jeff taking pictures of every square foot of space used by IAAPA. Can't we just trust Jeff's coverage? I think he knows what he's doing.

Anyways, thanks a lot Jeff for the great coverage, I know I enjoyed it.

Ok, am I missing something, has the Stan interview been put up yet?

I didn't mind the lack of coverage as it practically was the same as last year.  From other sites I can tell they had basically the same stuff.

SC²...Launching To A Web Browser Near You In 2001...

I for one think that this year's IAAPA coverage has been more than sufficient.   With "complete coverage" Jeff made no guarantees, whether express or implied, that he would bring back photographs of every booth on the floor.  I am shocked that someone would accuse Jeff of lack of coverage.  I believe it was him who expounded on the fact that there will be 6 new S&S Vertigos next year, and him who covered Setpoint's Over the Top, and him who set up very informative interviews, especially with Arrow.  Pictures can be found on any other site.  And these pictures are pretty much the same as Jeff's IAAPA 2000 pictures.  However, nowhere so far have I found as good of interviews, or as good of insight as Jeff has provided us.  Please guys, Jeff doesn't owe us anything, and has gone way above and beyond what he promised to do.  He couldn't help the lack of material to cover.  Perhaps we should attack Bush for a lagging economy? Pointing fingers and whining won't get us anywhere.

Thank you Jeff for excellent coverage.

Yes Jeff thank you, if you other people want better coverage why don't you shut you 12-year old traps ask mommy and daddy for an advance in your allowence or something so YOU can go there. I thought it was great coverage, and I plan on attending the show next year.

I think interesting interviews with important industry people would make coverage a hell of a lot more "complete" than a bunch of pictures of things and people.  Jeff knows exactly what he is doing, and I for one will never question Jeff's opinion to what to put on HIS site.

I thought we would get complete coverage. We have not seen complete coverage. We did not even get an update on the 16th. and today is the last day of it !!
And what about the pictures ?  Last year there were a bunch of pics, but there no even 20 so far. And Will any more be posted ? and will there be any pics of  B&M's booth ? That is the entire reason I am keeping up with this convention, is to see pics of B&M's booth, and if they will have the trains for AIR on display ?
So Jeff, will there be any more pics posted up of the convention ?

Hey Jeff

i thought the coverage was fine for the show. Considering there was nothing much new really.

This is further shown by the fact that the Cliffs coaster was announced last year. Although i admit there were no stats at the time. Any ECC members should be able to back me up.

I guess everyones taking a break from 2000 where we got tons of prototypes

Yeah, the Cliff's thing has been going on forever, but it's finally "on." I happened to have been there when another park owner for a southwest park was there talking about perhaps moving to get away from local government issues. You never know... there could be more to talk about with that park in the coming year.

We got another update! Woo Hoo !!
Man O' Man...

I simply can't believe some of what I have been reading in this thread.  Forgive me in advance for ranting a bit but Jeff didn't have to go down there to begin with.  For those that were 'demanding more', how about going to cover the show for yourself?

I was also at the show to help cover it for a publication.  Now, I wasn't dissapointed in the slightest with the show because I haven't done one since 1997, but had a great time covering what I did. I didn't do any interviews like Jeff, but I did learned a LOT!! Every booth I went to was being occupied with business meetings........for what the show is supposed to do.  Those expecting the show to be of a " Let's go hang out with out Coaster Heroes" need not apply. This was a business show. If there were certain pictures some of you wanted, and didn't recieve.............TOUGH!

Jeff did what he could. Some people clearly aren't realizing what hard work Jeff did. It is difficult to set up interviews, or to get the latests pictures of a booth, mainly because business was being done.  At least he did offer us 'something'.  If he ever decided not to cover another IAAPA show, it wouldn't surprise me because some of the comments I have seen on here.

Jeff, in my opinion, just ignore those greedy folk that are of the "WANT! WANT! WANT!" way of thinking, and just realize that there are those that thank you for what you did.

I feel that most everyone else who said something "positive" about Jeff's coverage summed up what I would say. Jeff, I loved the interview with Fred Bolingbroke of Arrow Dynamics as well as all the others. I praise you for giving us so many quality interviews and pictures (pics from last year and this year). I could go on and on in telling you not to listen to the negative comments, but I think you handle it well.
Thanks again for the great IAAPA coverage. I still can't wait to go some year regardless of the boringness of it you describe at times. Hey, I even enjoy car shows and I don't even like cars that much.

Okay, time for a little "Lucifer Laywering" (TM) ;)

Okay, perhaps the original comments came off as a bit wanton and demanding, but there is some validity in the statements.

NOBODY *ASKED* Jeff to go down to the show and provide coverage. Jeff simply stated that this was something he was going to do. I do not recall there being a vote on the board on who the interviews were going to be with. They were interviews that Jeff chose to do.

Additionally, let's not get this twisted,, Jeff did not go to IAAPA "just for us". He did not put this out the interviews and such "just for us". As Jeff has said many times over, the most important thing for a website is CONTENT. CONTENT is what sets a website apart. These interviews are a part of that CONTENT that makes CoasterBuzz a little different than the majority of the other sites. Let us not believe that there was nothing in this for him. If he did this "all for us", then he would be a fool, a very kind-hearted fool, but a fool nonetheless. From the brief conversation I have had with the man, he does not seem like a fool at all.

Third, realize that the original comment here was made in ignorance. The poster simply did not realize all the intricracies of the show, nor were they aware of the events that transpired at the previous show. He expected more and didnt get it. When it was explained why more was not shown, he apoligized (THAT WAS POST NUMBER EIGHT!!!). It was even after that that the "crybaby" and "spolied jerk" comments began to fly.

(personal rant ahead)
I dunno, there is begining to be a little too much "moral superiority" floating around here as of late. A plethora of "looking down" on the younger folks, a feeling that people should be happy with what they have because they could have nothing at all. I'm sure all of us work hard at something where we are not appreciated as much as we like, but no one puts guns to our heads to do it. We do it because *we* get something out of it. IF you think that *everyone* is going to appreciate *everything* you do and never voice *displeasure*, then you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of rough disappointments. Simply put, Life's hard. GET OVER IT!
(end rant)

Anyway, I was pleased with what I read. Well, I'd have liked to have seen a pic of Fred B. from Arrow in case I run into him I could harass him for a job (joke ;). But it was more than I expected anyway. I just want to knock a few people off the "high horse".

You know, I totally forgot about getting a photo of Fred. I actually thought of it on the plane ride home. I did his interview prior to the show, whereas Stan I did at the show (it's coming, by the way).

Bolingbroke is a pretty amazing guy. He strikes me as very ambitious, and he appears to be a little younger than the average guy running a company. He gets very excited about the stuff that Arrow is doing. Sure, it's a business (as he said in his interview, that's the side of it he came up from), but he very solidly believes in what they're doing up there. I give the guy a lot of credit. I think X will get rave reviews, if it's even the slightest bit as good as he describes it.

Having attended two large trade shows (audio and printing), I can tell you that they're not terribly exciting. You walk around the floor once or twice and you've seen just about all there is to see. I can't imagine being at one for three days. The major objective is for the vendors to land contracts with the suppliers. I totally agree with Jeff that badgering some of the vendors for information (as I've also read) is in extremely bad taste, and may make it harder for some people to attend in the future.
