hmmm.. isn't that what I said too just in different words? lol!

Seriously though, that was the point I was trying to get at. Obviously Geauga Lake didn't have the potential either, like I mentioned, they had LESS attentendence then SFDL regardless of Akron/Cleveland.. so what is stopping SFDL from jacking up the attendance/revenues?

OK Dennis, I guess I'll just quit high school, kiss my parents goodbye, leave Denver, and move to Ohio.  Christ, think before you post.  That isn't exactly a tangible option for some people.

Aww Mustang, now YOU'RE missing the point.  The POINT is, you should congratulate "Captain Cool" Dennis for living in Ohio.  Funny how Jeff lives in Ohio too, but doesn't feel the need to rub it in that he lives alot closer to parks than the majority of us do.

Hey y'all!
Well, I have thought about this topic alot and i think I have even posted stuff about it. I used to be annoyed that SFSTL (my home park) wouldn't get the biggest/most stuff every year. Well, It doesn't really bother me that much any more. I have to just accept the fact that SFSTL will probably never be as big as SFMM, SFWOA, SFGAm, or SFGAdv. I even think it is kinda neat that SFSTL isn't really all that well-known to out-of-towners. It's kinda "mysterious", so to speak. LOL About the "Why does Six Flags put more money in ____park instead of ____park", well, I would imagine, like I think several others have said, that is is related to the Population of a nearby Metro Area, as well as other Parks in the area. For example, SFMM has competition and a very large population in the area. SFWOA has competition and large population. SFGADV is near the largest city in the US. And SFGAm is between Chicago and Milwaukee, which I would imagine would be a very large metro area. But, SFGAm seems to have very little competition. The only competition I can think of at the moment is Santa's Village. Anyways, that is my take on the topic. And Dennis, please stop bragging about all of your home parks or whatever. My home park is SFSTL and I think it is fabulous! And I LOVE the St. Louis area! I don't think I would move away from here just because SFSTL doesn't have everything that SFWOA or CP does. But, how many parks have a ride like Mr. Freeze? Ok, so there are a few, but how many of them are at CP or SFWOA? My point exactly. What I'm saying is, every park has things that make it special, and I think we should just be happy with that. Gee, I'm starting to sound like Oprah! lol ;-)

Aaron

My post would sound just like Aaron's, only substitute SFSL with SFEG.

Hey PT300
I went to SFEG about a month and a half ago, and I had a great time! I think SFEG isn't appreciated the way it should be. I thought the selection of flats was great, whereas SFSTL's is lacking a little. But hopefully that will change in 02. ;-)

Obviously the parks like SFMM, SFGam, and SFGAdv have the big cities of LA, Chicago, and NYC/Philadelphia respectively nearby to draw the huge crowds to them.  They have a bigger target and to keep all those people coming back each year, they need to add new rides.  The smaller Six Flags parks obviously don't have as big a target to draw in.  You have to expect that those parks aren't going to get a new coaster or major attraction every other year or less.  But in some cases...the park just doesn't have enough room for a new coaster like SFEG and SFKK.  If they can prove that they draw larger crowds when a new ride is given to them, then they will be rewarded more often, if not, they won't get rides as much.  It's the only fair way to work it in business.

This following excerpt was taken from a phot-copied article that came in the Cedar Fair L.P. 2000 Annual Report. Key things to know is the Derrough is the general manager of Worlds of Fun amusement park and this article was taken from www.kestar.com/item/pages/business.pat.business/37747t7b.529.html as the page is labeled.

"...Cedar Point, the company's flagship park, this year boasts the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster. The 310-foot high Millennium Force drops riders 300 feet down an 80-degree incline at 92 miles per hour.

This summer Cedar Fair will debut what it says is the tallest and steepest water ride in the world, at Knott's Berry Farm. The Perilous Plunge will drop riders in boats 115 feet down a 75 degree incline.

Such rides probably aren't in the future for Worlds of Fun. Kansas City is a smaller market than Los Angeles or Cedar Point's Cleveland-Toledo-Detriot region, Derrough said, and the economic realities of return on investment dictate Worlds of Fun will probably always have smaller rides."

Hey Dennis, move to Denver or Louisville then talk!  Meathead!  (In the great words of Archie Bunker) :)
duh........y would u wanna expand a park that doesnt get much money. they'd just lose money by putting rides in a park no one is gonna show up to. also, they might not have enough space to exand these parks. even if there is land around the parks, doesn't exactly mean that they own the land, can build on the land, or buy the land. plus if it's low enough income, they don't have the money to buy new land. the subject started should have never been in question! it's obvious y they do what they do.
SFDL is near 7 cities two of which are big so the attendance potential is there . Expansion wise they own the most land 2nd to SFGADV in the whole chain. So the potential for expanding is there but the idiots at SF headquarters haven't figured out that SFDL is near 7 cities and two who are major metropolitan centers (Buffalo,Toronto). We all know that SFDL has the money to expand because they haven't expanded in three years. Maybee someday SFDL will expand when tey look at a map and actually find where SFDL is and how close SFDL actually is to these centers of population.

SFDL is near tourism too.  Niagra falls, toronto, people go to rochester to see kodak and other various museums, the finger lakes aren't far away too and areas near victor/canandaigua NY were called "the fastest expanding areas in all of new york" in the new york census in 2000 which are only about an hour/ hour and a half  away.(Pretty much all the people around there including me consider sfdl the best park in the reigon).

I pray that I will never see a Six Flags Conneaut Lake

SFAW is right smack-dab in Houston! Across from the Reliant Astrodome and Reliant Stadium. Well, they are probably going to get some shots of the park when the Superbowl comes so the park will probably paint the rides at least.
these places may have potential of being good parks, but would u wanna risk millions of dollars building new things and all that to attract people? what if not many more people attend? that would be a great disaster for the sf company. they can't lose any money as it is now. they aren't gonna do anything risky with money or anything. they wanna wait for a sure thing. i know i wouldn't wanna expand a place that i'm not sure is gonna flourish. And a place by tourist attractions kinda diminishes the attendance to the park. all the people go there to see the attractions, not sf. Many people would rather see the niagra falls instead of goin to six flags cause it's a cheaper trip. You see my point now?

Don't get me wrong.  Elitch's has done a good job IMO using what little land they have, and it is a nice park overall.  Its just that going to the same place for three years without them getting any new rides gets dull.

I'm glad you all think SFDL has this huge population area...but answer me this....Does is have the 20 million people of the NYC Metro, the 16 million people of the LA Metro, or the 12 million people of the Chicago and Milwaukee Metro areas all within an hour or so of the park? NO!  There may be some decent sized cities near...but there are no other cities or metros that even compare to those top 3 right now...and its not going to change...and I don't think it will change Six Flag's decisions on where it would be most effective to have a new ride.
Good call SFGRAMboy20! Some people just can't get such a simple thing into their thick heads. It must be a disease. It's like if their homepark doesn't get a new coaster at least every other year, they show symtoms of mad cow disease or something...
Add up the Population of Toronto, Hamilton, Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Nigra Falls, The Entire Finger Lakes Region, Baldwinsville, Fulton, Oswego, Watertown, Utica, Rome. SFDL Definetly has the potential for high attendance levels for more than one reason which is that there are NO amusement parks in the SYR area. Rochester thats a different story. But Rochesters theme park SeaBreeze Get's About half of what SFDL gets attendance wise and they've been expanding everey year. Plus they don't have anything near the amount of $$$$ SFDL has made over the pas three years
