What is it with the hatred of Arrow Roller coasters?

Well said Tina.

Now back to the arguments :)

No, Walt took my fun!! Boo Walt!! *throws poo*
You don't need to debate horsecollars to gripe about Arrow's engineering--or lack thereof--in spots.

What about VF's Excalibur?

Had it been designed well in the first place, they wouldn't have had to...

1) Remove the second hill altogether
2) Completely demolish / rebuild the coaster from the bottom of the drop to the top of hill #2 (originally #3 before #2 got axed) out of 'Corkscrew' track and steel
3) Tack on the longest first drop brake run known to man

...just to make it tolerable.

WoS...I was Redman long before that hack of a rapper ever was on the scene.

My BBS (that's before the internet as we now know it, for those of you who don't know) handle/nickname was Redman back in 1988. It refers to my hair color.

CoastaPlaya,

Do you have pictures of the hill that was removed from Excalibur? Using the pictures from RCDB, I can't figure out where a second hill would have been.

I have to say for me, most arrows have been enjoyable, i dont mind so much head smashing and all that, if i can get off and still function properly then im good to go. As far as arrow coasters, i have a fondness for them as corkscrew at gl was my first. Then maggie as one of my top 2. So i like to think that with everyone saying to each their own thats fine with me, give me an arrow and let me be.

As far as psycho hockey players go he gives happy gilmore a bad name. Hes just hockey is back eh?

Resident Arrow Dynamics Whore

I just found another Arrow Looper, Carolina Cyclone. I would like to ride that coaster, and has anyone been on that coaster? If yeah, tell how good it is. And how fast does it go? The same for Desperado in Vegas.

^Actually, CC is not that bad. It's smoother than a lot of other old Arrows which is RARE! The last time I was at Carowinds it was running very well.

As far as Despie, I didn't find it to be as horrible as some claimed it was. It was very intense and borderline *too* rough, but I liked it.

I could ride both again.

Manhattan Express on the other hand.........no way. OUCH!

Darn, I missed making fun of an idiot noob. Good Job RM & Brett! I slept thru that entire thing.

Hey, the express is good ride. I don't know when you rode it, but I rode this summer, and it was smooth. I loved that ride, especially the drops. Front seat at night baby! Awesome!

You rode it this summer at it was smooth? How many more Long Island Ice Teas did you have than what I did?

I rode front seat at nite, and aside from the loop and twist and dive, it was terrible. I'll never pay that much to ride it again.

CKrazy: Right after the first drop. Think second hill on CP's Corkscrew before the vertical loop.

^LOL! Clint.

I think I was already half-buzzed from the 99 cent margaritas by the time I got on Manhattan Express! I know it has it's fans, which is cool. I won't be riding it again, though, unless I am with a newbie (and fully buzzed!)

The first thing I AM going to do when I get back to Vegas is Insanity. We almost got to ride it......almost. :-)

Now that Viper is gone, the only place I can get a Twist-n-dive is ME....and the rest of the ride (and the *price*), just makes for a bad combo....when will B&M finally build a ride with that element?

LOL, they'll CALL it something else, but we'll know.... ;)

Back to Arrow...With PowderKeg and Tennessee Tornado, and perhaps to some degree X, Arrow and S&S Arrow proved they CAN do what it takes to be successful....they just prived it too late for "The" Arrow Dynamics to survive.

One of the smoothest inverting Arrows (with corkscrews) I've ridden was the one at Libertyland.....looked horrible, rode REALLY well. Wish BGT had that instead of Python...

You want to ride the cream of the Arrow crop? Go to BGW!

P.S. I love the mine rides....is S&S/Arrow going to sell ANY of the mine rides?

well, desperado opened in 94, so it's not an old arrow, it's a modern one.

and manhattan express is a TOGO! This is an Arrow Discussion!

The reason why so many people hate Arrow is that they were spoiled by smooth (B&M) rides that many of us older coaster fans didn't have to enjoy back in the 70-80s when all there was Arrow and Schwarzkopf rides around. Back then we did enjoy the intensity of the rides and not the smoothness of them. Heck you would consider Schwarzkopf the B&M of the 70-80s. Apparently we have lost that touch of intensity, when a mess of new smoother B&M and Intamins came along.

Also I know of no wooden coaster with shoulder restraints unless your talking about Ultimate at Light Water Valley in Ripon, North Yorkshire UK. This coaster is a minetrain style ride on a wooden structure and tubular steel track. When it opened in 1991 it had Shoulder Restraints. But because it was on Tubular Steel Track it issn't a woodie except for the structure. The RCDB Entry for this ride can be found at http://www.rcdb.com/id779.htm .

If it has tubular steel track, it wouldn't be considered a wooden coaster. (Same with CCMR and Gemini @ CP, among a whole host of others).

Wow! So the flat piece of track in the RCDB picture above was where a CP Corkscrew-type hill was? I can see why that was removed. Did it drop back to ground level, or did it connect to the third (now second) hill in a different manner?

sawblade.. I know it's a technicality, but there's no "except" to it. tublar steel track makes it a steel coaster. Period. Calling it a "woodie" is like calling a big rig a "car". Yeah, it has an engine and wheels, but it's not a car. It's a truck.
