With all the talk about Six Flag's new family focus, I have yet to see a new family attraction built on Sharpie's watch, and I don't expect to. I think he's full of hot air.
He's only been on the job for a few months, and planning, ordering, constructing, landscaping, staffing, and training of new attractions takes a long time.
Hot air, indeed, but I don't think its comin' from Mr. Shapiro's direction...
They would not have relocated the headquaters to NYC if they planned on getting rid of that park.
I think they can actually sell some of those as most of CP seems to be flat as a pancake - they are in a much better position for a sell-out than MM :)
:)
:)
You guys talk about SFMM as if it would close tomorrow.
I think this park will be in operation for a long long long time from now, unless something really bad happens.
If we really do see SFMM go the way of the dodo, we will see the end of a truly unique and famous place. I've wanted to visit the Mountain for years, and I'm glad that I finally was able to. But to make this place into something worthy of greatness, it would take some serious investment.
The coasters/rides that I could see being relocated or not relocated are as follows:
--RR, BTR, Scream, Goliath, X, Deja Vu should all be moved/able to be moved
--Psyclone, Colossus, Gold Rusher, Ninja, Revolution will probably all be demolished
--Viper I'm not sure about, as Shockwave and Drachen Fire ended up being scrapped
--STE I'm not sure about, as it's a tame ride compared to some of the newer ones, and it draws a LOT of power, which in turn costs the park more money
--Tatsu I would like to see saved, but I'm not exactly sure how easily they could install this at another park
--Flashback I'm not sure about, but it would probably be scrapped as well
--the water rides would probably be scrapped, except maybe for the shoot-the-chutes
--the skycoaster and thrillshot would probably be moved, and possibly some of the flat rides as well
--I would hope they would save the sky tower and relocate it somewhere else, such as SFGAdv, who doesn't have an observation tower and should have the height variance for it
--some of HH's rides would probably be moved; others demolished (like the wave pool)
I like parks with terrain, and SFMM seems to make some decent use of it. It would be unfortunate to see the place go to use for something else. It's also a shame to see such nice terrain rides as Revolution, Gold Rusher, the flumes, Ninja, and Tatsu go to waste.

The fact that there has been very little outcry on this board about the possiblity of a mega coaster park closing just goes to show how much this park has alienated all facets of their targeted audience (could you imagine what would happen if CF anounced CP was closing.)
Excellent, excellent point!
Of course, some buildigs and coasters will have to be replaced or taken out of the park etc., but I still think that it has a lot to offer - and that there are very few parks that have a comparable lineup of high-profile custom made unique thrill rides.
Just think of it - MM has X, Riddler's Revenge, Tatsu, Goliath, Deja Vu, Viper... and they are pretty much all up and running pretty decently - plus the park seems to improve over the last time in general for sure.
Why don't people talk more about the problems of other parks - like - when did Busch Gardens for the last time acutally add something to their parks? When is Cedar Point finally getting a decend B&M floorless?
Why is everyone visualising how they close MM down? I don't think anything like that will happen any time soon.

If CP were operated and maintained like SFMM is, then we'd be picking on it as well.

Ummm, BGA got a Dive Machine last year and BGE is getting one next year so the answer to your question is 2005 and 2007 ;).

Sure you've got SheiKra, Montu, Kraken, Alpengeist, and Apollo's Chariot, for example, but overall their parks are such a contrast to what SFMM has become, if that makes sense.
X Factor
Magic Mountain's current state and target audience hardly comes close to falling in line with the definition of an Anheuser Busch park.

Many people here seem to forget that not only is SFMM in danger of closing but 5 other parks in the chain are as well.I see absolutely nobody whining about the prospects of losing SFDL,SFEG or any of the other parks they mentioned which may be shut down but boy ohh boy when SFMM is up for grabs that's all anyone here is concerned with.
