TOP TIME ALL FIRST DROPS
1. RAGING BULL @ SFGAM FRONT ROW WHAT A HEAD CHOPPER 2. DEMON WITH A LOOSE RESTRAINT ON THE BACK CAR.
3. X FRONT ROW LEFT SEAT WOO HOO
4. AMERICAN EAGLE FRONT ROW RED TRAIN

Why wouldn't lauched coasters count? Even if they didn't, you're still wrong. X is steeper than Oblivion, however, I dont know which coaster has the steepest drop.

Intelligence is a God given gift: Know how to use it.

MIke don't go into S:TE on these boards, you have diehard SFMM and CP fans here and in the past this get's brought up and there is a huge flame war for about 5 minutes, a MOD sees it, and the topic gets closed and people usually get their memborships taken away, But hey! I'll explain anyway :) WT is a coaster cuase, well, it has a coaster train and runs on coastertrack! Simply put! It also has a launch coasters use, and is gravity propeled. ( I think the defenition of roller coaster is that it's gravity proplled, that is why all these powered coasters in Europe aren't coasters to me, unless some point they use gravity) S:TE fits the same bill, except you can't see the track and the track you do see looks very odd, and the train is nothing like any coasters train around. OK, I hope I didn't start a flame war, but I really hope CP gets a reverse freefall next year ( they won't but a rocket version of it would be nice, takes less space and could do a 100 MPH launch in about 3 seconds or less) SO there is your explination, now everyone just read past this post and don't even think you saw it. This post does not exhist!

Don't forget the "X." I think that it's hill is 90*.

Actually the drop on X is 88.5 degrees. I'd need someone to confirm that though.

Also, people are forgetting coasters like Xcelerator, HyperSonic, and Dodonpa. Of course, they're all launch coasters.

There's that one coaster in the UK, Oblivion, that has a completely vertical drop. Who makes that coaster?

X's drop is not vertical if you look at profile picture of the drop you will see that the supports coming off of the "tower" of supports underneath the dip which attatch to the track get progressively longer as it gets closer to the ground.

Oblivion does not have a completely vertical drop it is 87.5° for all of you that are missinformed. :)

Yeah I think I remember X's drop is 88.5. Oblivion is somewhere around 87.5 I think. The only true vertical drops I can think of (shuttles included) are impulses, Deja Vu's, HyperSonic, Dondopa, and Xcelerator. I think there is another GIB being built somewhere overseas, I think the name was Twister?

-----------------
"Nothin wrong with a little airtime"

The other GIB is at WBMW Madrid (aka SF Europe). I have read it being called both Twister and Stunt Fall...

And Shaft of Terror at Gold Reef City in South Africa is the only full circuit non-launched coaster with a vertical drop.

(I am assuming that Shaft of Terror has a vertical drop based on all the stats that I could find.)

Ok, there's oblivion and G5 at 87.9, x is at 88.5 (or something like that, I know it's 88. something), hypersonic and dodonpa at 90, xcelerator at 90, gravity max tilts to 90, shaft of terror at 90, the 3 deja vues and stunt fall at 90, STE at 90, and I'm pretty sure all impulses are 90. I'm pretty sure I didn't leave anything out. If I think of any more I'll come back and edit this.

Don't scream at me, but what's a GIB and a B&M Dive Machine? Examples?

Edit: Fresh off of RCDB.com:
X: 88.5 degrees
Oblivion: 87 degrees

Unfortunately, they don't have the record for steepest drop...

What about Mr. Freeze? Isn't the spike like 200 feet? And the train goes up to about the 190 foot point.

-----------------
How much more floorless can they get?

I think freeze is vertical, and so is batman the chiller.

Don't forget G5, a B&M dive machine at Janfusun Fancyworld. RCDB said it had an 89* drop.

-----------------
I lost my hat on Poison Ivy. How pathetic.

I know that it is listed on rcdb as being 90 degrees, but I was looking through the latest addition of Amusement Today, and they have a great profile in there advertising S&S. I looked closely at the picture, and it does not look to be a vertical ascent or descent. There is a slight angle to the drop just there is one on X. Just thought I'd let you know of my observation.

G5 is almost an exact clone of Oblivion - they both have the same angle drop.

Chris, you have a couple really cute pugs!
I don't think Dodonpa has any vertical droppage. If it does it's a whole 2ft. Kinda like Hypersonic which has about 5ft of vertical droppage. The most vertical droppage I can think of would have to be Xcelerator or that Shaft of Terror thing.
