What coaster has the steepest drop in the world?

Just wondering. Isn't it the B&M dive machines? Cause aren't they like 89* or something like that.

Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Well, Hypersonic XLC and Dodonpa are both 90 degrees.
Shaft of Terror at Gold Reef City in South Africa has a 90 degree angle of descent, and there are probably a couple others with the same. http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail1481.htm

Top books:"Rusty Bedsprings" by I.P. Nitely,"Half-Mile to the Outhouse" by Willy Maykit and Betty Wont, and "Spots on the Wall" by Huflung Pu.

All of the impulses do all of Intamin's reverse free fall's have 90* drops also.

Xcellerator. most people dont think about the degree of descent on that coaster. just stand looking amazed at the top hat. well, so did I.

ladies and gentlemen, due to an increase in line jumping, people caught cutting in line will no longer be ejected from the park. u will be ejected from the ride

That would be cool to see a drop that goes a little beyond vertical. Like 95 or 100 degrees. That would be interesting.
Okay, many coasters have true (90 degree) vertical drops. Which one is vertical for the longest? Full curcuit because we know superman will win (i still don't think it's a true coaster). Hypersonic and dodonpa are vertical for a while going up but on the way down are vertical for a few pictures. Drop machines aren't true vertical machines but they're going at 89 degrees for a long time. Xcelerator is vertical for quite a while too (i'd guess 50-60 feet). my guess would be the new gravity max tilt coaster but i'm not sure.
Wow we now have coatser that go staright down, I remember whent hat dident exsist. Its amazing.
I can't think of the name of it right now but that one Tilt coaster that was built by Vekoma in Taiwan(sp?). I know for a fact that that coaster has a 90 degree drop. A pretty good sized one if I am not mistaken

We could say Impulses (with straight spikes) are more than 90, they do sway. They probably sway from 85-95 degrees when the train is on it.

I'd guess that GIBs are vertical longest, if not, I'm sure they are when they hold you for 8 seconds like SFGAm's was reported to have been doing for a short time last month. Then there is always the brake-down on the lift, there, where I've seen a train at vertical for about 3 minutes, that must be a record. ;)

What happened to that one proposed coaster that had a 95 degree drop? Does anyone remember the web site that was from. I think that one would take the cake IF it is feasible enough to be built.

"Tsunami" is the name of the proposed Gerstlauer coaster with the 95 degree drop. Would be cool to see this go up somewhere soon!
That would be so cool! A 95 degrees drop.

I remember that, it was a big topic a few months or a year ago. There was a picture from an add that was like a drawing or something. It was a compact coaster bui bysome small company. Did it have a vertical lift?

I don't think a 95* drop would be that cool besides the fact there would be no air time. The thing about it is you'd have to have some really tight upstop wheels.

It would be all air time. You said it yourself with the need of up-stop wheels. Some negative G's.

Don't forget the "X." I think that it's hill is 90*.

I know this isn't the subject of the thread, but could somesone explain why Superman: The Escape is not a coaster but Wicked Twister is?
Mike, you've just opened a whole new can of worms. Also, about the over 90 degree drop, what about a flying coaster, just go up the lift hill and dive down into the flying position!
