This is what Six Flags Reported about SFA in their 2001 annual report that they fild with the SEC (Security and Exchange Commission for those who don't know).
"SIX FLAGS AMERICA Six Flags America, a combination theme and water park located in Largo, Maryland (approximately 15 miles east of Washington, D.C. and 30 miles southwest of Baltimore, Maryland) is the 42nd largest theme park in North America. The park's primary market includes Maryland, northern Virginia, Washington, D.C. and parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. This market provides the park with a permanent resident population base of approximately 6.7 million people within 50 miles and 11.4 million people within 100 miles. Based on a 2001 survey of television households within designated market areas ("DMAs") published by A.C. Nielsen Media Research, the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore markets are the number 8 and number 24 DMAs in the United States, respectively.(4) We own a site of 515 acres, with 131 acres currently used for park operations. The remaining 384 acres, which are zoned for entertainment and recreational uses, provide us with ample expansion opportunity, as well as the potential to develop complementary operations. Six Flags America's principal competitors are King's Dominion Park, located in Doswell, Virginia (near Richmond); Hershey Park, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania; and Busch Gardens, located in Williamsburg, Virginia. These parks are located approximately 120, 125 and 175 miles, respectively, from Six Flags America."

While on top of S:RoS i looked around and i was hardpressed to find an area where they could build any new coasters.
every bit of those trees all the way to the big high electicity towers to the west is theirs, they have enough additional space to put a copy of CEDAR POINT in there
....but what they really could use is a clone of Ga. Scorcher....;)...and from what little I do know about SFEG, they should be more concerned about the "competition".....
There are plenty of possibilities without expanding beyond the current park structure. Many of these rides are already approved in the masterplan, and all it takes is an alteration to put in something else (see substitution of Batwing for 140ft. standup in 2001).

If coasters are your life, than maybe you need to re-examine your life.

Whoa! I knew SFGAdv had a lot of land, but 2220 Acres?
Also, this is off topic, but can someone describe the whole SFoT and SFoG deal? I read it, but it can be confusing...
also doesn anyone have the link to the site that showed what they are planning to build. There was a site but I forgot the address, also what are they building the place of sky escaper?
I think that either a stand-up or impluse would be right up SFA's alley. A stand-up would help roung SFA, and an Impulse is an inexpensive, yet awesome ride.
hey I am happy with either one what ever they bring, as long as they keep there title as being the six flags park with the most D.C. comic themed rides
While at SFA yesterday I noticed that the land clearing between S:ROS and Batwing has grown just a little bit and it looks like all the pipes that were there last year have finally been put into place as well as S:ROS's service road being paved with gravel as opposed to dirt so I strongly believe they can fit maybe a small floorless or stand up back there.
I'm surprised they have 384 acres of land left to develop, that's a lot of room which means endless possibilities for the park in terms of coasters and other rides in the near future and with Hershey,PKD and BGW as thier main competition they will most likely be adding major rides to the park in order to stay above that competition,it all depends on what thier competitors plan on building for 2003.
I'm not surprised to hear though that they don't compete with SF Great adventure, after all why would SF want to compete against it's own park.
All in all SFA has the potential to become a great park in the future if only the corporates at SF would stop playing favorites in my opinion and finally give SFA some new rides next year because with PKD at least adding thier new ride the competition is going to be intense.
For a basic frame of reference, Superman: ROS, currently at the back end of the park, is approximately at the property's center.
I am personally hoping for a B&M floorless between Superman and Mind Eraser, and a path to elimate those dead ends. Of course, a CCI woodie through the woods near Mind Eraser would be awesome too (we do not have one on the east coast, and as such, I have never ridden a CCI).
they arent allowed to build to the side of Superman, right there next to the turn aroudn into the lift hill. I was told this by one of the like matenience people, or so. he said that cause of housing the noise levels would be too high, JJ is the loudest ride in the park, and you can hear that ride from far away.
