Walt Disney World reinstating indoor mask requirement

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Starting Friday, all Walt Disney World guests 2 and up will be required to wear masks while indoors and on Disney transportation including buses, the monorail, and the Disney Skyliner, regardless of vaccination status. The update in Disney's policy came after Orange County mayor Jerry Demings urged residents and visitors to wear masks when in an indoor space with others whether they are vaccinated or unvaccinated.

I'm just happy the company announced that all salaried and non-union employees are required to be vaccinated for employment. About time.

I think we will see a lot of companies doing this. They will probably get a better health insurance rate if they do do. Also businesses that don’t mandate it are going to find themselves in lawsuits. The Republicans didn’t succeed at protecting their precious businesses from being sued if they ignore COVID precautions

What is the vibe for the union CMs? Do you think it'll extend to them as well in the coming days?

They are all for it. I know the president of IATSE and this was something he wanted to push for back when the vaccination first became available. I imagine the company will be meeting with the unions within a week or so to discuss this with them.

Yeah, my friends in IATSE circles up north were pushing for that. I'm wondering more about the Service Trades Council.

Aside from that one STUPID comment, I applaud everyone for being mature about this new mandate. This same story on WDWNT unleashed a torrent of horrible posts with most people vowing to "never set foot in a Dizney park again."
So, thanks for being the voice of reason in an otherwise cesspool of idiots.
As an Orlando native since 1999, I have seen everything. Although I have been fully vaxxed since April, I will continue to wear my mask because the governor (I didn't vote for him) is only concerned with getting re-elected and does not care how many people die in the process.

It’s not a stupid comment…..I wore a mask for 14 months and I got vaccinated…..for NOTHING. I’m done; over it. If I go somewhere where the law requires me to wear a mask, I will as I am a law abiding citizen. But beyond that, no more mask for me, nor will I be patronizing businesses where a mask is required. That’s my choice….it’s called FREEDOM!

It wasn't for nothing. Do you even understand how any of this works? You obviously don't know how freedom works.

At least he has the balls to be stupid in a public forum. I applaud that.

It seems like the summary of your comment was, “I will do what the law requires me to do and if it gives me a choice, I will make that choice based on my own personal values.” So...congratulations on loving freedom as much as anyone else not in jail, I guess.

It’s these people screaming FREEDOM that keep the virus going. Their FREEDOM is more important than the health of others it seems

There will NEVER be freedom as long as it is spreading.

Just imagine if social media, Fox News, the Republican Party in its current state was around in the days of polio. It would still be rampant.

I would also like to point out that "freedom" is not an actual argument. It basically amounts to "I can do what I want without rational thought or awareness of impact on people around" which can be used to justify essentially anything. "I poop on my neighbor's lawn because FREEDOM!" "I pour toxic waste in the river because FREEDOM!" "I storm the capital because FREEDOM!" Obviously it's your choice to do any of those things, but that doesn't in any way negate the responsibility of not doing those things because they're bad things to do, not to mention the legal and ethical consequences of doing such things.

You all are good little sheep…..

Says the law abiding citizen.

Does that mean he won?

When actual reasoned discussion fails, name calling definitely convinces people.

This pandemic has totally destroyed my hope that America can be a strong nation that comes together when times get tough, like in the past. Our common enemy could have been a virus, and we could have fought it and won when it was in its early stages. We could have shown the world how great and "United" our country is supposed to be. But instead, half of the country lets conspiracy theories and obvious lies overtake their will to help humanity survive. It's as if they want our species to struggle and fall. As I have been saying for the last year and a half, we are doomed.

Many people are told that the devil, the Illuminati, the "deep state," or whatever, is working in the shadows and they will be responsible for some big event that will take away our freedoms or something. They allow imaginative, popular insane people to convince them of fantasies.

Then the next global pandemic came along, certain people get scared, and they think they have to fight for their freedom or else whatever prediction or prophecy story they have been warned about their entire lives will happen. It is just something to enslave the minds of people. To keep as many people on edge as possible, there are many different fantasies to appeal to different kinds of people.

I don't blame them for being nuts. It's not their fault. But this time lives are at stake.

Just get the damn vaccine already, so that this pandemic can be over more quickly.

I'm genuinely curious, why do you feel wearing a mask for much of the pandemic and getting vaccinated was for nothing? Is it because we're still having the same conversations all these months later and are now increasingly being asked to mask up again? Is it because it feels like this pandemic is never ending?

If so, I'm sorry to tell you that much of the reason you feel that way is precisely because of your newfound attitude about your "freedom." Far too many people felt their "freedom" was more important than coming together and doing something to help each other out or doing something for the greater good. You know, something our country used to do throughout its history. As long as folks like you have this attitude, the pandemic and these mitigation efforts are going to continue to stick around and not just be an annoyance to everyone, but hospitalizing and killing people who didn't have to. Everyone likes to talk about how freedom isn't free and that it requires sacrifices. Well guess what? This is precisely one of those situations.
