Volcano:TBC... The myths the legends

You mean apples to painful and boring, Tim ;)

The haunted river wasn't a log flume. The boats were kind of like Diamond Falls.

I stayed off volcano this season after all the head banging I got on it last year,I think I'll side with Moosh & Rob in saying that Avalanche is a far smoother ride than volcano these days...& it's a good decade older than volcano to boot.

Now RY backwards can definitely use some work(as can that giant piece of firewood sitting nearby) but the forward side was running smooth as glass for the most part when I hit it back in july.

A good solution here would be to turn RY backwards forwards again & retrack firewood:the ride....umm Hurler & maybe throw some GCI M-flyers on it in the process as well, then again that'd be out of the question as GCI didn't build the ride & thus won't allow their trains to be bought for use on it.

What pains me is having ridden both Hurlers, and then experiencing Thunder Run, and seeing what the Hurler Twins could be. PCar's was running good the last 2 years, but in previous years, it was worse than PKD's.
i must be a massochist...i swear, ive never gotten a bad headbanging on Volcano, lol....and ive ridden it every year several times since it opened. also....its no wonder Avalanche is smoother....theres no track that the train is gripping (just the trough) and there's no headrest of any kind....just thought id point that out;)

still trying to think of a good signature...

VTBC is one of my fave coasters around anywhere, just because its unique....but ive got a question about the launch. I've read that the first launch takes u from 0 to 55mph, then around the turn, and the second launch zips u to 70mph and up out of the mountain. My question is, does anybody know how quick the first initial acceleration from 0 to 55mph is? It's a pretty powerful launch.

I never said I hated Volacano. I said it boring [the wide sweeping turns did nothing for me] and headbangy [although only in the slow zero-g roll inversions]. The rest of it was smooth.

Well I *half* agree with you Moosh. I thought that everting after the blast out the volcano was boring, but not the least bit head-bangy. Still, overall V:TBC gets a below-average rating from me. I'd rather ride avalanche!

Well, that's an unfair comparison...those bobsled coasters are teh roXors!1! Granted, I need to check out that *other* Intamin 'sled since La Vibora *snaked* its way into my heart...;)

I really LIKED V:TBC though...sure, the inversions were repetitive and boring, and the theming wasn't up to MY *exacting standards*, but I loved the launches, esp. the vertical shot out of the Volcano...the SHAME of the ride is the fact that there's never any good SPEED during the "ride portion" until that last severe swooping drop...and then there's the brakes! Kinda reminiscent of PKI's mine ride, where the *build-up* takes you right into the station....

But, all that being said, if you've never seen them "clear the gas" from the Volcano at the end of the night, wait and check it out some night.....spectacular display! :)

Now I've ridden V:TBC nearly every time I've been at the park since my first ride in 99 & it was never a headbanger until last year(skipped it this year in favor of SD:HM & Avalanche) & those intamin OTSR's are made of a rather unforgiving material.

At least the SLC's have some cushioning effect on their OTSR's so it does have a little give to it but the intamin's sure don't & believe me I've got more than enough experience riding the SLC's to notice the difference.

Dare I say it that even shockwave's restraints are more forgiving than V:TBC? & even then the only "bad" part is the transition into the helix coming off the hill following the loop, now if only SW's layout were more impressive & the paint job less ugly I'd actually be willing to ride it more frequently....well that & the horribly slow load times the ride generates on average.

Guys, guys...as I said before the only moments where I got whacked by the OSTR was in the inversions. This was not on just one ride, it was on every single ride I took during ERT. Otherwise its smooth and I didn't hate it [nor did I love it].

Again, to make clear my opinion of the ride [as if it really matters or effects anyone else's opinion]:

1. Headbangy in the inversions
2. Smooth everywhere else
3. Nice launches
4. Drop into breaks kinda disappointing
OVERALL: fun ride, could have been more.

You didn't like Volcano?! Why?? How could you not like such an inverted Intamin masterpiece? You've gone mad Mamoosh and you're absolutely wrong I tell you! Give me your reasons!!!11ha

Man Moosh I can't believe how much you hate Volcano and you have to keep repeating yourself over and over again how much you hate it. I mean... sheesh quit repeating yourself on how much you hate the ride we all get the point ;)

In all seriousness though, I have never heard of Volcano having a different layout. I find the ride interesting and I love how the train doesn't come to a complete stop before the launch... very unique. The ride itself is pretty mediocre to me, I don't like the slow zero-g rolls (if they really produce zero-g's) but its not something that I'm going to pass on the next time I'm at PKD.

Rob, I heard you hit puberty, so when are you going to put up a new profile pic? You were like 12 in the one up there now. ;)

...plus he looks gay in that pic ;)

mOOSH [relax, people...he knows I'm kidding!]

Since that's such a stretch from seeing him in person humping my leg... And that's no joke!

+Danny, likes it ;)

As soon as my voice stops cracking and the length of my arms has caught up to the rest of my body I'll post a new pic. As for now I'm too busy discovering that there are *girls* out there!

Since the offseason is in full swing I need to work on my *girl* skills. It seems that anonymously posting on the Internets that I saw this hot girl while I was sitting behind her on Millennium Force, Gemini, Raptor, The Beast, and Top Gun all in one weekend didn't really work out for me. Unless getting a tattoo of a red hand print on the face is the "in" thing.

What are girls? Is her piece better than yours? ;)
