Video of SFoG Goliath Testing

Not sure what physics class you ever passed, but more weight = more momentum = roller coaster train goes faster. It runs slower when empty, not the other way around. They aren't "trying to make it valley".

Now back to everyone agreeing Nitro is the greatest coaster ever built.

I agree!

Nitro is better than butter! ;)

Did you ever, or do you still work at SFGAm? You look vaguely familiar from the park - OR - am I crazy as hell? :)

-JC too, look at that!-

Nitro is a pretty good coaster, but it would be even better if it had some airtime. That is the problem with the over engineered Beemers...they are designed to go over their apexi (is that the plural of apex?) at the slowest possible speed. A lot of the best coaster moments are half accidents, but if B&M accidently puts too much fun in some element, they will fix it with a trim. They can't have anyone waking up...but I guess that is to be expected from the company that has openly disrespected wooden coasters and has bragged about their lack of laterals. Okay, so maybe I overstated it just a tad, but even the most diehard B&M fan knows better than to expect a Superman: Ride of Steel IV. I don't know if you should call it decaf, nonalcholic, or neutered, but B&M sure knows how to take the edge off, and I'm not convinced that is such a good thing.
Yep I worked there from 1997 (foods that year) until 2001 (rides dept from 1998 til 2001).

Where did you work?

Oh, I operated Drop in 98, Bull/Wolf/Train in 99, Bull in 00, and Demon in 01.

See, Bull is a B&M hyper, like Goliath. This has come full circle now! :)

Joe, still can't wait for March 30.

Just remember the video of SD2K, and how slow it looked..... it was going 95mph.

I think this is going to be just fine.

The Flying Turns makes all the right people wet - Gonch

LOL.........I was there and saw it testing in person before the park opened Saturday March 18, and it was actually running slow, so the video looked spot on to me. I was kinda laughing because a lot of the people that were watching it make it's 2 runs were saying (That looks awesome) While others were saying (I thought it would be faster and Scream Machine looks faster) Sadly I must agree, Scream Machine rocked and looked way faster going over the bunnies.

I just thought to myself - Well it's a Beemer so I wasn't shocked at all, but it did seem to have a good amount of speed before that dip at the end. The helix should be rather interesting none the less.

(walks through room)

Nitro the best? That's Nuckin' Futs!

(audience roars with approval)

...

Phoning them in at this point. ;)
(plus, I made a Dickie Roberts reference :) )

Seriously though, this will be every bit as successful as Nitro.

I have no doubt about this either. The GP will eat it up.

Back to Nitro, its sad that there is more airtime on Skull Mountain than Nitro, something it was designed to do.

I thought it looked faster than the pov animation
With SFGam being my homepark for quite sometime, I've seen Raging Bull run quite a few times. I actually thought in the first video with the dummies that Goliath looked like it was running pretty quick for a B&M. Especially into that downward helix.

This ride looks good, but someday I would love to see Arrow do another hyper, or even Premier. A company who knows how to build forceful rides!

I never worked at SFGAm - but obviously, I go there too much, if I can point out someone who worked there! Hahah. Nice to see you again, I guess :) What are you doing these days? And why'd you stop workin at the park, if you don't mind me askin?

-Jeff-

After only seeing the runs with empty trains, I actually thought it looked somewhat fast in this video with the dummies. It sure makes it over the hills a lot easier.

The supports seem like they have to be filled with sand. Can anyone confirm that?

Bad news 40below, Arrow was bought out by S&S so you won't be seeing another Arrow hyper.

Did anybody else notice something strange with the lights in the video?

It's fun to watch it test with two trains - 1 empty and 1 full. One struggles through the course, the other has pretty darn good pacing for a B&M hyper. Take your guess ;)

Like any coaster, weight of passengers plays a huge roll. It will be fine, I'm glad this video was posted, perhaps people will now be suprised to see it run in person.

For the people complaining about the speed: They're still testing out what kinds of wheels they want to use on the ride. You should've seen it running with the other type of wheels last week. I've never seen a coaster tear through its track as fast as it did. Maybe they'll find the right combination. However, even on the current wheels running on it in that video, the heads of the dummies get bucked forward from the airtime over every one of those hills. It's downright "tasty" to watch ;).

"On the moon nerds get their pants pulled down and spanked with moonrocks."

No complaints, just observations from what I see. That's interesting to hear that they are experimenting with wheels....???... I've never heard of that before. But saturday when I was in Atlanta, I saw it run with the dummies and empty and it was really sluggish empty and I guess you could say there was an increase in speed, but I didn't think it was dramatic like I've been hearing. I mean my cousin was like "Man you got to see our new coaster, it's flys throught the course with the white things) so I was excited to see it but in reality the talk was exaggerated. It's still a cool looking coaster and will be a hit for the locals for a long time.

I saw the bucking forward too, but I would assume that was because the dummies don't have arms to hold them in place, not just because of negative forces.

That coaster (Goliath) did not look slow to me at all.

For a coaster testing for the first time, it looks about normal. Some coasters don't even make it around the circuit the first time.

Ditto to what DW said.
Keep in mind, Goliath's airtime will probably be best on the hills that occur right after the video stops. The smaller hills right after the video stops look like the best airtime to me. 150+ ft hills do not generally produce great airtime. Just like on Magnum, the airtime is on the run of small hills leading back to the station. The ride can not break in until it has run for a little while.
