UPDATED: Hersheypark announces unnamed Intamin rocket coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Hersheypark today announced the 2004 addition of an Intamin hydraulic launch coaster. The ride will send riders from 0 to 72 mph in about two seconds. The ride will stand 150 feet tall and feature a 180-foot drop. It will also have a 135-foot "cobra loop" and barrel rolls. It has not yet been named, but the public can vote to choose a name.

Go to the official Hersheypark site or read the press release.

Anywho, looks like a sick coaster, especially with the inversions and landscaping that it'll have. Sure will have to get out there sometime next year... maybe as a grad present along with CP and PKI.

The animation makes it look like one very extreme coaster by Hershey's standards. My vote goes with "Storm Runner", since there are so many coasters that start with "Steel" this, that, or an other. Renegade just sounds so bland.

If you have a problem with clones, the solution is real simple—Stop traveling.
Too bad it will be broken half the time! I sure hope Hershey has better luck with it than CP is having.

Will be a perfect addition to Hersheypark! I also voted for Storm Runner.

Another excuse to get back out there next year. ;-)

Gimme speed, height, airtime and plenty of LAUNCH!!!

The OTSR's were pretty much a given on this ride. Its still going to be a great ride. I voted for "Renegade" since there are too many rides with "Steel" in them, and "Storm Runner" just didn't sound right.

It looks awsome! In NL (over @ coastersims), I posted a Rocket I had made, featuring a top hat just like that. I'm incredibly happy to see that type of tophat used, as it looks to be really cool.

I thought "Steel Renegade" would have been good.

Why is it another RED Rocket Coaster!?!?!?!?
The "cobra loop" is just an Immelman.

I have yet to see a sig. that actually follows the rule: tell something about yourself. In fact, this one doesn't even do that.

Since no one has said it yet, I will: SWEET!

Of the three I-rockets thus far this one interests me the most and really shows the potential for the genre. My only complaint, and it's very small one, is the color scheme. Something a bit more "western" looking [brown & burgundy, perhaps?] would have been my choice, but I'm just being pedantic.

Way to go, Hershey! I bet CF and Dorney park just let out a huge "D'oh!" today ;)

A random Mooshter's Dawntionary entry: Karmageddon [n.] it's, like, when everyone is sending really bad vibes and then, like, the earth explodes...a serious bummer.

Has anyone ridden Collosus because wouldn't that probably tell us if the ride would be comfortable or not also if you ahve ridden Collosus do you get airtime on that bunny hop before the cobra roll. As long as its not a headbanger I have no problem with the OTSR because even if they would have put lapbars on they would have stapled you in so badly you couldn't get airtime anyway.

How come when I go to the site, there is nothing about the coaster? It is still saying Secret's out at high noon!

Past, Present, and Future? Holiday World holds the past and the present, Cedar Point holds the future!

Are all the bugs worked out yet on the rocket coaster's, I read an article that quoted Dick Kinzel saying "This is the most frustrating ride I have ever been through,"(talking about TTD) read the rest in article below.

Wow, if he said that I could only imagine what CP and Intamin's relationship will be like from this point on.
I made a NL coaster of it on CB games.

There are 3 types of people in this world, people who can count, and people who can't.

Finally, maybe one of the most perfect coasters to come. (In my opinion, ride elements and all)

I agree with Moosh... definetly could have done a better job with color scheme. Bright red does not scream Western to me, unless you wanna say its blood covered, but that would be more halloween-ish.

Something tells me that this rocket coaster will NOT have the same kind of downtime and problems of TTD. Why? Because the launch is going only to 70 and a height of about 150'. Most of TTD's problems stemmed from the incredibly high speeds and the height. Record breaking rides pose record breaking problems.

My guess is that it will have an exact copy of Xcelerator's launch mechanism, just set at a lower speed. Xcelerator is now very reliable and I'm sure Heshery's will be the same. Will Heshey's have ZERO problems and ZERO downtime? No, of course not, but my guess is far less than TTD.
