TTD testing yet?...Too quiet!

Back on topic, I'm pretty sure there was a test because about a week and a half ago, I checked out the webcams and there was a train at the "finish line" ... only way I could think of for the blue train to get over there would have been a test. So is it testing? Yes. Will you catch it mid-test on the webcam? Most likely not.

PittDesigner - like Xcelerator there are wheels that advance the trains that can be reversed, so it is entirely possible for a train to be rolled backwards to the finish line. That is all they've been doing, rolling trains back and forth.

Then again, if you think, while the park opens the fourth, it then shuts down until that friday, so if it dosn't oepn on opening day, they wont miss days if they have to open it a few days late...as long as they get it up by friday. But having a coaster not open on opening day is completley uncharacteristic of Cedar Point.
I'm sure they will be doing whatever they have to do to have it opened even if it means having people working 24 hours a day testing 24 hours a day. So everyone understands what i'm saying. I'm not saying thats what they are doing or gonna do. Just saying that they will do whatever have to do to have it open around May 1st.

The obvious question is if you haven't seen it running during the day, maybe they are running it at night!

Cedar Point will soon announce that they are tearing TTD down and sending it to SFWOA. The board of directors decided that TTD was a waste of money and though that they would send the crappy caoster to a crappy park.
Dude...why would cp sell it...oh ya..they wouldnt! anyways..i am pretty sure they are testing cuz i talked to someone 2 weeks ago and they said that they were going to test in one week...so that means that testing HAS begun!!

No it doesn't. So according to your statement if someone said that they started testing 30 years ago does the mean they have. I think not. Until someone can get a picture of it testing or Monty himself says that they have NO ONE is gonna believe you.

Thats fine with me...I dont care if they don't believe me!

Oh wait, I guess Cedar Point will start testing because you said so.

Safety is NOT an option. If they rush testing to get Top Thrill Dragster open sooner, they are not doing their jobs properly. The whole point of testing including the tesing is to ensure than the ride not only operates properly but also that it is so redundantly safe that their isn't a half a doubt in anyones mind.

One of the parts of being involved with any ride whether desgning, engineering, manufacturing, building, testing, or operating is to worrie about safety. Thinking of everything that can go wrong is not only very difficult, it's important.

The difference a engineer and say a burger king burger flipper is that nobody cares about a burned burger, you just throw it away. When engineers makes mistakes, it can cost thousands, millions, and in one case with nasa billions of dollars. Sometimes, mistakes can even cost lives, such as in roller coasters case.

They really want to get the ride open on time but they sure as hell won't open a ride that they aren't absolutly sure that is safe.

There is a common saying that really hold true in this case. 'Hope for the best but prepare for the worst.'

Edit... listed 'testing twice'...

Two things to consider:

"Testing" includes everything. Every single switch on every single line of cable needs to be tested. Every single motor or computer component is tested. Testing regular train circuits comes last. So it's entirely possible that by the time May 4th rolls around, they will have had that full month of testing.

Second, Cedar Point has never missed an opening day before, and the first Top Thrill Dragster construction was started more than 1 year ago. Do you really think they would start that far in advance, only to open the ride late? And besides, if Monty Jasper says it will open on time, well I'll be damned if listen to you boys watching the webcam. He's actually at the park!

As of right now, I give them a 90% chance of having Top Thrill Dragster operational on opening day.

1. The computer appears to be fully capable of moving the trains from any point using friction wheels.

2. According to Monty Jasper, they've been testing for over a month now.

3. The 3 Phase testing done with the trains takes a short period of time.

The 3 phase testing starts with a pull through. In this case, a partial pull through. [Whatever patial means] The second phase is the testing with water dummies. I think the reason for this testing is breaking in the ride and proving that all the systems work together. The third phase tests the G forces imposed onto the riders by the ride. I have no doubts that TTD will pass through this quickly.

After the actually testing, TTD will be fine tuned. I think what was learned from Xcelerator will help with TTD. Sandor himself said 'The challenges of this project were very substantial.' The biggest part of testing of this ride is getting the electronics working properly. I think they are either done with it, or very close to.

The question 'will TTD be open on May 4th' is perplexing. If they don't run into any snags, then the answer will be a yes. If they run into severe snages, it would be a no. Any where between is difficult to predict. The outcome of this is like playing the lotto. Saying 'Cedar Point has never missed a deadline' is like saying 'Cedar Point won't be building a roller coaster in 2003 because they already built one in 2002.'

I still stand by the fact that they are highly likely to open TTD on May 4th, but I know that isn't a guarantee.

Hmm, they could use the grandstands as part of the queue line.
not really^

Hey ZeroG CP HAS missed its opening day mark, Gemini and Avalanche Run did not open on time, I think they both opened in June!

Just because you haven't seen it on the cameras doesn;t mean its not taking place!

Well, considering they have officially made press day May 1st, I'd say it will be running (perhaps sporadically) on opening day. I don't think they'd invite all us media folk out to tell us "it isn't ready...oh, and here's lunch"

That link doesn't work because they don't allow outside linking.

Well that may be true Dan, but considering the high caliber rides they've installed since then, it's still an amazing record, and I don't think they would care to loose it now.
