Thats an interesting calculation. The way I was thinking was that at 4 ft. away from being at rest. It would be going the speed that it goes if it just fell 4 ft. But your calculation seems right too. Thats the confusing part. Which ever one is right I'm sure it's still gonna be one hell of a launch which ever speed it'll go.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The reason they both seem right is that they both ARE right... it takes an object 1/2 second to drop 4 feet... it accelerates from 0 to 16 feet/sec... average of 8 feet/sec for 1/2 sec = 4 feet... then it falls an additional 12 feet in the next 1/2 second (accelerates from 16 to 32 feet/sec ... average of 24 feet/sec for 1/2 sec = 12 feet).

Damn, all I gotta say you guys are pretty smart. I have no clue what you guys are talking about with these calculations. I always hated math. Well, I guess its a good thing I learned how to work some turntables! All you gotta know is how to count to eight. I live in San Diego and have been on Xcelerator quite a few times. The track in the pics I've seen looks exactly like Xcelerator's. So hopefully it will be a bigger and badder version. Life is good for the coaster enthusiast!

OK now here's a shameless plug: I just got a gig DJing on Friday and Saturday nights at Club Animale on Revolucion in Tijuana, Mexico.(2 minutes past the boarder). This club is off the hook! Hip-hop all night long. The drinking age in Mexico is 18 so alot of people from San Diego and LA go down there to party. So if anyone is ever in the Southern Cali area come and party like an Animale!!

DJVICDOGG, you can't tell me that with all that "Chronic" you don't lose count once in awhile.....thought so....;)

just kiddin' with ya, guy....

Lmfao rollergator!!
See, what I do is just balance it out with a few Corona's and everything is OK. The sign of a good DJ is one who can tear up the tables with a buzz goin' on...and I ain't talking about a coasterbuzz either!

I also live to entertain....good to know you appreciate multiple forms of insanity.....you comin' out for my X party....? Losing my X-virginity Mid-Sept.....final dates coming SOON....

Warning: the security folks at SFMM will confiscate your brownies....;)

Hell yeah, let me know. I got coupons for $25 tix. Bring an extra pair of underwear, because that first drop is insane!

Believe me, I've had more than brownies confiscated...they'll kick you out too, but that was nothing changing my shirt and shaving off my moustache and goatee didn't remedy. Good thing I keep an "overnight kit" in the trunk!

Wow, when in September is this? That sounds like an "event." Too bad there's no way in hell I can make it.

You're gonna love X, gator.

The new coaster is being constructed for the 2003 season!!! This is from the latest news from CedarPoint.com:

"...Cedar Point will also build a major new thrill ride for next summer. Parts have already begun to arrive and construction is scheduled to begin after Labor Day. A formal announcement with additional details about the project will be made at a later date."

This is great for me, which was one of the ones thinking of a 2 year construction for the 2004 season!

I always doubted the 2004 possibility, it just didn't seem right. Anyways, "a later date" could mean anytime. It could be next week, it could be the middle of October, and it could even be next year.

yeah, but it will be announced before the end of the season, hence the signs "Cedar Point Is Building For The Future, Look For More News Later This Season!"

Not necessarily. That was put up months ago. Word has it that the annoucement was put off by someone in charge.

If it is going to be a rocket coaster they are fairly short so I doubt it would take til 2004 for it to be completed.

SFgadvMan, I don't know how you can make that assumption, there is only one rocket coaster out there, this one could be 5 miles long, although it won't, but you can't assume its going to be short....

Thanks RCTycoon, I was just about to say the same thing. You can't make generalities based on just one thing. It doesn't work that way.

That would be like saying that just because one chubby white boy (me) is a computer nerd, all chubby white boys are computer nerds. This, we know is not true, since many chubby white boys play chess.

Basing a classification of a type of coaster on just one example is just as ludricrous as calling all chubby white guys computer nerds.

It must be a convention then...:) But I also am a good chess player so...what now? :)

I think the whole idea behind the rocket coaster is that it is meant to be a fast, tall, extreme, but short ride. If you build a ride so tall, no matter how long the track is, the ride time will be small because of the extreme speed. These rides are also limited in what they can do because long sweeping turns and large pullouts are needed.

This is not to say that there won't be any long rocket coasters, but if there are, I doubt they will number near the amount of short ones.
